Yep, But It's more work for the most translator this way.
I would prefer them like this but I think most translators rather want them with the speech bubbles.

it surely does, but it's good only for those translators who'll work with Korean, or Chinese or Japanese, where speech bubbles are different.

Blanked comics are usually meant to be used for translations, but you can also use it for parody. See the music and "Ye old English" and the four letter words or less translation for more details.

There's also other fan edits floating around the forums. So, yeah, you can make jokes.
