German Translation - Legacy (Old Translation Thread)

Well i have seen topics about translations of the comic in other languages already,
so i wanted to ask if i could make an "offical" german translation of the comic.

I was kinda playing with this idea during school anyways...

You can do it if you want. I intended to do it once, but gave up on it, was too bored to do it. But I'd love to see one by you anyway :D.

i seem to not have a fitting font for the translation, the ones i checked looked nothing like the original one + also looked crappy.

can someone tell me whice the font was, whice was used for the comic?

we use the 'webletterer' font.

Personnaly, I use Webletterer and Komika Hand (because Webleterrer is uncompete).

Rick himself uses webletterer in the comics, so I suggest using that for the best effect.

And Komika Hand, because Webletterer hasn't the umlaut.

There's no lack of German members on the board already, so I'm sure a German translation would be hugely useful for those who speak it natively. Thus, I wish you luck! :B

Hm, considering the dearth of activity here and the fact that it's my sole foreign language...

Hope my German isn't too bad.

Second panel: "Gesichtern"? That means "faces", not "hats", right? Shouldn't it be "Hüten"? And one more thing, but I'm more unsure about this: Shouldn't Grape in the third panel say "Ein abenteuer" instead of just "abenteuer"?

Other than that, this is amazing :). Please do more.

hm... ok, thought i should register here and post some corrections. First of all it is a good translation though it is a bit rough compared to native german speakers. My suggestions would be the following

Panel 1:
Peanut: Graaape, die Batterien des Wii-Controllers sind leer, Mama und Papa sind nicht da und mir ist langweilig.
Grape: Ich kenne ein tolles Spiel für dich, man nennt es: lass die Katze einmal ausschlafen

i wouldn't translate it to 'nunchuck', most people over here call it 'wii-controller'. 'for once' sound's better as 'einmal' (per once) as Peanut always disturbs Grape in her sleep.

Panel 2:
Peanut: Biiiiitte Grape!
Grape: Na gut, hör auf zu betteln. Mach dich für ein tolles Abenteuer bereit.
Peanut: Ich hole die Papiertüten mit den lustigen Hüten darauf.

Once again i translated not word by word but in the meaning - Set Course for high Adventure for example (nobody here calls it 'Setz Kurs auf großes Abenteuer) ;)

Panel 3:
Peanut: Ich bin der Wetterzauberer, Herrscher dieses Landes

"Hail to the Rain-ing King" That is a problem to translate as it is playing with words which mostly cannot be translated into a foreign language. When you translate it back into english it is 'I am stormed to say hello to the rainingly king' which simply destroys the joke. Hm... it is hard to translate... Maybe something like 'Stürmische Grüße, oh König der Regenmacher' (Stormy Greetings, oh king of the rainmakers). But then it looses a little bit from the context. As i said, it is a joke which not easy to translate.

(edit: fixed typos)

I just noticed that Liam's translation didn't make sense, since the 'nunchuck' part of the controller doesn't use batteries!

I agree SONGOD.

I'm pretty good in German, so I could try to translate a few pages.

@SONGGOD: well, honestly i think most people read the webcomics in english (i do most of the time - i like the english version of Sabrina Online better than the translated german one).

@ctcmjh: I think the first try posted here was made by an native english speaker doing the german translation. Having seen all the subtle jokes in the comic (I read it from the begining to the present during the easter weekend) i think it is a hard task for someone not speaking german natively to translate all that.

@Ebly: are there any special requirements to do the translations to german? (Besides speaking it *G*)

Nope. If you can't blank the panels, there are the blanked comics in another topic in this forum. If you can't put the words in for some reason, I'm positive someone else will do it! *giggles*

Ok, i will start with the first two panels (b&w versions only, but as i placed the text on another layer, it is no problem to replace the underlaying image).

Edit: removed the b&w versions, see down below

Yeah, I was about to say "You need umlauts in *insert words here*, because I didn't see them. But my eyesight is poor.

We can all learn something by reading comics in other languages (prepares us for the war to end all wars by helping us quote said comics to the enemy and they would only wonder what does that have to do with anything like to those who read this what war you talk of and why is your comment so long) the conclusion is the number "H"

Well, it is hard sometimes, to translate the puns. Until now i could stay as close as possible (and 2 online translations pages, one german word book and my english translation book as well as wiktionary helps *grin*)
