Problems with my translations

Hey, guys. I don't know why, but every time when I edit the older comics(the Cat Tail and Housepets Christmas never had this), show this:

this never happened before and the text turn a bad quality. My suspects is the document is blocked. because I can't criate a new layer in this document. Someone knows what's going on? And how fix this?

I'm not sure- I don't use whatever version of Photoshop that you do- but it looks like there's a mask on the image for some reason.

Are you downloading the images, or are you copying them and pasting them?

Set the image to RGB color mode under Image > Mode > RGB color, that solved this very same issue for me! The old black and white strips are in Indexed color mode. I'm not exactly sure why that causes this problem, but it does.

Well, I tried edit in the illustrator. the text turn a good quality, but is not the same thing in the Photoshop.

As a note guys, when an image has indexed color, it cannot render aliasing, gradients or basically anything vector-based like text. Always move it to some full color image mode when editing. Also, be sure to check your font options to make sure you have anti-aliasing turned on.
