"Ah. Okay then. Well, we can definitely ask my parents. How would it help their company though?" Makani asks doubtfully as he flags down a taxi to take them the short distance to the closest shopping precinct.

"Personally I find DC current works miracles for recharging my batteries." Kelly jokes, hoping to lighten Elizabeth's mood.
"As a matter of fact JD is writing a new comedy even as we speak. It probably won't be ready to perform for at least six months but I'm sure you'd be welcome to join the test audience when it is ready. We try to perform a variety of plays and shows to cater to as many people as possible, both original compositions and works from all the well-known masters."

"I was hoping your human would work on a tech to help animals cook without the glove thing. Once he can see and taste the fruits of my effort, he might invest something in some new ideas. Like something I came up with, for example." He threw Makani a hopeful grinHlaoroo wrote:"Ah. Okay then. Well, we can definitely ask my parents. How would it help their company though?" Liz went back to finish her second serving, before feeling halway sated -my, she *had* spent a lot of energies these days. "Do you have any preference? I mean, what genre do you work on most frequently?"Hlaoroo wrote:"Personally I find DC current works miracles for recharging my batteries." Kelly jokes, hoping to lighten Elizabeth's mood.

"What, like a robot, you mean?" Makani queries, climbing into the taxi. "Could be fun. Remember though that the company is all about producing efficient and renewable technology and integrating it into everyday life, and that my parents would expect a return on any investment they made. They are business people after all. How is your idea going to make them money?"
~~~~~~~~
"Well, my favourites are the musicals. But I enjoy all the shows we do. We do specialise in musicals so I work on those most frequently but as I said, we do perform all kinds of shows. There's something for everyone at JD's theatre. Additionally the public is welcome to rent our theatre space and produce their own shows. So that also adds variety to our repertoire."
Re: HPU: Apollo City
"I can't blame you, Shayla," Malcolm admitted. "I'd hate me too. The only thing in my defence is I'd thought I was giving you to someone who would look after you. Help you. Give you a good life. It wasn't that I didn't... didn't care," he said with resignation. "At the... at the time I didn't know how to. Or if up was down or... anything. I'll never excuse myself for that and I know you won't either. So... they... treated you badly?" He sighed. "On that, I'm sorry. And annoyed. I trusted someone. They abused you and lied to me. On one of my trips after I'd tried to reconnect they took me to what they said was your grave to say goodbye."
"But why keep me then, Dad," Francis asked simply.
"Because losing Shayla was... bad enough, Francis. Especially so soon after... after your mother. But... you didn't remind me so much of... her. And..." he swallowed, "you were the last link to the better part of my life."
Re: HPU: Apollo City
It wasn't like she had expected to be.
She was angry -no, skip that, furious, and in her own right.
She had dreamed of all the ways she could've made this miserable rich ape PAY for what she suffered...
But she also saw that this man wasn't...lying.
He had done a bad thing, he had been a coward.
He regretted it.
And he didn't know the truth.
What would've happened, had he known the truth?
That she was alive, somewhere? Praying only to go back home?
The home he had kicked her out from because she was like some object reminding him of a loss?
And the rage that was deflating came again. Made her blood run faster, making her head pound.
She hated this, feeling so...so...
She loved him.
She hated him.
Maul.
Hug.
Shayla didn't even realize she had fallen on her knees, holding her head in a clutch, a pitiful mew escaping her lips...
Re: HPU: Apollo City
It was Francis who moved a hair faster than his dad but that may just be a Cat thing as they took hold of Shayla and bonked each others' head whilst doing it. It was almost funny but they had no inclination towards laughter as they both held this stranger sister and daughter, most of them trying not to give in to tears.
Re: HPU: Apollo City
Avery had not expected her job to be as... prolific as it was, not that she minded but... Over a hundred different patients all with separate cases... There would be a lot of files she would have keep track of, and though she had originally insisted that she didn’t need an assistant the canine was happy to have one now!valerio wrote: A human finely dressed lightly rapped on the door.
"Doctor Avery? Sir, the first of your patients is here, if you are ready." Hiring an assistant had become a urgent necessity after the embarkment of over a hundred of rescue animals had taken place at the last moment. Basically, what had promised to be an interesting though not exciting job had turned into one heck of a test for the newly appointed ship's psychiatrist. Ever patient was a handbook case of what years of abuse to all levels could do to an innocent soul. The assistant himself often looked as if he wanted to hug them to console them, and only the knowledge that it could cost him an arm, an eye and something else prevented him from doing so...
Not that she doubted her own abilities of course. The canine was after all literally trained from birth for this moment. Treating people and animals was her job, and so help her dog she would make sure each and every one of them got the treatment they deserved!
After prepping the file of the first patient of the day from the stack she had on her desk Avery hollered over to the assistant.
“Yes please! Send the first one in!”
Re: HPU: Apollo City
Shayla sniffed. She pouted at Francis. "I*sniff*I never stopped thinking about you. It was the only thing that kept me sane, and you--you--you didn't even 'member me!" She slapped his shoulderWelsh Halfwit wrote:It was Francis who moved a hair faster than his dad but that may just be a Cat thing as they took hold of Shayla and bonked each others' head whilst doing it. This was a GSD, a female, purebreed. She walked like royalty -or at least, she tried to keep an image of self-confidence. her file said...about what was done to her. In unspeakable activities. Name: Asaka. Age: 8. Rescued two years ago, never claimed for adoption.Roarin wrote:Avery had not expected her job to be as... prolific as it was, not that she minded but... "Hello, Doctor," she said, sitting down. Blue eyes, uncommon in her breed. "How you doin'?"
"We'll {snf} Ow(!) have to change that," Francis said. "Have... have you met Tegan, my, um, my.. girlfriend?"
Malcolm just flicked Tegan a look that spoke of nothing much and kept close to his lost daughter.
Francis managed a laugh. "I managed to get myself on her team via unusual means," he confessed. "but she's great. Same for your friends, I take it?"
Now Malcolm looked at Tegan and offered a shaking hand. "I wish... it were better timed but... Nice to meet you, miss."
Pascal was taking mental notes from the lesson. He wondered if he should take the advice of surprise being the secret to this. Eh, it was worth a try. Pascal got closer, weaving between the dogs' legs to keep out of sight of Asur.valerio wrote:The dogs were growling, now. They were one step away from drawing blood -one thing was to lose a fight, another to be *humiliated* like a pack of noobs!
They attacked again. They covered the distance.
Asur didn't move, eyes still closed.
Teeth flashed. Just a couple of inches from--
Asur opened his eyes! He didn't jump away, as promised. He went down, hands on the mat, and like a whirlwind he rolled, using a leg and the tail to hammer the sheen of the dogs in front of him! And simply rolled away as the momentum carried the unfortunate ones a moment ago in front of him...against the others. Again.
"Lesson numero due," he said, patting his hands. "*never* repeat your attack scheme. If the first time fails, improvise. Surprise is the secret. Ok, third time: let's see if those thick marble blocks you call skulls got the lesson. This time, no jumping up, no jumping down. Should be easy enough even for you."
"We're supposed to look out for each other. What is he doing?" Beta said. "I've considered it, but with everything that's happened, I haven't had the time."valerio wrote:"I thought he was in charge of protecting you," Jemmy said. "So...Have you considered ask for the cooperation of diabetic travelers aboard the ship? There are six known passengers, one pet five humans."
No, more like an electrostatic net. The furry chef wouldn't have to wear nothing but his gorgeous looks and this tool that keeps the fur sticking to the body. Wouldn't be that neat?Hlaoroo wrote:"What, like a robot, you mean?" Makani queries, climbing into the taxi. "Could be fun. Tegan shook hands. "The pleasure is mine, Sir. Will you excuse me a moment..?" She let go of the human hand and went to Francis...before slapping his other shoulder. "You *still* hadn't told him?!"Welsh Halfwit wrote:Francis managed a laugh. "I managed to get myself on her team via unusual means," he confessed. "but she's great. Same for your friends, I take it?"
Shayla grinned "I like your style. Do it again."
A bear of a dog turned toward the spectators. "Kaiser!"CyberDragon wrote:Pascal was taking mental notes from the lesson. He wondered if he should take the advice of surprise being the secret to this. Eh, it was worth a try. Pascal got closer, weaving between the dogs' legs to keep out of sight of Asur.
"Coming righ-o, big boss!" answered...a Chihihuaua. A mixed Chi with some fuzzier breed and mox-black fur. Talk about contrast, among those brutes.
The big dog just said, "Pawn in C-4, Kaiser. Show's on!" And this said, he took the little one in his arm. His fur was so thick, the smaller dog almost disappeared in it.
"So," he said, crackling his knuckles. "No running away. means you're gonna fight back, eh? One-to-ten. Fair enough."
The dogs assumed position. This time, they did as a trained pack, making sure that at least one of them could touch one of the colored spot on the droid's skin...
Asur didn't move. Didn't smile. Eyes closed. He just said, "Your funeral, pups."
ATTACK! No roars, not one wasted move as they converged so to avoid getting into each other's--
The reptilian droid was like a blur. A fist on the muzzle. One on the chest. Neck-chop. Roundhouse...No matter how hard trained, the poor canines were still only organic beings before a pure war machine programmed to inflict the perfect damage through the smartest moves...
...and finally, the last one fell with a whine after being hit in the stomach.
Asur nodded. "You *might* hold some quality here, but you must do better. The tribe of the red wolves of Meriweather are not minime, but they can deliver harm, and you must learn to--" his face froze in shock as the most unexpected sound came from his body.
"*BREEEEEP!*"
It came from the spot...on his butt! Just one of the most dangerous parts to reach due to the tail.
And little Kaiser, emerging from the body of his bigger brethren, was pushing it. "Gee-tcha, bigsnout!"
The other dog just lifted a victorious fist without moving from the floor. "Hooray," he groaned.
For a moment, Asur's expression became one of total, homicidal hatred, fangs gleaming under the artificial light...and then he threw back his head and roared a hearty laugh! "Indeed ya did, you folks! Congratulations! A tactic based on spirit of sacrifice. Checkmate!" he bent down to help the big dog to stand up. "You two earned your next level, mutts. Congratulations. Keep on like this and we'll have our first Captains of the Force. Name's Odin, right?"
"I will gladly assist you now that my counterplart has found an hobby," Jemmy said to the tiger.
Shayla let go of him. "I'd have some ideas, but...Just let's send them a pic. And then tell them what you'll do to them. Metaphorically. Far as I'm concerned, they lost. They tried and they lost. "We don't really believe in names," the grey striped one said. "Not those inflicted upon us by humans who don't care anyway."
"Mr. Foster *does* care," Bourbon said.
The red cat, Quattro, nodded. "Fair enough. We'll get our baptism on Tricana, if necessary. Until then, it's just Uno and Quattro. Nice t'meecha, Fran. Human."
"Call me Malcolm," Malcolm offered, dabbing away water from his eyes with a hankie whilst holding out his other for Uno.
"And not one of the worse names Shayla's been calling him," Francis said, trying hard for a joke to lighten the mood. "It seems I...<swallow> have a lot to ask you about. <snf> If... if I can think of anything..."
"If you can put up," Francis started before wondering how to put it correctly. "If you can put up with a brother who works in security, I'm sure I can put up with you, Shayl...sis. That word seems odd."
"We could..." Francis paused, as though recalling something just beyond him, "...always go bowling? Strange," he admitted, "I think that means something... Do they do teams of seven? I'm not sure I know."
"Probably best if I just watch," Malcolm admitted, heart heavy with pride.
Pascal skidded to a halt, laying on the floor and looking up at the ceiling. He blinked a couple of times before jumping to his feet. "Well. That tickled. If the rules are first to give, first to lose, this could take a while."
Running on all fours to increase his speed, Pascal charged at Asur. He leaped up... but fell short as that was a feint. He dove to the side before springing up and drop kicking Asur in the spot that, were he organic, would have been his liver with the force of a flying brick. He figured it wouldn't work the same on the android, but he figured he'd show off how he would maximize damage to an ordinary opponent despite his small size.
Shayla looked at him up and down. "What? No! And miss the chance of humiliating you? I still must get vindicated, y'know. I hope you're good, don't want this t'be too easy, old ape."Welsh Halfwit wrote:"We could..." Francis paused, as though recalling something just beyond him, "...always go bowling? "Good enough..." Asur grinned...as his hand grabbed the rat in a vicious grip. "But wrong assumption. Not organic, remember, Jimbo?" This time, he slammed the rat down onto the floor. "Now your turn to get free or give. I can stay here until your inner organs rot."CyberDragon wrote:Pascal skidded to a halt, laying on the floor and looking up at the ceiling. "That... Sounds rather dangerous. You'll end up electrocuting yourself. Or getting snagged on something and tripping over... Sorry to be a downer. I just wanna keep you safe." Makani says as the car enters the shopping precinct.
"Very good. It would be wise to have the doctor's input to select those who can work in a group and who will be most capable of handling the stress of being in a show. I shall begin compiling a list of possible productions immediately." Kelly agrees. "How are you enjoying your breakfast?"
"Aw. okay, I'll try to come up with something else. Hmm, perhaps a way to pressurize the kitchen so that no hair falls on the food. Or a full-body groomer to remove all dead fur before getting in. Or a designer's silk dress with nanohooks -if one has to wear a glove, at least it could be with practicity and style..."and on he rantedHlaoroo wrote:"That... Sounds rather dangerous. As for my...breakfast..?" she noticed just then that the food was entirely gone and that she was staring at three empty and clean plates resting in a pile. "Guess I *was* hungry after all. "I left a meeting to come here," Malcolm said, putting his hand on Shayla's shoulder. "Best reason to miss a meeting ever."
"You're supposed to be retired, dad," Francis admonished.
"Tell the other businessmen aboard," he said, shrugging. "Where to for bowling, Tegan?"
Re: HPU: Apollo City
"OOF!" Pascal exclaimed when Asur slammed him and pinned him on the ground. "That was like... getting hit somewhat hard by an uncomfortably stiff pillow."
Pascal started wedging his arms into Asur's grip. He didn't need to fully pry open the droid's hands, he just needed to get enough force and leverage to loosen his grip. Luckily, force and leverage were two things that Pascal was particularly good at. Using his sturdy and unbreakable arms to brace against Asur's fingers, Pascal started prying them apart until he felt the pressure ease just enough...
Pascal popped out of Asur's grip. Wasting no time, he decided to get more serious about this. Asur made it clear he should treat this like a fight against an armored droid, not as a chance to demonstrate how to fight an unarmored organic being. All armor had weak points to allow mobility. Even Pascal's armor didn't fully cover the interior of his joints, it's just those gaps were too small to matter. On the large droid, however, those gaps would have to be bigger.
The rat dodged and dashed between Asur's legs. He leaped up, spinning in mid air until he was level with the back of Asur's knees. Then, with one swift movement, Pascal grabbed the wooden handle on his pack labeled "Old Hickory" with both hands, drew the ten inch sharpened butcher knife, and using all of his strength and momentum and as much speed as he could muster, he slashed the back of Asur's knee joint. He sheathed the blade midair in the same stroke and landed smoothly before looking up to see if he did any damage.
Re: HPU: Apollo City
Francis enjoyed the hug. It even brought out a bit of a purr that he tried to stop before too many heard it. "I am so confused by all this," he confided quietly whilst they waited for the wheel.
Re: HPU: Apollo City
"Very...deductive," Asur muttered, turning, his leg bent awkward now. "One of the reasons I need a tough skin is that the parts inside must be repleaceable. Should someone work too much money and time to replace an excessively exotic metal, I'd become...too expensive to use, given that I am a combat droid."
The dogs let out bays and howls of encouragement to Pascal. That diminutive zombie was being positively cheered like a hero!
Asur grinned again. "Hey, wanna see a trick?"
Re: HPU: Apollo City
"Later." Pascal said, preparing to dash for his target. Asur never did give in. The fight was still going on, and Pascal didn't want to miss his chance. The "diminutive zombie" ran and leaped onto Asur's injured leg, gripping it hard so he wouldn't fall off. "You know, you got me thinking..." Pascal climbed and dodged his way over to the injury until he managed to reach up and grab the loose skin. "You being a robot does shut down some avenues of attack. Liver shots, kidney shots, blows to the groin and to major pressure points... None of that works on you." Pascal pulled himself up and actually started climbing into the large cut on Asur's leg. "But, a couple of other opportunities open themselves up... For example, I'd never try to fight an organic being like this! I'd drown in all sorts of blood and fluids..." Pascal was inside, under Asur's armor and among the wires and metal bones. He started climbing. "You on the other hand, you don't have all of that. I can breath in here. barely... And under all of that armor, you are quite vulnerable." Pascal had reached Asur's hip joint. He looked around and saw what he was looking for. He gripped the cable leading from the main power supply to Asur's leg servo motors. "For example... THIS looks important!" Pascal pulled, unplugging the wire from it's port in the motors. "Do you surrender yet, Reploid?"
As Asur fell down like a broken doll, the dogs went wild with savage happiness!
"Wild. Nasty. Fast. Efficient. Just how I like it...But, surrender? Such insults are not in my DB. Plus..." And this said, a tangle of the thinnest threads erupted from under Pascal's feet, wrapping the rat like a fish in a net!
Then Asur...got on his knees. and then stood "Nice moves, I must admit it. But never forget the concept of 'backup battery' when dealing with a billion-dollar machine." He replugged his main source, then the nanites in the skin started the healing process at a molecular level. "To your benefit. I was tortured, destroyed, disassembled, slowly and fast. In other words, stress-tested so that I could respond as best as possible to all levels to as many threats as possible. Every part of me is a weapon, like that tangle. Carbon filaments with a real edge. The more you move, the more they cut. For your own good, you should know that resistance is futile, but I concede it: you got where few could. Bravo!"
"A better fabric could definitely work although you'd still have to wear disposable gloves. An air curtain between you and all work surfaces could work too but again you'd still have to wear gloves. We'd have to do some experimentation to prove it though." Makani says as the car pulls up outside the pharmacy. He thanks the Elen-unit and swipes his wristband to pay for the trip and then leads Flash into the pharmacy and up to the counter where he waits patiently to be served.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that as a comparison or competition. I simply meant that working in the theatre presents its own unique challenges and some pets and people who have suffered from abuse may find it difficult to cope. For instance, performers need to be able to socialise as well as to be able to follow directions. They need to be able to face crowds and they may need to be able to deal with loud noises, bright flashing lights, smoke machines or other special effects. I am glad you enjoyed the meal though."
"Thank you! You've been such a dear, thanks for the company. Oh, among the security staff we have this GSD who has a strong in metal music. So far, we hadn't had a concert of that, it could make for an interesting experience. Goes by the name of Torque Nightshade. Well, now gotta go. Good luck with him if you were interested. ...Well, more than one. Each could carry no more than 2 humans or four average-size pets. So it was 3 wheels that stopped in front of the bar. . "Okay," Bourbon said. I go with bigshot ape.
