"I was running away all my life, Firstborn. No more running away." Balkan said with serious expression, which shortly softened into more relaxed one "I am not recognized as a leader among the wolves, yet I stayed around the lycaons and humans long enough so that I take the charge of the Ambassador of the wolves." He glanced at Valken "As for the leader of the wolves - my uncle Valken is the best choice. Humans call it "Win-win scenario" -that way you'll have the alpha blood leader of the wolves and an ambassador who knows what to do."

Wurgar scoffed. <'Ambassador'. First, you claim you want to take responsibilities, then you sidestep with this petty hypocrisy... But I understand that, given your mindset, you will turn the worst chieftain ever if your heart is not into it.
<So be it, Ambassador Balkan! Play your little game, but remember: you are not destined to fade into oblivion. Sooner or later, you'll be called to life-affecting decisions. Failing will mark you as a lone wanderer, traitor to your kin, cursed in this life and in the afterlife. So use this role to learn, to prepare yourself to the day on which you'll be bearing the mantle.>

Balkan bowed his head "Thank you for your understanding, Firstborn, yet there's one more Ambassador that the wolves need." he glanced at Gian "He's like me - a half-wolf. I would like to send him as Ambassador with Arcadia and the rabbits."

The spiritual ancestor just shrugged.
<From now on, all decisions regarding matters in your mortal plane depend on you. You don't have to ask for any more permissions or blessings. Succeed, and you'll be rewarded. Fail, and you'll be cursed. So long, descendant, and may our next encounter be under less...stressing circumstances.>
That said, a tunnel of pure white light roared open. Wurgar, Fen'rir and their escort walked into the opening, and once they had passed, it cloased with a loud sucking sound.

"So, Barty. Did everything turn out okay, or is the fight still going on." Levi had noticed his spectral friend being quiet and not doing anything for a little while now.

<What? Oh uhm, yes.> The spectral figure nodded. <Everything did go well, though not every thing. The one supposed to become chieftain refused to bear the mantle. I fear this will not bode well in the long run...>

It went on for what seemed like hours, until Lars realized his body had been burning fervently in the blue flame he had been engulfed in. The whiteness in his eyes had started to clear his pristine irises, and soon only his two mates and the two loves of his life came into view.

"Oh gosh.." Lars said, as he stared at a simmering flame on his paw sinking back in. He realized that he wasn't burnt from while this mystical fire raged on his body earlier.

"Right...I don't think I'm able to comprehend what just happened....unless any of you care to elaborate in detail?" Lars, trying not to be in shock the whole time . He picked up the paddle of the canoe and continued paddling out to sea.

The two females looked at each other. they were clearly puzzled.
Then Diana said, "Today, a demon was subdued thanks to the combined effort of a blessed warrior and the old chieftain of the Red Wolves from the Green Ring Forest."
Athena shook her head. "The Demon Sylar is gone, and the old chieftain perished in the battle, yet the young halfbreed who was supposed to take his place refused this role."
"It is not good, for this creates a vacuum in the highest position, in a moment in which the wolves must rely on a chieftain they respect."
"Let us hope our fears are empty. Now let's go to the sea, mate, for nothing else can be done by our side, for now."

Lars was a little disorientated at the situation at hand, in context to what he had experienced.

''I see....well I certainly hope things go well at their end. It sounds really complicated...'' Lars said as he paddled through the steady river until they reached the dark blue waters of the sea.

Lars stood up momentarily and sat back down. He began giving his back and front muscles huge stretches and picked up his make-shift spear which he carved out earlier. ''It's been a while since I've done this..'' the dog said, inhaling and exhaling, slowing down his heart rate and letting all the oxygen he could ever gather enter his lungs.

''Heeeeyyyy.......how about a game?'' Lars said, using a claw to stroke his chin. He grinned gleefully at his two mates and scootched between them, having each of his paws placed on their shoulder.

''Whoever spears the most number of fish wins....how about it girls?'' Lars asked playfully as he stroked their manes.

Athena facepawlmed. Diana snarled at him.
"What did we tell you about killing for the fun of it?"
"We are going to eat our kills, eat and be sated, not impoverish the sea."

Lars backed away quickly as soon as the snarling of his mate got to his wild ridden senses.

"Woah woah okay!! I'm...I'm sorry! I didn't know! I'll...I'll be more sensitive to these things from now on.." Lars said, a little saddened that he had aggravated his late THAT much. And she seemed to pout. He felt like was he was the biggest blockhead ever.

"Uhm...I'll go get us breakfast...I'm really sorry Diana sweetheart.." Lars said, taking up his spear and facing the water. He took in a final breath, and dove into the water, submerging himself within a few seconds.

The strong German shepherd gripped on tight to his spear and slowly descended to the reef and began spearing fish as well as crustaceans alike. In total he had gathered about 5 fish and 2 lobsters.

I really hope Diana will forgive me for what I have proposed... Lars thought as he ascended to the surface once more.

Both females looked satisfied by his catch.
"That is an impressive gathering for one single submersion," Athena said. "Now bring your prey to the boats, then follow us to the beach. There, we will cook what you got."

''Okay, coming..'' Lars said as he started swimming towards the canoe. He loaded his spear onto the craft and used two muscular arms to hoist himself back up as well. He still felt a little dissapointed at himself for disregarding the respect he was supposed to give to the sea. Looking at Diana, he felt that she was starting to get a little impatient with her brawny but brainless mate. He scratched his head fur as he picked up his paddle.

But just as he was about to row back to shore, something from the depths below caught his attention. They seemed like rocks at first, but after a while he managed to make up a rough shape of a shell....many rough textured shells...and something glimmering had begun revealing itself...inside! Oysters!

''Oh gosh!'' Lars squealed like a little pup. He then turned to Diana and placed his strong paws on her arms. ''Diana, I'm really sorry if I have angered you just now, and I think I'm able to compensate for that. I'll be right back!'' Lars said, tearing away his line of sight from her and quickly diving back into the sea.

The depth's pressure crushed against his big tank of a body and his heart rate went up, but the oyster containing the precious gem was the main goal all the while. With strong paddling hind legs he swiftly reached the bottom and the last bubbles of his oxygen escaped his muzzle as he gathered about 5 to 6 of them his his bulging arms. Smiling with glee, he quickly began making a fast ascent and finally broke to the surface.

''Blurgh....gah!'' Lars exclaimed, sputtering and expelling all the sea water from his mouth. He paddled back to the boat and abruptly tossed the oysters back in. He hurled himself in, breathing heavily and getting oxygen back in his system. He regained composure a short while later and and grabbed the oyster with the pearl in it. He faced Diana and used 2 fingers to open the shell, revealing the treasure.

''Diana...I *cough cough* hope this makes up for what I said just now. Will you forgive me my love?'' Lars said, blushing.

Athena and Diana exchanged an amused glance... Then both of them bent forward to kiss each a cheek of their mate.
"Your effort is appreciated, and though we give no value to pearls, at least not like you continental people do, we're sure someone at Salisgrave will appreciate them. Oh, and do you remember the part in which we told you to follow us to the beach?"

Lars was still feeling the effects of that pressure which had pressed against his body during his dive for the oysters, and that made him a little disorientated with his surroundings outside the water.

''Uhm...uh...Yeah I think..'' Lars replied, grabbing the paddle and rowing back to the beach, coughing violently. He was still trying to process what his two mates had asked him, and that was the best and fastest response he could give. His muscles began feeling the strain and no amount of blood pumped into his veins could fight off the fatigue he felt.

''Shucks....the sea here sure packs a punch....oops..'' Lars said.

It was then that Athena took the paddle and Diana pushed Lars off the boat!
"Then follow us, father of our cubs! A shaman is supposed to be strong in body as in soul. See you at the beach." And then they started padding toward the beach. They giggled.

Lars gasped as he got pushed back into the sea again! Gasping, he made his way to the surface and only found himself staring at his canoe cheekily being paddles towards the shore by his playful mates.

''Ahahaha you ladies are quite the jesters too eh?'' Lars called out as he watched them speed off to the beach. Using what's left of his strength from the dive, he utilized every inch of his big body to propel himself through the water. His muscles cried out for rest...but he grit his teeth and swam as fast as he could. His heart begun beating wildly inside his chest, and he didn't stop for nothing. He had a little surprise for them too..

He finally reached the beach, and he clambered out of the shallow water with heavy footsteps. His beautiful fur was all dripping wet, and it even covered his eyes. With a heavy thud, Lars plopped his back down on the soft sand, breathing heavily with his tongue out.

''Hah...ha..ha....You girls were simply *cough* nefarious...what's next I wonder...'' Lars moaned playfully.

Despite his exhaustion, Lars did as he was told to prove to them that he was a good mate and eventually a good Father to their cubs. He got up with a tiresome groan and stretched his bulging limbs, then grabbed the oysters and head to the shallow water. With a small blade he scalloped out the flesh and threw it back into the sea while he retained what his precious mates asked him to do. Once he was done, he brought back what was left of the oysters and went up to Diana. He set them down beside her and put his large arms around her shoulders as he sat down behind her.

''So what's on the menu today?'' Lars asked, nuzzling her cheek and inhaling her fresh scent. He picked up the pearl beside her and put it in her paw. ''Hmm, a moment ago you said you don't appreciate the value of pearls, but how about keeping it as a gift, from me?'' Lars asked, sinking his paws lower to her torso.

Lars smiled as he brought over his paw to Diana's and clasped the pearl within their combined grip.

''Trust me when I say it's from my heart, my love. Because deep inside, I know I will be lost without you, and you and Athena are my sources of inspiration and my purpose here. If it wasn't for you two, I would probably be dead. I know I can't marry you as a shaman, but I want to promise you that I will take care of you and our pups. This pearl here symbolises my undying love, and I want you two to embrace too.'' Lars said, giving her a kiss on the cheek.

The two females stopped their task. they looked at each other and nodded. They took each a pearl and put them into Lars' paw.
Then Athena took Lars' paw and with her claw she cut his palm! Then she and Diana did the same with their own limbs. They took hold of Lars' paw as their combined blood drenched the three pearls.
"Thus we are committed," Athena said. "Now we are one, in life and beyond that through our offspring. These pearls will link us to each other, allowing us to know and see and hear beyond our mortal senses. When one will be needing strength, the others will give it. When one will need to know, the others will see. Thus this seal is bond, never to be broken, perish our souls."

Sub-consciously, Lars knew that the ritual involving their blood would take place despite the disturbing actions involved. Lars never cared about cut paw but only widened his eyes in shock as they drew blood from their own bodies. He watched with a hungry curiosity as the three pearls got soaked with their blood and his. He nodded as they explained the significance behind this and placed their paws over his gripped paw which firmly held the blood pearls.

''Thank you two for making me complete. I am making much more sense out of this now...and I love you both...'' Lars said, laying them down and giving them both an intimate kiss.

''Heh...So what's for breakfast..'' Lars asked softly.

Lars chuckled with their reply as he put his arms around their shoulders. ''Definetly grilled my loves, definetly grilled. I guess I'll go find the firewood now..'' Lars said, giving them each a nuzzle on their noses and began scouring the beach for any loose wood he could burn. So far, only small twigs and fortunately, a dark colored log, were the only things which he could burn.

He gathered up the wood and headed back to his two mates. ''I've got 'em here..'' he said.

''Ah but of course my dear....I had tons of survival training prior to my arrival here, which also included making a fire..'' Lars said, placing the bigger log in front of him. He used a stick and placed it between his paws, rubbing them to create a friction against the log. Soon, some smoke arose, and small flames began appearing.

''Ahh...perfect. Now we put these and wait.'' Lars said, taking the rest of the loose wood he found and piling them on top of the log. The small embers which had inhabited the twigs had now begun to grow steadily with the constant wind provided by the island's pleasant atmosphere. A small fire was now already burning.

''There you go my love...'' Lars said, going over to Athena and hugging her waist. ''You can start cooking now..thanks for the hardwork.'' Lars complimented, giving her a small kiss on her cheek.

Sploosh! Cold water hit Flint and he woke up startled and sputtering. He coughed as the salty sea water burned his nose and dried his tongue. He squinted in the bright sunlight and stood up, remembering where he was. A few weeks ago he was able to sneak on board this moderately sized fishing boat as he was running away from the cops. On board he found a space in between some cargo boxes on the side of the ship where he could sleep while hiding from the crew on deck. He peered over the edge and looked off into the distance with his good eye. An island could be sighted in the distance. "Where is this? Hawaii?" He shrugged to himself. "Cool..." He couldn't think of anything else beyond that point because at that instant nausea hit him. He heeled over the side of the boat, leaning his arms against the safety rail, his tongue sticking out. Although he'd been at sea for days, each one seemed to start with a sickening body to his stomach. "I hope we get there soon..." A headache pounded in his... head as the boat slowly rocked towards its destination.
A good measure of time later Flint was able to stumble off the boat somehow unnoticed by the crew and onto the small dock. He wobbled to a stop and shook his head. "Land... finally... I almost went through all my food..." His legs felt like jello as he continued off the dock and onto a road. After regaining some strength he grabbed an apple from a shopping bag he was carrying and started eating it as he walked and looked at his surroundings. A few of the residents walked past him giving him a quick strange glance, but none stopped to talk to him. He continued on down the road, a nagging feeling was pulling at the back of his mind. He felt something was missing but couldnt put his finger on it. He stopped and took another good look around. "Wait... This isn't Hawaii. Where'd all the technology go?"

"Human gizmos are verboten here, landwalker," said a voice from above.
The voice of a seagull, perching on the stone roof of one of the ancient-looking homes. "Welcome to Meriweather Island, stranger. Are you too running away from troubles eh?" the bird winked. "Don't worry, I won't tell on you, you won't be the first looking for the Foreign Legion and finding paradise instead. Oh," he put a wing over his chest. "I am J-Li. Charmed."

Flint stopped and looked up at the bird, observing it suspiciously. "Nice to meet you J-Li, I'm...a long way from home.". He adjusted his Yankee's cap. "As for running away from troubles.". A crafty smile appeared on his face. "I have no idea what your talking about. I may have allegedly stowed away on a boat. But I assure you. It was an accident. You can trust me on that one. Nothing would keep me from staying put on dry land.". He noticed someone giving him an odd glance as they walked by. "But what's up with the aggression from the locals? It's not like I did anything wro-... well, nothin the whole island would know about.". Flint looked around for a trashcan, but couldn't find any. So he put the apple core back in the plastic bag.

The seagull followed him, flying from roof to roof. "Dear boy, there are three kind of residents, here: the families who bought this portion of the island to lead a life of quite retirement, or to raise their top-quality dogs -and yes, they are all german shepherds, the most appreciated breed on this island.
"There are the research teams with their pets. Then there are the tourists, who come with their pets as well since this is a pet friendly resort.
"And finally we have the native fauna, with the dominant species being German Lycaons, Rabbits, Red Wolves and the Titan Boas." J-Li stopped on the top of an ancient lamp post. "And you, my dear newbie, don't fit any of these cathegories if I'm correct. In this part of the island, an unchecked stranger is not really well-regarded, especially after the latest events."

Flint grinned and raised a black paw. "No category. That's me.". He said proudly. His ears twitched as he heard a horse trot down the road, looking he found it pulling a cart. He waited for it to pass before skillfully and quietly climbing onto te back. The man in the front didn't seem to notice him as he sat on edge withhis feet dangling. "But newbie? Not sure about that one.". He crossed his legs and observed the scene around him. He took in a deep breath of salty air and sighed in satisfaction. An adventurous gleam shined in his eye. " What's this about latest events?".

The seagull perched on the dog's shoulder. "Oh, a sort of pirate attack. Band of bandits took the tourists in the hotel as hostage to force Mr. Spencers to cough up his dough or something. Then Mr. Spencers played turnabout and now the bandits are waiting for their sentence in a comfy cell... But what's worse, some of them bandits were pets who had worked for Spencers. So you see, strangers are not really highly regarded right now."

"Pillage and plunder. Bandits and pirates. Who knew I'd find adventure stealing a bag of apples.". He shut his mouth once the words were out. He looked at the seagull. "I mean, I found them lying on the ground at a street corner. Conveniently in this bag.". He gave a weak smile. "So, to sum it up. An island in the middle of nowhere, raided by pirates, with no technology from this century. Sounds like something from a movie.". He laughed quietly. "I wouldn't be surprised if they had a witch doctor and spirits roamed the beach at night.". He added in a sarcastic tone. Flint laid back against the side of the cart and quietly hummed "The Good Life" by Sinatra.

"Oh, we *do* have them. The spirits, I mean: the shamans can play neat tricks with them. And I heard a tourist just befriended a ghost.
"Anyway, don't worry about a mere bag of apples, lad: that's the kind of prank a kit rabbit will play here around. Oh, and if you miss the hitech, you should go to the Blue Peak Shore resort, on the other side of this island..." The bird rubbed his beak with a wing. "Hmm, no, bad idea: they'd put you into a jail jus for being here and with no owner. Say, why don't you hang around here? Just be cool and no one will go after you. Just remember to avoid dating the girls, they are very uppity with the pure breed thing, though you might strike lucky and meet one of them lycaon girls. It is jackpot time then!"

Flint sat up. "Resort!". He jumped off the cart, leaving his bag and a surprised cartdriver behind him. Landing awkwardly he started down a different path. "Cmon J-Li. Let's go see this resort. I might make base around here, but for now.". Ignoring all of the bird's warnings about the resort. He stretched. "I feel like goin on a road trip.". He took his cap and wore it backwards as he merrily trotted down a random path. "So, tell me more about these lycaons.". He said trying to sound as casual as possible.
"Sleep is due to me... And I have a dream to live."

That said, a tunnel of pure white light roared open. Wurgar, Fen'rir and their escort walked into the opening, and once they had passed, it cloased with a loud sucking sound.
As the opening closed, Balkan turned his attention to the spirit of his Father.
"You dishonored me, Val'kir!" he raised his knife "I believed in your Ideal, seen you as a guiding star... while you ended up as everyone else - selfish!"
The spirit knelt and bowed his head low.
["Son"] Val'kir whimpered ["Son, please forgive me!"] The spirit raised his head and looked at his son ["I was blind to my own egoism and the blind lust for revenge I've seen as justice..."]
"How can I trust you now, Father?" Balkan asked.
["Balkan, dear, please trust your Father on this one."] Rosa stepped forwards and put a paw on his shoulder.
"Mother..." Balkan put a paw on hers, somewhat amazed he could feel her paw warm. "I guess...it's alright, he saw his mistake." he took Rosa's paw in his own and gave her a short smile "Thank you, mother."
Then Balkan let go off her and stepped towards his Father's spirit "Val'kir, Father, although your intentions were honorable, Your goal wasn't. Yet you saw your mistakes and now ask me for forgiveness." He placed a paw on the wolf's spirit shoulder "Father, I forgive you!"
Suddenly, Val'kir shone in blinding light, slowly lifting in the air.
Balkan was looking at his Father's spirit, worried.
The spirit looked back at his son and smiled ["I'm... Ascending!"] He began to fade ["Thank you, son!"] Val'kir faded.
Balkan turned back at his mother and saw both Rosa and Val'kir, holding each other's paws
"How..." he simply mumbled.
Both his parent stepped forward and hugged him.
["Son, You forgave me and therefore freed me. I ascended and now I'm part of the island, same as any other spirit. Thank you!"] they let go of the half-wolf ["Don't keep them waiting, Ambassador!"] With these words faded, as well as Ymijar and all the others, leaving the half-wolf alone in the arena.
The Half-wolf looked at the crowd... and howled. His howl was as much victorious as it was sad and happy at the same time.

The seagull sighed. "Youngsters... Anyway, it's your hide, not my feathers. It will take two or three days at a good stride.
"The lycaons and the red wolves come from Africa, so it is been told. When they came here, they used to live in peace with each other, but then something happened. They couldn't breed with each other and that caused a slow genetic degradation.
"The wolves didn't take it well, they somehow blamed the lycaons, and a long war started. And I mean *long*, something going on for centuries, until, just when it looked the wolves were about to extinguish their enemies, the humans came on this island. It was the days of World War II, and the humans needed Tricana (that's the island's original name) as base to protect their convoys in this ocean. The wolves tried to kill the humans too, and the lycaons sided with them and their war dogs.
"The wolves were defeated, and suffered great losses, until the only place where they could find shelter was in the heart of the forest, at the base of the hills that surround the Blue Peak Mountain." J-Li pointed at the majestic mountain and its waterfall. "The lycaons helped the human on this island, and they also discovered they could breed successfully with the war dogs. This not only saved them as a tribe, but also started a sort of...well, amorous cult. The new German Lycaon breed is consecrated to mating with the new dogs on the island, both to celebrate their survival and to improve their gene pool.
"In other words, lad, should a lycaon girl cross your path, get ready for a LOT of fun."

Flint slowed down the pace of his walk. "Yeah but... I have a feeling its not the kind of fun I'm used too..." He said timidly, looking at the ground and pulling at his collar nervously. "Yeah...". He shook the thought out of his head. "Anyways, two or three days... i usually dont mind but, isnt there a faster way to get there? You said something about a forest right? Couldn't i just cut straight through there? Or hitch a ride or something. I dont think i have the rations to go on for that long." He looked around him with his good eye. "Maybe another cart might pass by."
"Sleep is due to me... And I have a dream to live."

"The carts serve the inner villages, from which the humans get some food goods. Their idea is to live separated from the resort, so no you won't find a cart for the resort. It's the boats who go to its piers. And as long as you avoid wandering into the wolves' territory, you should be safe."
