Me too. He's one of my favourite authors. He certainly had a big influence on me and he was actually the one that got me into reading novels instead of picture books. Redwall was the first novel I ever read and I still remember reading it that first time.

RIP Brian.

Did he actually say that quote or was it one of the characters he wrote for?

I'm pretty sure that was him joking around in an interview although I can't seem to find any context around it.

It would have been something along the lines of "One doesn't just sit up and say "[that quote]". Being an author takes a lot of hard work and patience."

Jacques loved writing for the sake of writing and for entertaining his readers. If he could make some money off it too then so much the better. Money was never his motivation though.

I know that, but I haven't watched most of the episodes.
Actually, the show is still trying to push its cancellation as far as possible. It's rumored that the studio still has another 256 episodes planned (putting it at 700, the same number of chapters as the manga, tho with a lot more content). It's also been rumored that Studio Pierrot is planning to continue the franchise by adapting Kishimoto's (the author) stories of the main character's son. That's still just a rumor at this point.
