My college jazz band had four bassists last semester. We ended up splitting into different ensembles (and I played piano anyway), but I suggested we have a bass quartet. The idea didn't take.

Hey, if you guys want to get together with my sister you could make a bass quartet here! I'm sure she'd be up for it...and understand what was going on...

I'm not sure a bass quartet is really doable! Maybe with some super-creative, super-skilled bassists. I'm not that good.

I dunno, six can be pretty useful in the BEADGC configuration, which gives you low access for exotic keys and high access for solos.
