What's Your Country Like?

Re: What's Your Country Like?
Well, I live in the United States of America. In the rainy, green state of Washington. It does rain as much as everyone says it does, but it was surprisingly dry this last summer.

I actually have a friend who plans on traveling across the country and meeting up with a bunch of his internet friends, myself included. He doesn't know if it will ever become a reality, but it'd be neat hanging out with him for a little while.

Re: What's Your Country Like?
I want to plan a trip with some friends from High school! That would be good fun, planning process is still in the works though!
Re: What's Your Country Like?
i haven't traveled through much of Canada, but i can tell you it's very diverse
there's fields, forests, mountains, and one desert in the corner of BC
i rarely see fat people
there's a good balance on stupid to smart people
over all it's nice

Eh, I don't think I can keep up with this thread anymore...
... Just kidding!
The instant noddle in Indonesia is really cheap though. A pack of noddles costs around Rp.1000, you can probably buy around 8 packs of instant noddle with 1 USD.
On the other hand, fast food is quite expensive in Indonesia... I think a single fried chicken costs around Rp.10000 in Texas Chicken , and probably around Rp.15000 in KFC... Very expensive compared to a single plate of fried rice! (The cheapest kind costs about Rp.5000...)
Of course, I am sure instant noddles are a lot worse than fast food in terms of health... It is, however, a life saver for the poor.
Yes, I never heard of a 99 cents double cheeseburger and I don't know what McDonald is!Sleet wrote:Cheap and delicious food that's bad for you? It is natural for people to criticise their own country, all that I am looking for is the truth about other countries and this would inevitably include the bad points too.Beagle wrote:I'm just annoyed at how many people (from America themselves) are saying that the USA sucks. It's going to be boring sometimes, that's life itself, not your country.Sleet wrote:C'mon Beagle, we're a better community than that! We're not going to go hate on each others' countries or anything.
No one was really ripping on one another, I didn't mean it like that. My bad.
I'm tired and off to bed.
As for the flaming I think you were referring to the North and South discussion, all the posts are people's point of view on their countries and occasionally someone will have a different point of view, as long as it does not turn into an arguement or as long as people can be civil with each other it would be fine to debate.

I don't know if it's the same variety, but here you can buy instant ramen for about the same price you described. I'd say instant ramen is probably healthier than fast food, but not much. It's a staple for college students.Aquablast wrote:Eh, I don't think I can keep up with this thread anymore...

Re: What's Your Country Like?
I mean, I'd like to ramble about how many things are wrong with America and how so many people choose to be ignorant of said problems but that doesn't mean that I'm not grateful for the freedom and choices that my government provides me. No matter how cynical and disrespectful I may seem, I never forget that I'm lucky to have the choices I do.
But seriously, in my civics class we are actually being taught that communism is the same thing as totalitarianism (NOT TRUE!) and that America is "the most free country on earth". At one point in class I murmured sarcastically to my friend, "It's a proven fact that America is 38% more free than the UK" My teacher would actually have us believe that.

I live in a part of Germany that's similar to some regions of France with a nice climate and lots of vineyards where you can get grapes for free (provided no vigneron is around).

You know that's not what I meant. Quality of healthcare and education here is much lower than most developed countries, as our income gap between the rich and the poor is much higher.Dubiousity wrote:Indeed.Private Elliot wrote:Someone is begging to start a flamewar.Anthroguy101 wrote:America: falling behind the rest of the world since the '70s.

However, within America, Minnesota ranks #2 in life expectancy (behind only Hawaii), #13 in GDP per capita, and #1 in ACT scores. I have repeatedly pointed that out.
I want to move to Minnesota when I'm finished with college.
Alright, I think I've said all I've wanted to say.

Quality of healthcare here is BETTER than most other countries, it's just... more expensive.Anthroguy101 wrote: You know that's not what I meant. Quality of healthcare and education here is much lower than most developed countries, as our income gap between the rich and the poor is much higher.

Yeah. Example can be Iceland. If I'm correct, it was said in some ranking that it's the best country to live there. And it happened that Iceland was near bankruptcy,DigiManiac wrote:There is no perfect place in this world, sadly.
I only hope that those people who live there are okay and they don't have to worry about anything.

Wut?
Maybe you live in a different part of Texas, but it never gets cold here. The coldest it gets might be like, in the 20's a few times a year.

Re: What's Your Country Like?
Well New Zealand. We usually just point to 'The Lord of the Rings' movies and say "That's what the landscape looks like most of the time." Most of the land is undeveloped because we were pretty much the last country on Earth to be colonised. It look pretty for tourist who haven't seen it before but for people who live here is just the normal boring landscape. A lot of nice beaches which are great to go to during summer holidays (during December and January).
Only 4 million people in this country, with 1 mill living in my home city, Auckland. We are fairly culturally diverse to the point where we have more Tongans here than Tonga, . Our main sport is rugby, and we believe we are the best in the world at it. Were a farming nation so a lot of our produce gets put on every other countries plates (e.g. Kiwifruit). Also there are 10 times more sheep here then there are people. Pretty much all I can think of.
