 Re: What's Your Country Like?
Latin is at least helpful, because it means you have an easy time learning other romance languages. (I hesitate to mention that there is a language thread)
I think it's weird what little quirks of a country/other area of the world there are that you would never think about.
For example, Europe LOVES Nuttella (at least the parts I've been to). We have it in the states too, but its not nearly so ubiquitous.

I took three and forgot ALL of it. Except for whatever random sayings pop into my head from time to time.

Raindrops fallin' on mah hed....
The US is way too big to generalize the weather... but in Maryland it is way too humid ALL THE TIME. In fact, I think this is true of much of the East Coast, am I wrong?

 Re: What's Your Country Like?
Correction: Minnesota is 13th in Gross State Product per capita. Connecticut (that little piece of land right next to Rhode Island) is 1st.
If California (highest GSP) was its own country, it would have one of the ten largest economies in the world, with a GDP similar to that of Italy and is 10th in GSP per capita. Texas (2nd highest GSP) would be the 12th largest economy in the world and is 29th in GSP per capita. Pennsylvania (6th highest GSP) would be the 18th largest economy in the world and has the 26th highest GSP per capita. Georgia (10th highest GDP) would have the 28th largest economy and is 37th in GSP per capita. Wyoming has more mineral resources than it knows what to do with, and is capable of providing coal for the entire country for the rest of our lives. I've lived in Texas, Georgia, Wyoming and Pennsylvania in that order (I do not have even the slightest memory of Texas. I was born in Corpus Christi and we left for Savannah before I was a year old so please don't ask), but have never been to California. I've always wanted to go to California to see Hollywood or perhaps go to FC.
I've liked everywhere I lived except that little town in Pennsylvania you've never heard of (Warren). I hate it here. The people in this rust-belt town have this "outsider" mentality. If you weren't born here, people just aren't going to be as friendly with you. There's also nothing to do here. Can't wait to go to Erie.
To sum it all up: America. It's really really really really big and stuff. If you've only been to one part of America, you only know about one part of America. Some parts are better than others. It all depends on where you go.

 Re: What's Your Country Like?
I was told about California in class about its economy, if it was its own independant country it would be one of the wealthiest in the world, however the state has a real problem about initiatives which drain the state of a tax surplus. California makings a fortune out of its tourism and entertainment industries. As for GDP (Gross Domestic Product) the US makes a lot but the European Union makes more for some reason; World GDP: $57,000 Trillion (Estimated) EU GDP: $16,414 Trillion US GDP: $14,119 Trillion

I went to the UK once, but it was the Bahamas, so that's still America. Aside from that I've always been in the country.

Oh yeah, and in Italy (Maybe other parts of Europe too) they have those really tall skinny soda cans, at least compared to the American standard- anyone know why?

 Re: What's Your Country Like?
It's always good to know a foreign language.
So far I know english pretty well. I even plan to go on university to study english filology ( dunno yet would I choose british or us version). But that still depends, I still prefer photography.
I had in my school german, but somehow I cannot master this language. But I guess you cannot be perfect in everything.
One day I would like to try spanish. Or even japaneese because this language is exotic for me.

Let me tell you about Georgia.
We have a drought every other week. Rain simply refuses to fall, leaving alot of people annoyed. Hell, I haven't seen any rain since school started two months ago.

 Re: What's Your Country Like?
Our county contracted the electricity to a company that does a real bad job solving problems... So anytime there's a thunderstorm, or even just a fair amount of wind, the power goes out, and at times it's been some half a week before they get it back on to our neighborhood... so we keep flashlights handy throughout the entire month of August.

 Re: What's Your Country Like?
My grandpa lives in the Baltimore area, and he has the same problems. I was there once during one of those outages, and the power company took 5 hours to respond.

 Re: What's Your Country Like?
My grandparents power goes out for at least that long, if not longer, because they live on the outskirts of a very small town. That, and the company is always slow to get their work crews out.

Don't listen to Dub, guys. You don't want to take anything from New Jersey. South Park warned us about those guys! I'm joking. Maybe. *hugs*

 Re: What's Your Country Like?
So now I've been taking a tour through Slovenia, Italia, France and Spain, and I saw what other countries are like, and what my country is like. Guys, I'm serious, don't you dare to complain. Any of you! I'm sure the US aren't much different from the EU, but the difference between them and Bosnia is HUGE! I couldn't believe what I saw, it looked like heaven to me! Words can't describe the difference. Dub, I'm sure NJ isn't bad. Not as bad as Bosnia - it just can't be. So yeah.... live there and be happy.

 Re: What's Your Country Like?
That being the case, it must be difficult for countries like Bosnia to retain enough of their well-educated citizens to have a chance at becoming better. If your smartest and most capable people leave, you're left with the incompetent, the corrupt, and a few patriots too outnumbered to make a difference.

 Re: What's Your Country Like?
I like where I live. Of course here are some problems, but I just tell myself that other countries have problems aswell. And instead of running from those problems, I just try to solve them. It might be only 0,01% of what I can solve, but it's always something.
I like traveling to other countries, seeing foreign culture, landscapes, architecture, history... but it's always good to come back home and keep memories from those travels.

Amen Dub. Thank God my best friend lives a mile away. My two other really good friends live 5 miles away, on the other side of town. All the others live on the opposite of the school district (20 miles away) or 35 miles away, if we count the two that live in >city name here< and >other city name here<

Bosnia is part of the EU so you should be able to leave since the membership allows migration freely throughout the EU. There should be no reason to force you to remain in your country. Added: And it is considered that the US is ten years ahead of Europe in terms of standards apparently.
