 Re: Languages
We had waaaaaay too much free time, I'll put it that way. XD Too young to work or drive, weren't in high school yet, and neither of us were allowed to have a facebook or myspace. We also multi-tasked while one of us was playing on the Wii, and the other (on the computer) would quizz the person playing the Wii. *Busting out a move on Dance-Dance Revolution*... "Caitlin! What does _____ mean??"

 Re: Languages
Sadly not. I would love to learn Hebrew though. You wouldn't happen to know any good places to start, would you? They teach hebrew at my university, but I really don't have the time for any more courses right now. A friend of mine is learning Yiddish which I would also love to learn. I don't think I've ever come across a language I don't want to learn

 Re: Languages
Calm down Ebly, that was good, albeit somewhat "rigid". Like the word for fluent; in casual speech you'd probably just say ペラペラ instead of 流暢. Also, as a simple forumite I really don't expect anyone to use formal speech when talking to me About the teaching bit: PM me and we'll figure something out.

 Re: Languages
You could say I speak French, but that would be a gross exaggeration. Thanks to our county's High School French curriculum though, I can carry on a conversation* if it only involves simple words and is about what I did last weekend. *And yes I mean in French.

 Re: Languages
But Intertran is even worse. You don't even have to translate between two languages, just try English to English and it will already be an incomprehensible mess!!! YAY!* * In return Intertran is uniform unimproved. You don't uniform intend interpret betwixt duality phraseology , real experiment English be the cause of English with it resolution before exist an infinite stew!!! YAY!

 Re: Languages
English (Native) Spanish (De la casa y por una clase para en forzamiento del lenguaje) French (Je l'entends, mais je ne sais pas beaucoup d'il et je n'aime pas parler-là aussi.)
If you give me a dictionary, I can speak in French. Else, it's hard to remember all of the vocabulary you must know. As for Spanish, I hate knowing where the accents should go...

 Re: Languages
I think for English speakers, Spanish is easier than French because French has all of it's accents, and also unconventional pronunciations that are not found in English (tell someone who speaks no French to pronounce a word like "beaucoup" and they will not do so correctly).
BTW in case you're wondering, "beaucoup" is pronounced something like "bow-koo". Why did I find it necessary to put a spoiler here?

 Re: Languages
Well, if you know both English and Spanish, it becomes much more easier to learn French because of all of the conjugates that are in the language.

 Re: Languages
That would probably work backwards too, though. In fact, learning any romance language probably helps you learn another.

 Re: Languages
Without using a translator.... I (something), badly(?) I don't know very much (something that looks like 'he') and I don't like to speak it as well. Yep, yep. I've heard the same thing from my French teacher. We have a bilingual Spanish and English speaker in our French class, and he's breezing through it like it's nothing.

 Re: Languages
Teachers like to point out how important their subject is, especially by telling you how much you can do once you've learned everything in the class. The problem is often these are the same teachers who don't know how to teach and expect you to be capable of way too much... Its also weird the differences between grammatical structures of languages. Like, where verbs go relative to the noun they describe. Or all the extra agreement work you have to do in other languages; do you want to use "the (male)", "the (female)", or "the (plural)"?

 Re: Languages
Have you gone over direct and indirect object pronouns? I tried to say, "I understand it, but I don't know very much of it, and I don't like to speak it as well." "Il" can also mean "it" in a sense. "mais" means "but" the verb "entendre" means "to understand" I am too, in a sense...sadly, I need more practice remembering the vocabulary!!! I can remember the grammar, the verbs, the tenses, and the conjugations, but not the vocabulary!...but that's where conjugates come in!

I think its weird German isn't often taught in American schools, considering English is a Germanic language.

 Re: Languages
It's probably our third most taught foreign language, and it makes sense for it to be less taught than Spanish and French, since between English, Spanish and French you pretty much have the entire supercontinent covered, minus Brazil.

But Spanish and Portugese are close, so you could count Brazil in. Oh, and you forgot Antartica. Who wants to bet that Antartica has land under its glaciers?

 Re: Languages
It does.
But Brazil is so far away and German is still useful in Europe, so German gets priority over Portuguese most of the time.
