Ebly wrote:Zander, how did you go with 36? Okay obviously the three mp3s all sound pretty similar to the Amen break. 4.mp3, 36.mp3, and 292.mp3 are the filenames which (on a potentially unrelated limb) become 1, 9, and 73 when divided by 4. I haven't done any real guesswork yet (I will fuss around with it later), but if you have any hints you think useful or whatever, I'd appreciate it.
this one was so cleverly made it scared me.

okay, you have the first 3 mp3s, now find the rest.. there are 10 total.

okay- to find the rest of the Mp3, find some logical math-related connection between them, and continue the pattern.

Great job! That's what the freakin screen says! Ack!!! Any other hints? (Btw, This level is the Amnesia HQ level, the one with a picture of the Amnesia HQ, In which you are supposed to find the area of the picture. After getting the first part right, you proceed to a screen that says "Great Job! Do you remember the second riddle?" < that back there was to prove I ain't lying!

So, yeah. Hints would be GREATLY appreciated!

EDIT: Ok, I got the whole Guitar thing, but when I hit proceed to next level, I get sent back to the third riddle! WHAT!? PLEASE HELP!

The whole "do you remember the second riddle" thing is just another test. do the same thing that you did with the map.

Me. Since ive gotten farther then any person on these forums...

Also, on level 30 BEWARE! There are two different answers that will work for it, one way leads to 2 more levels, which you then get sent back to level 30..

Just a friendly push :P

okay, you have the first 3 mp3s, now find the rest.. there are 10 total.
it's a pattern isn't it

4, 36, 292,
1, 9, 73 . . . going by the simplest explanation first, that's +8 then +64 which is 8^2 . . . but that would get pretty unfriendly towards the 8^10 end so i doubt it
4, 32, 292 . . . again working with pure addition it's +32 then +256 which makes the sequence 2^2, 2^2+2^5, 2^2+2^5+2^8 . . .
but these are all pretty simple. Wish me luck!

. . . okay i'm surprised it was that easy.
now we get to the part of it that i'm actually good at, and now on to 37

Huh. That way works too, but couldn't you have just multiplied each number by 8, then added 4 to the result to get the next one in the sequence?

Zander, you wound me with skepticism! I didn't use any forums to get to where I am. If I did, I certainly wouldn't be stuck there, now. I did ask a friend for help on a few levels, but I assumed that was similar to, uh... What you're asking for now.

Either way, since you already know it's the Alberti cipher, I assume you know that the outer ring of the cipher is outright presented to you. You probably also already know where the message you're supposed to decode is located. And if you're been messing around with contrast and brightness on the note itself, you should also have the letter order for the inner ring of the cipher. As for the cipher itself, how it works is, the first letter you are given from the code message is the 'starting point'-- where you have to align the inner wheel with A. From there, you find the second encoded letter on the inner circle, and match it to the translated letter on the outer circle. However, the thing about the Alberti cipher is that it can move freely and without notice-- so, sometimes you will seem to get a completely random letter/number instead of what you should get. ... You should be able to recognize it, if it throws a Q or a 3 or something back at you. In this case, you need to take the first letter that went out of sequence, and use that as a NEW starting point to align from A.Knowing all that, you should be able to get your two word solution, and hopefully know what to do with it from there.

Well, there's no break between the two words in the code themselves, though you may have to find a new starting point for the cipher, within the second word.

I haven't clicked on any of the links here, but from what I gather, this is yet another "puzzle" in the vein of notpron, which came first. (Ugh, I hate those kind of things. I like being able to logically prove things rather than be forced to intuit them based on the absolute barest of clues. Even puzzles in the MIT Mystery Hunt, as difficulty as they are, are more fair in this respect, because they have to be in order for the Hunt to last no longer than a weekend. I still prefer pure math and logic, though.)

But yeah, I pretty much posted for the sole purpose of telling you guys what Amnesya and Ouverture Facile are both based on.

Intuition, for me, is generally a LOT harder than pure logic, which is why I like it. Eh, opinions.

I'll be sure to check out notpron sometime too.
