Male or Female

Re: Male or Female
I agree with ya, but we have gone far. Just over 100 years ago a woman couldn't be a doctor and now look. So don't let it affect ya. Also non of my business, but it sounds like you need to hang out with better people. Anyone who thinks they're better then anyone else doesn't deserve my time. Just my 2 cents.

There are some who say that one can't choose their family.
And there are some who say.... that they agree.

You are right! Why should I care about what other people think? If I'm happy with it, it's all good!Tatsuo wrote:Sleet wrote:I have enough reasons to think people don't see me as equal.
Well be that as it may you're pretty darn cool. Screw what other people think about you. All that really matters is that you're happy with you. As long you're happy with yourself, nothing else should matter.

No it's not, trust me. Your family will always be there, but that doesn't mean you have to like em. I have an idea what you're going through. Let me guess, they always speaking bad about ya or shooting down your dreams or something like that. Even though they're your family, that doesn't mean they're right. So chin up, meet some new people, get some good friends and have the life you want to live. Whether your family accepts that or not, is up to them, but don't let that influence the decisions in your life. Cause remember, it's YOUR life.
I know we're getting a bit off topic here, but Mr. Mods I feel this needs a little attention. Not that I mean to over step you. Just trying to help =).

I'm male. This thing had to be settable from the profile options and visible, though.

Kirby is male. That's a plushie (genderless) modeled after King Dedede, who is male.

Your gender isn't the biggest mystery to me.
How do you change Avatars so quickly?

IF you refuse to tell us, you have 2 options.
1. We find out
2. We vote on which we think you are, and then...

and Sleet doesn't mind if people find out his gender, she just likes to make it a mystery to solve.

What is: the male to female ratio or the fact that, according to the polls, there are more people who identify as unknown than females?

Maaaybe it gives evidence to the hypothesis that women are more unlikely to share their gender on the internet. *shrug* I dunno. Just thinking of things. Still, kinda interesting that males outweigh females by so much.ArcWolf wrote:What is: the male to female ratio or the fact that, according to the polls, there are more people who identify as unknown than females?

Re: Male or Female
Ladies are less likely to reveal their gender because they face all sorts of harrassment. Even here, unfortunately, some young ladies receive unwanted attention and generally are acted creepily toward.
As far as "unknowns," that may also encompass those who do not identify as male or female, not only those who do not wish to reveal their gender.

Right. And this isn't even necessarily intentional harassment. Often it takes the form of guys scrambling to court her, 'cause of the rarity of girls in these circles.diss & shun wrote:Ladies are less likely to reveal their gender because they face all sorts of harrassment. This is actually a pretty great example of the kind of thoughtless sexism that drives women away from online communities. It's not welcome here.Deske wrote:I think the girls who play video games on Xbox should probably man up a bit.

Re: Male or Female
People who don't think before they speak.
While not intentional, many people just say (or, in the case of online communities, type) what they think without actually thinking about it first. And, judging from personal experience, I think it tends to be worse online than in real life.
I think it's because when you talk, it's pretty effortless. You just speak, and you add as many details as you need to ensure that you are understood the way you want to be. When you type, it takes more effort, so people naturally want to say more in less words. That then leads to confusion, and what may have been a harmless joke/comment becomes something not so harmless.
That is not an excuse, however. When you say something, you really should think it through. I've made a mistake or two before that I can still taste the foot in my mouth.
Back on topic though:

While I won't name her, a girl I knew online apparently once thought I had a crush on her. Even though I didn't, I'm glad that she never saw me as trying to get to her simply because she was a girl online. That would have been awkward.Sleet wrote:Right.
