Favorite MOVIES (?)

I just spent a long time making this topic and then my internet decided to shut of for three minutes and it was earased. So this will be short. I Remebered comments from the director topic that naming movies would be easier than directors. Feel free to mention why the movies are worthy of your favoritism. So here it is. I'll start.

In no particular order:
Pulp Fiction (Bruce willis with a KATANA)
Hot Fuzz
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Munich
Shutter Island
Aliens
Reservoir Dogs
The Abyss
Starship Troopers
Shaun of the Dead
V for Vendetta (Hugo Weaving walking out of the flames looking like a zombie and screaming at the sky was incredibly awsome)
The profesional (The middle lagged horribly, but Gary Oldman's psychotic genius made the corrupt cop was possibly one of my favorite performances ever)
Gran Torino (Clint Eastwood's performance was hilarious and heart breaking at the same time)
Sunshine (2001 + 28 days later)
The Blues Brothers (Dan and John plus good music)
I am legend (My favorite book)
Inglorious Basterds
The Hunt for Red October
Saving Private Ryan
Jaws
Jurassic Park
Star Wars
There will be blood (I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE. Pretty much 2001 a space odyssy except it's about oil in 1898)
The Plague Dogs (John Hurt is wondeful, even just as a voice. This really might be my favorite movie ever)
Nineteen eighty-four (John Hurt again)
Signs (M. Night's best movie. I CRAVED THE INTENSITY)
Brazil(llllllllllllllll la la la la la la la laaaaaaaaaaaaaa)
The village (I don't care what you say, I liked this movie alot. It combined my two favorite things, history and mystery/horror)
The Matrix
Dr. Strangelove
Indiana Jones
Apocolypse now (The end... of our elaborate plans... the end. Oh, right, the horror... the horror...)
The Shining
2001 a space odyssy
Cube (Total mind f***!)

The Hunt for Red October
Saving Private Ryan
Jaws (though the depiction of the shark is highly inaccurate but its a movie :P)
Jurassic Park
Star Wars (the original trilogy)
V for Vendetta

My favorites, in chronological order, are A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut.

Hmmm... probably an interesting topic, given how i would be very very very very very apt to disagree harshly with some of those

Perhaps this could be a movie topic, for all things related to movies, like how there is a music topic?

Still don't know how to quote 2 things in one reply. Sorry.

I read Cormac McCarthy's The Road a year ago and loved it. I've wanted to see the movie so badly, and yet It never showed up in any theaters around me. Now I can't find it anywhere.
And also, I totally agree with jacob's ladder, i am legend, and hurt locker.

I don't know about what you people think but i thought The Hurt Locker was DREADFUL if you watched it once you saw it a million times and it doesn't get better either.

If you liked those, then you would probably also enjoy ‘No Country for Old Men’ (also written by Cormac McCarthy). If you missed the movie version of ‘The Road’ then you’re in luck, in this day and age you can get ANY movie online for free no matter how recent.

All at the risk of crashing your computer with deadly file-sharing viruses…

I BEG TO DIFFER. I paid to see it in theaters TWICE. I’ll admit it was low budget, but they did an excellent job of acting out what happens to our men serving overseas.

Does anybody else remember when Hollywood was actually capable of making films of guys fighting CG robots/ninjas/squids/whatever and lots of explosions that were enjoyable not in a "So Bad It's Good" but "Good Good" way?

i didn't have to see G.I. Joe to know it was bad I say shame on those who went to see it the 3 times 1 time is enough so don't encourage them to make an other P.S. Blindside is okay and there are some VERY awkward moments in it so don't go on a date with someone to see this

The score by hans zimmer should have won the oscar.

On this topic, some new movies for my list:

Cape fear (martin scorscece rules! Shutter island and cape fear prove that he has equal talent in horror as in gangster drama)

Jaws

Duel

Green zone

terminator

titanic

the abyss (already mentioned?)

hm... i just remembered that the movie that my avatar comes from is not on my list...

adding district 9

I know that I'm responding to this a bit late but, if you disagree with any of my opinions I'd love to know why, seeing that I love a bit friendly debate.

edit

Also, I just recently rediscovered an excellent movie called Below, made by David Twohy (also made Pitch Black of the Riddick Chronicles). Both of the films are great and spooky. Below combines alot of my favorite stuff, being about an American u-boat stranded in the Atlantic in 1943 being haunted by a vengful ghost. I recomend it.

Personally, my favs are
That new Sherlock Holmes (critics be muffins and cookiesed)
13 Days,
Dark Knight,
Cloverfield,
Schindler’s List,
Signs
and some more that I forgot to list, probably.

..although I personally found that Avatar was quite dissapointing. Just throwing that out there.

You're te first person I've ever met to agree with me on that! I too thought that Avatar was disappointing. I mean, James Cameron's other earlier films were much better in my opinion (which could be wrong) And also, who else thinks that signs was M. Night Shamalayns best movie?

I liked the Sixth Sense better, personally. It's been a while since I've seen one of M. Night Shyamalamadingdong's films, but the thing with the baseball bat in Signs... Kinda ruined it for me. :P

I loved Signs. I loved the characters (excep the little by, he was a bit annoying) the music was incredible and I thought that it was oveall a great movie. Don't worry, I hated the Happening. I'm not that crazy.

And the baseball bat... well, why not. I should mention that I'm sorta not religious and I STILL got all wrapped up in the main character's struggle with his faith.

You loved a film where the aliens were allergic to water and invaded Earth aka the blue planet? And that religious fuss was shallow at best and pretentious at worst.

Sixth is pretty much his only enjoyable one.

Oh, and attention: spoilers.

I didn't like The Sixth Sense either--they gave away the "surprise twist ending" at the beginning of the movie, for crying out loud....

I liked the IDEA of Unbreakable more than the execution, but that's it as far as his films go....

well, the idea that alien beings are burned by water is sorta redicules unless it was because of the bacteria in water on earth that hurt them and not the h20 itself- but that would be looking too far into it to proove my point. Anyway, my opinion still stands and thanks for responding :D

edit

also, adding all guy ritchie movies, Zodiac by david fincher, and one flew over the cuckoo's nest with jack nicholson.

Uhm...

"Finding Nemo" 'cause it's so good, in my opinon - so sad but so happy at the same time.

"I Am Legend" 'cause I seem to like sad movies; plus, the whole plot was really good to me, plus I'm a Will Smith fan~

"Gran Torino" because it interested me, I watched it with family, and the whole family cried. Good memories there for me.

"Fallen" because it is so intriguing - just the whole concept of it; the demon, how they have to deal with him~

"Wall-E" because it is a very good movie, plus M-O is incredibly cute and it functions quite well with just a bit of dialogue~

"All Dogs Go to Heaven" (and II) because they're such good movies. I wish I could watch them again sometime soon, though... I haven't watched them for a very long time~

You guys all seem to know a lot of movies; I'm amazed!
