Definitely, even water has its own unique flavour. Like warm water tasting somehow tart.
There was a moment when I had this sort of a local water gourd called labu sayong. The water stored in here tastes really cool, not ice-cold, even without refrigeration, and have this very slight earthy aftertaste that I like.

Too bad the gourd was smashed from an accident

What word people will naturally use is a regional thing, but everyone will know what you mean if you say soda.

This is me right here.
Actually, pure water has no flavor. You only taste the impurities.
That's the thing. Water isn't supposed to have a strong taste, because if it has a taste it tastes bad. If you're advertising your water based on a "great taste", that's a problem.

Makes just as much sense as bottled water.

If I ever travel through time back to the 20th century, I'll be sure to take a bottled water with me to prove I'm from the future. Nobody will believe me.

Ahhh I was away for 24 hours and this thread grew a LOT. Ahhhh.

@Sleet, do you want me to FedEx you a bottle of Cheerwine for Christmas? :P I would do it, I seriously would.

@shadowhaz- I hate milkshakes.... Does the vanilla ice cream with M&Ms (that you get at McDonald's or Wendy's) count as a milkshake? Because I do like those. :P
kurowolfe wrote:Crushed ice mixed with either fruit juices, fruit concentrates, cordials or powders. It's like a custom-made slush, made on the spot. I like to drink those when the weather here becomes annoyingly hot, as it hits just the right spot.
Here in America, that is called a slushie. Those things are amazing.
When you blend ice cubes and real fruit (with either water or apple juice in the blender), that is called a smoothie.

@Sleet- We still have "Mr. Pibb" here. :S I've heard of the "Pibb Xtra" but I don't see it much.

@shadow- Sleet's description of cream soda is 100% on-the-spot. :3
kurowolfe wrote:Well, there are ice-cream sodas here, does that count?
It tastes sorta like plain old soda water, mixed with vanilla ice-cream. Not bad, but not many people drink them, and they're pretty rare to begin with.

Just wondering though, does everyone in the US refer to Coke, Pepsi and such as 'soda'?
We've got those here, too. :3 You can take any flavor of soda and plop in any flavor of ice cream with it. We call 'em Floats. ;)
(I work at a traditional Soda Shop, this is how I know all this stuff.)

Also, the slang term for Coke/Pepsi/Mountain Dew/Root Beer/Dr. Pepper/whatever just depends on what part of the USA you live in.
-For instance, I'm originally from the northern part of the USA, where we call it "soda".
-Areas like Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, etc, call it "pop".
-And in the deep(er) South (where I live), a lot of people just call the particular soft drink by its brand name, instead of using a slang term.

Also, cold water. I love cold water! ...Well, I love country water. I can never adjust to city water when I go to a friend's house. The smell is a total turn-off, no matter what. :(

I've never even heard of the change. If this was a ploy to make me buy the soda, it was quite a mistake, as the charming opportunity to address soft drink as one would a person is really the only quality it has going for it in my mind.

@Beagle: Wow, that's quite informative. Thanks for the explanations!

I don't trust the water source here, in the city or in the countryside. The water needs to be filtered using your own filter system first, then boiled to really make sure it's safe. Before the filter, the water pipes in my house sometimes produces yellow, or even worse brown, water, which is scary (>.<)

Brent, I didn't really notice the change at all, mostly because I don't even drink the soda. I just assumed they were maybe different sizes or something.

@Kuro- You're quite welcome! =)

I guess I'm very blessed to have clean water. The things we take for granted....

RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:I thought the Pibb Xtra was just a different size or something too.
Yeah, it seems silly to call something [x] Xtra if product [x] doesn't exist. Why not just Pibb? If this change actually sticks, it'll just confuse the young'ns in 30 years.

I always thought Coke and Coca-Cola were competing brands, since Diet Coke cans don't use the Coca Cola name or typeface or design. They really don't make any effort to remind you that they're related.

I agree with Sleet on that. Given the choice between 7-Up and Sierra Mist, I'll always chose 7-Up.

While I haven't actually tried it yet I came up with what I think would be a good "Housepets!" Drink and it seemed appropriate to post it here rather then starting its own topic.

1. One Half Grape Soda (or Juice if you like) (Grape)
2. One Half Orange Soda (Gets the Pets Drunk Duh! :P)
3. A Handful of Peanuts (salted or not it doesn't matter) floated on top (Peanut)
4. Black Liquorice Garnish (Maxwell to stir the Drink and I can't think of anyother way to get Max represented in there if you have something better please tell me.)
5. Serve on a Tarot Card (Tarot)

Sure! ^^ You can make a lot of different combination of juice with milk. It usually gets a little more thick, but still awesome ^^ You guys should maybe try strawberry with milk for the first time ;3 Mix it in the blender.

The best part is serving it on a tarot card! XD Great idea, Ice! However, peanuts tend to get over all the other tastes when on juice XD

You are the first person I have ever heard say that. I used to like it, but I prefer the stronger ginger beer. Ginger beer burns because of how much ginger extract put into it.

I forgot to add Antarctica Guarana to my list. A Brazilian carbonated beverage that I have a hard time finding.

I like ginger ale if I'm in the mood and it's the right brand, so many different brands I've tried just don't get the right flavour. However, I'm always in the mood for a good Sarsparilla. Other than that, Chocolate Milk, Iced Coffee or, if I haven't had it in a while, I can down a litre of water without a second thought. Sometimes it just. Tastes. So. GOOD!
