RPGmaker

Post by angelusbr »

Does anyone else here use this program? I use the XV ace version. I just got it and I'm having some fun doing my own rpg. But I must say I'm still being beaten by those annoying event switches (I'm still learing how to properly use them).
If you guys have a complete game?

Well... I played with the 2000 and 2003 versions. When the XP version came out, and the RPGMaker community decided not to make it available pirated, I was unable to play with it anymore.

I continued experimenting with 2000 and 2003 until the forum I frequented on the subject finally admitted defeat to the hackers and was taken down.

I still hope to get back into it at some point.

Yeah, the 2000 version was the first time I used the rpg maker. I admit I had no idea what to do exactly with it. XD

I was lucky enough to get my version with "Don Miguel's adventures". It offered some not-to-bad mapping ideas (like "how on earth do I make a roof?") as well as a few useful coding snippets ;)

but yeah, they basically assume you already have a story when you start. It would have been nice if they had included a tutorial of some sort.

True. Now I can find plenty of tutorials to help me out. But, as for the story, I admit I'm making it up as I create the maps.

...it looks like we're the only two schmucks here who were into this. Were you part of any forum back then?

As for making up the story as you go along, most writers agree that if your characters are strong enough (and I mean as characters not as stats) they can carry the story on their own.

True. A friend of mine always told me "let the story write itself". But most of the story so far consist of jokes. It took me many hours to just create 40 minutes worth of gameplay (grinding to be able to beat boss included).
Another great challenge is to balance monsters and gears. I seem to make the monsters either too strong or too weak. My first dungeon is easy, but the second one is quite hard, but I managed to be able to beat it in my game test. I've even added my first sidequest (which is a spin off of a side ending of an horror game I like).

Are you posting your progress anywhere? I might be interested in giving it a spin

Make it about a world of medievial stuff and magic, and then the people from our world manage to enter into that world through worhole or something and start ruining everyone's day! :P
Wait.... this thread allowed for the posting of suggestions..... right?
20th century fox? Given that this is the year 2020, that fox must be dead by now. Sadface! : (

I'm telling you, hyenas ARE canines too!

Suggestions are allowed, and this sounds like a fun idea, but it doesn't fit the current scenario I'm doing.

This is what I've done so far (two tips: before leaving the village make sure you're at least lv 3 and at the mountain, don't try fighting the sideboss from the notes. He's supposed to be a bit overpowered to this part of the story)
