Something interesting that I read once. I think, from a psychological point of view, laughter is actually a way that your body responds to fear. I don't know if thi is true but it sounded like it could be. What do y'all think? |

I would believe it. I laugh when I am nervous or agitated sometimes. Interesting thing is that hyenas make their laughing sound when they are agitated. |

Certain kinds of fear, definitely. Maybe not, like, "oh gosh there's suddenly a spider an inch from my face" popscare type fear, but things like fear of our own death, or fear of war or disaster are things people laugh about all the time. |

My normal fears are blood and needles, I basically faint at the sight of them. My strange fear is of the movie Nightmare Before Christmas. ANYTHING from that movie makes my heartrate skyrocket. |

It's not that I don't like anyone who is a fan of that movie, I just can't be around when the movie itself is playing. I judge a person by their personality, not by who/what they like. |

I'm afraid of being near a dark room. But, oddly enough, I'm not afraid of being IN a dark room. Just when I'm right outside the doorway is when I get antsy. |

Might be the fear of something popping out of the dark doorway and snatching you, like those spiders that make holes under the sand and catch anything that gets too close to the entrance. I'm a real wussy since I fear people trying to physically hurt me, causing a bad impression, words that i've never seen or heard of before, a vast mayority of bugs, anything strange or that seems out of place, being stared at, physical deformities, strange behavior and being suddenly touched by strangers. |

Hey Kate I found this to do with needles I try to avoid needles like the plague. "Although most specific phobias stem from the individuals themselves, the most common type of needle phobia, affecting 50% of those afflicted, is an inherited vasovagal reflex reaction. This type of needle phobia is uniquely characterized by a two phase response. First, there is a brief acceleration of heart rate and blood pressure. This is followed by a rapid plunge in both heart rate and blood pressure, sometimes leading to unconsciousness." I'm feel dizzy if I think or hear about blood but not if i see it, I don't know why. |

Oh, also, this thing terrifies me to no end. It scares me so much that when I added the file I didn't dare scroll down any further than what was necessary to post, and I dread seeing the picture in my post.

If you've ever played/watched that game, you'd know how scary he is. Just waiting. He's on your computer. Waiting. In a file. I just saw him flash in my peripheral vision. I'm scared to sleep now... |

I have a huge fear of bees and wasps, and generally any insect that happens to be near me that makes a "buzz" sound. I also have a fear of blood, but that's mainly because I'm extrememly squeamish. I also have this really strange fear of being praised. No idea why. I guess you could say I have a fear of being better than others. I could list so many more fears I have, because I worry and panic so easily. xD |

blood never really scars me....its just a liquid that was once inside your body like spit....and other liquids....i have no fear of blood or broken bones or any other human ailments...it just never scared me...as a matter of fact it just makes me angry at what hurts me. |

Strange fear: open doors. I don't know what it is--I'm not afraid of open spaces, or of closed doors, but I'm afraid of open doors. I don't like to leave a door open unless I'm outside the room. The same goes for open windows--I don't like them. Not so strange fear: thunderstorms--although maybe it's less "not so" than I thought because I still can't figure out how anyone could possibly find them relaxing! Exciting I can fathom, though I never find them so myself, but relaxing? Quit pulling my leg! This isn't necessarily a fear so much as a "squick": the holes in the ears of women who have pierced ears. Those have always made me squirm, and any woman can forget about me helping her put her earrings in--I cannot do it, I'm too afraid of hurting your ears. Your reassurances that I won't hurt you will avail you nothing--please don't make me do it! EDIT: I too hate buzzing insects, especially when they fly RIGHT IN YOUR FACE. ![]() ![]() |

yea the first one i can understand open door fears are now more common today due to the fear of intruders of your personal space....(fear of a stranger/family member walking in.) |

My brother hates spiders for some unknown reason. There was a house spider a few days ago that he took three hours and three Isaac-force stomps to kill. I hate ants. I was walking down a path one day and all of a sudden there were ants all over my feet, just chewing it up. Scared the living daylights out of me. A few of them bit me. I've killed as many ants as I pleased after that. |

I can't stand the thought of passing a mirror in a dark room, and when I go upstairs with all the lights off I usually keep one eye closed so I don't see into my kitchen. I think the second one is more an irrational fear that I'll see my old dog standing in the corridor. But what I most fear is needles and operations. I had ingrown toenails removed a few months ago and I had to get a general anesthetic to help me cope with my fears but it took half an hour to get me on the trolley (whatever you call that thing they wheel you in on). I came close to feinting as it was hard for me to breathe and the tears billowing out of me made my head hurt |

Fears huh? I have acrophobia, though I was more afraid of dropping something that I'm holding down more than me falling myself. I'm afraid of ringing handphones as well as the sound of doors being knocked. Had a traumatic incidence that involved these two items.
Erm.... I kinda like thunderstorms, especially with big lightning strikes. Looks cool, and as you said, I find them relaxing. Given where I live, we get those a lot! Funny thing is, if I need to wade through a thunderstorm to get somewhere, I always say a little prayer that if I were to be hit and killed by a strike, let it be quick and painless. |

I'm not that bad with paper cuts. It's usually things larger than that my squeamishness starts to kick in. On the topic of cuts, I also have a fear of handling/using kitchen knives in the off chance that I cut myself. |

That can be very relaxing. Imagine sitting unter the roof of a big tent, just looking to the beautiful lightnings while the rain patters in the tent. That is a very peaceful situation. Just you, the family and the silence... Maybe silence is the wrong word, but what I mean is that you simply do not hear the rest of the world. ![]() |
