tv shows

Post by RandomGeekNamedBrent »

huh, odd, so many threads about specific shows or kinds of shows, yet I don't think we have one about shows in general.

I love Scrubs. and a bunch of other shows. Watching doctor Who now.

what shows do you guys like?

Recently I don't watch TV too often. Mainly because I don't have time for it and internet is all I need.
But earlier I liked a lot to watch first seasons of Doctor House. It was always aired on Thursday and we all gathered in front of TV to watch the episode.

House belongs to those shows that died in right time, because it was a really remarkable show, but I knew that sooner or later staff creating it would run out of ideas and thanks to that show was not ruined.

I used to love Scrapheap Challenge and Robot Wars. I haven;t seen either in a long time though, and I believe both have stopped running.

I'm mostly a cartoon fan, but I like the new series of Battlestar Galactica (new being a relative term). I still need to see the last three seasons though.

Is this a recent development? (Also, you should watch the original series!)

Oh, I know. Still sad that it's over. Scrubs was smart enough to end at the right time and try to force a spinoff instead of going in the original too long.

Don't get me wrong, I still like the show too. But, it seems to have become more entertainment based than actually testing myths.

I think discovery might be asking too much of them as far as how may episodes they have a year. It just seems that everything seems to be of a lower quality now.

And on the topic of House, they did end it at a good time. There was not really much more they could do with House without him finally not being such a jerk anymore. I just wish that they didn't have Wilson dying of cancer at the end. That was sad.

I've been watching a lot of 30 Rock and Workaholics lately.
And I can't wait for the new season of Key and Peele.
I think in Non-sequiturs

Lost is one of my favorite things, but it's not running anymore so I dunno if it counts.

Psych is pretty good, but it's a little too cheesy for me to call a great show.

And of course the Undersized Horse Sorcery Hour but that's got it's own topic

I think nostalgia is one factor, but I don't think it's the only reason people dislike Spongebob as it exists now. It basically became a unfunny parody of itself. Spongebob turned into this crying whiny kid who annoyed the audience more than any of the characters, and the plots became really contrived and the jokes just got a lot more cardboard.

It comes across as very manufactured. Even the animation looks really sterilized and plastic now.
texascat018 wrote:who's fault is it?

Stephen Hillenburg left after the movie if I remember correctly, so not his fault. Or maybe his fault by virtue of not being there, who knows.

Oh, fun fact relating to mostly nothing: Mr. Krabs' voice actor was on Lost a couple times.

That's him. He died- the character, I mean. The actor is still quite alive.

It's the fault of whoever replaced him. He was good, but he left because he wanted the show to end, but Nickelodeon didn't.

Guess that sometimes they won't decide to quit a good show right where it should because they want more money...

Yes.

The writers wanted out of their contracts; Nick didn't want to pull the plug because merchandise made them too much money for that; so the writers wrote the show bad on purpose to get it cancelled; Nick didn't want to pull the plug because it's still a cash cow franchise; writers, voice actors and animators stopped caring or continued the tactic out of spite.

Is that how i happened? I thought Stephen Hillenburg didn't want the show to go past the movie, but Nickelodeon did and refused to cancel because it made too much money, so he quit and his replacement wasn't nearly as good.

He could leave because he as the original property creator didn't have an oppressive contract.

But yeah, they brought in some cheap hacks to fill out the newly vacant seats and it certainly contributed to the whole mess, too.
