actually, I think I saw it hinted at that, while their the same actress, Oswin isn't actually the new companion.
I saw an interview where someone said something along the lines of "also casting her as Oswin" which I see as meaning they're two different characters.

I think it's been long enough that a double post is okay now, so here

Did you know there is a Doctor Who RPG? My friends and I are playing it currently, but it is kinda confusing.

Just realized that this deserved to be posted here.

It seems like a gimmick, but it is very well written and drawn.

Yeah its pretty good from what I've read of it so far. I liked them including the Fourth Doctor meeting the TOS crew which was really nice.

Should have been the Second Doctor:

Patrick Troughton's tenure matches the run of the original Star Trek pretty closely.

So, it's been announced and pretty thoroughly confirmed by actor Matt Smith and showrunner Steven Moffat that 11's tenure will be ending this year's Christmas Special.

I am the sad now.

and because of this I kind of agree

All this memorabilia is giving me déjà vu of my mates house. He has everything Doctor who, signed photos and a full size Tardis and all. He got on Blue Peter for something Doctor Who related once too, I can't remember exactly what.
He'd be in Shangri-la with all this stuff.

So who here would be fine with a doctor what's something other than a white male?

No, this isn't a race issue, just asking if people would be okay with variety.

I'd be cool with something other than a white male.

and Moffat could use it as a chance to dispel the rumors of racism and sexism.

When it comes to acting a character, like the Doctor (one who has been re imaged in many different ways), to me the only thing that matters is if the person is a good actor.

my mom also cares that it's a lesser known actor. so she doesn't like all the people wanting Rupert Grint, Ian McKellan, or Idris Elba. She'd prefer it to be someone who may be better known in England , but not over here

A couple of dark horse suggestions I've seen that tickle my funny bone:

Alan Rickman (Snape in Harry Potter).

Gary Oldman (Dr Smith in the Lost in Space remake, also the bad guy in 5th Element)

YES THEY'RE BAD GUYS! SO?

Also I'm fine with a non-anglo-male Doctor.

As long as it's a talented, lesser-known actor, I don't particularly care.

the 12th Doctor is being announced in a special on BBC One and BBC America at 2PM Eastern, 7PM GMT
Edit: my family will be dining on fish fingers and custard in honor of Matt Smith, and we're making real custard this time instead of using pudding

The 12th Doctor has been announced... it's some guy I've never heard of. Peter Capaldi?

I'm glad it's a guy I'd never heard of. I was hoping for a relative unknown

on another note, fish fingers go well with real custard, better than they do with pudding

funny thing, this guy already played a role in Doctor Who.

A tad weird, even if the original episode aired when we had David Tennant.

Woot! something i have a profound love for! XD
i found this awesome app that had the Gallifrayan symbols to correspond to our letters.
it works fantastically if you want to see what words would look like written in Gallifrayan alphabet, but without an actual language, all we get is GallifEnglish. lol

The Sisterhood of Karn appeared in the Classic Who story 'the Brain of Morbius' where they were immortals dependent on an elixir. As part of the story the Doctor reignited the flame that made the Elixir.

Why tell you that? They're in the prologue mini-episode here - http://t.co/Qj0QcVFKOm

Favorite Doctor: 10

Favorite companion: Clara

A Doctor Who thread

Since we're all about an hour or so before the start of one of the most hyped seasons of the show ever, anyone wanna start a Doctor Who thread with me? First question, who is your favourite Doctor and why? Me, I like Pertwee the best, tho I suspect that's mostly due to his introducingThe Master at the character's best. Other stuff tho, he was pretty much the James Bond of all the regenerations, and that was fun! Gotta love the way he blustered his way in, insulted everybody yet still was proven right.

So... anyone else wanna chime in?

TOm baker is my favorite and is because of him being the first doctor I saw.
I have to wait for this season to end to watch it. I don't have BBc america..

I don't really like doctor who. I think it's due to the fandom. Because does anyone just "like" it? No! Everyone who is a fan is a HUGE fan, and it gets tiring.

I have! Good episode. I'm withholding judgment on the 12th Doctor, though. He still has to get his momentum up.

Indeed. I thought it was a nice, solid ep. Only major problem I had with it was Clara's difficulty accepting the new Doctor.

Also, what an ending! Here's a theory: Missy is a regenerated Master!

that's a good theory, but I don't think it's the casebecause she said something along the lines of The Doctor being her Husband. I think it's probably either River or the Tardis.

The slapping Clara down as an in-universe replacement for the people who grumped about an older Doctor was a bit ham-fisted, I'll agree. I may be biased because of preferring the classic series, and being a pretty big fan of Capadi's other work, but I was very happy with Deep Breath. Nice to see a return to a grumpy professor type Doctor, he comes across as somewhere between 3 and 4 personality-wise, who happen to be my two favourites.

I have finally at long last discovered this thread!
Season 9 looks great and unfortunately I hear that almost every episode will be a double episode....so many cliff hangers!
On another note this thread my die because there will be a long time between season 9 and 10 because Moffa is going to do another series of Sherlock.
Who here has seen the latest christmas special? I loved it! It might be my first or second favourite episode of season 8.

In all honesty I hope that Clara dies in the newest season. WAIT DON"T HURT ME! HERE ME OUT! I think she has been a good companion but I think that she has become a little dull at times and lately she has seemed really ungrateful to the doctor giving her the privilege of time travel. The thing with Dany Pink dying and there relationship was well done but it seemed to ground the season to earth. However if she does die then I want her death to be unexpected but also tragic and meaningful, like defending the doctor one last time.
My favourite Doctor would probably be Sylvester McCoy and his companion Ace.
My favourite episode was probably silence in the library. Imagine after watching tha episode walking into a coridor and realising that because of the the two light sources you have 2 shadows.

For those that haven't yet seen this video I would highly recommend it, especially David Tennant fans.

And before I leave this enormous post here is a quick joke:
Master: Knock! Knock!
Doctor: Who's there?
Master: Knock! Knock!
Doctor: That's not how the joke goes.
Master: I just knocked 4 times.
10th Doctor dies

Yeh that joke was random, bye.
