Would Totally Like your Thoughts on Podcasting

Post by rickgriffin »

I sound like a 90s guy a LOT (duuuuude the 90s were AWESOME)

Anyway, I have for a long while been considering getting into podcasting but I still have some things I would need to figure out:

1) Where to post? What podcasting sites are actually good, or would I be better off sticking to Youtube?

2) How to record? And I really don't want to hear "with Audacity" anymore; I have a rather nice microphone and I haven't used it because I don't know how to use it without constantly getting either distortion from being too close, or being too far away to pick up any sound at all. If there is like, a website that talks about these kinds of things, and other things like more efficient ways to record/edit, that would be helpful.

3) What to record? While sitting in front of a camera reviewing bad movies is a thing nowadays, I do a lot of things that do not include video editing. (If I did, I instead have awesome ideas of what I could do with the Captain N or Legend of Zelda cartoons, and I do not mean Abridged Series.) If I just did a regular podcast, I'd probably be all eggheaded about whatever is on my mind concerning my work, either art or writing, but even then I don't feel like I'd actually know what I'm talking about.

I also found this HUGE podcasting guide. It may or may not have even more helpful information.

I don't really know or listen or watch podcastings, but I would totally listen/watch/whatever if you share your drawing techniques or talk about Housepets.

These two are what you are known for, right? (I would rather see you talk about drawing techniques though.)

But if you have something else interesting to share, I would say go ahead.

I'll attempt to answer in order...

1. You can post them to Youtube, I know a lot of people who do... simply because they don't have a site to post them to OTHER than that. But I can't say (post them here) because Youtube is basically all I know....
2. I think you should follow Cwitt's advice, you've already got that bit figured out
2. You can probably have a few different sections of your podcast, a bit talking about what's been going on in your life, a bit about which commissions you're working on. Maybe something about the comic, letting people know when you'll be off, just, basically anything on your mind.... and if you wanted to show off a quick commission in progress, like, a sped up video showing it from start to finish, and comment on it in that process.

But that's just my thought, I know guys who do podcasts on video games, but the concept is basically the same... mostly.

Good luck! Can't wait to hear it!

I'd take all my concerns to recording.org they have a very nice community.

I prefer goldwave for sound editing, I find it has a LOT more possibilities than Audacity.

So far I do not like Audacity at all. I'd really like something that is more intuitive when it comes to editing, but then again I have no idea what actually seems intuitive to most people who use the stuff

Well.. Rick, if you're on a Mac platform (which I HIGHLY doubt you are) you can use GarageBand and the built in mic... but other than that, I've got nothing for you

Well... at this point I think it's kinda obvious that you should do it... it's just getting over that hump of the capturing the audio... you can try "WavePad Sound Editor" if you have any interest in that

GarageBand is a Mac exclusive program Chaplin... sorry, that's why I said it was highly unlikely that he was doing that... I used GarageBand for a while at my house before moving and transferring over to Linux...

If you could find a discounted version of adobe soundbooth, (or have parents that can afford it, like me x3) then it is definitely worth it.

1) Some other guys at another forum use http://soundcloud.com/ to post a podcast whenever they make one.

2) Can't really help you here.

3)You could post statuses on commissions or whatever or give shoutouts and such OR maybe life/comic updates or something...

That is probably a little over the top for such a task.

If you've read the thread at all, you know what it's for.

Also, Rick, you should totally use Audacity. ;3

Actual advice: GoldWave. I generally prefer it to Audacity. *shrugs*

Keep your audience entertained for the duration of the program. If there's something you should know, people aren't going watch or listen to you "just cuz." People need to have a reason to do so, so they can spread it to their friends. I also think it has to be unique.

EDIT: If it's more unique, it will often get a better result. If the idea has already been tried before, try and improve upon it and make it better. This is practiced all the time in the business community (a perfect example being Google).

What are you planning on podcasting on?
iTunes, or something else?
