I just hope no birds attack again. I'm sure the badger lord is a force to be reckoned with, but still...

"Ah, we'll be all right," Peter encouraged before thinking as he loaded his plate. "I'll have to take my sling and some shot, I suppose." He winked at Charles. "I finished fifth in my class at shot practice. I only broke seven vases." He sighed. "Shame I was aiming at paper targets."

Peter waited until he'd swallowed the spoonful of Porridge before he replied to Charles. "Well I've never had a real reason before, have I?" He smiled to hide the nerves. "Don't you worry about me, Charles. I'll be fine. I'll be with you and the Hares, won't I?"

"Aye, we've a great big pile around from the forge. I think there's half an old wheelbarrow there too that got broken and never repaired. You might be able to borrow a wheel or something from that. Excellent. Thank you for offerign to help. I shall see you later in the day when you come to visit me. If I'm not in the cellars then just ask Evelyn where I am because she usually knows where to find me. She's my wife after all." The hedgehog tips Owain a jovial wink as he shakes his paw and then heads over to sit by his wife for breakfast.
"Well, that's our Ambrose for you. A gentle giant, so they say." observes Brum.

"Don't worry. I and my hares will keep you two safe out there." assures the Badger.
"We are indeed a force to be reckoned with. Why, just last season, a shipfull of stoats tried to pillage a village just up the shore from Salamandastron. Thanks to our hares, their attempt was short-lived and fruitless."

In the busy kitchen, a familiar figure made her way over to intercept Charles as he entered. "Why thank you... Charlie, wasn't it?" Nanette said, taking the plates off him, "but you really didn't have to, you know?"

Actually, 2 score of the best long patrol hares are going with me, but if Mr. Trevor and Mr. James aren't busy, I'd love for them to join me... Charles replied. He was like a dish washing machine, cleaning half the stack of plates already.

At that last, Nanette dropped a plate back into the water. "Peter," she said slowly, "leaving the grounds?" She stared into space for a moment before snapping out of it. "I'd better get you some food. He won't know what's safe out there." She grabbed some fruits and cheeses and tied them up in little bags and gave them to Charlie.
"I just... never had a reason," Peter protested, coming close by. "I'm not that bad am I?"
"No." She looked over to the Cook who was trying to grab her attention. "Gotta go. You look after him, yes?" It wasn't clear if she was addressing Charlie or Peter or even James at that last but Peter said he would as she headed for the cook.
