Parker backed up a bit, and threw his hands out in front of himself. "What? Wait, no! I don't mean it like that...I was just asking a question.... Sorry...." He looked down again. If he did that any more, his neck might get stuck in that position.

"Alright, everyone just calm down. People are trying to sleep." Summer rubbed the bridge of her nose with her free paw and looked at the cat. "I'm sorry I assumed you were a delinquent. We've been having some problems with feral cats and dogs in the last few weeks. We're all just a little on edge...I'm normally a nice dog, once you get to know me." She pointed to the Chinchilla in Dale's paw. "That Chinchilla belongs to a very sweet little 5-year-old girl...Are you going to be the one to explain to her what happened to her beloved pet?"

Addison stomped her foot and snatched Darren away- well tried to. She was only a kitten, and wasn't strong enough to take him out of Dale's hands. "Don't eat him! I want my presents this year!" Addison fumed. "And don't yell at Parke 'cause he's my friend but you're not 'cause you're mean!" she said to Dale. Addison dramatically turned her back to him, facing Parker. "Don't listen to that bully. Santa'll give him coal, I promise." she said knowingly.

Parker shook his head. "Addison, calm down." He turned to Dale. "Seriously, dude, think about it. We're making a bit too much noise. So we either need to take this elsewhere or you need to drop the 'Santa'. We're getting nowhere like this. Besides, I don't want to make Addison over there cry. Do you?"

"I'm not gonna cry!" Addison said indignantly, wiping her eyes discreetly.

Meanwhile Darren had been wondering what was going on ever since he'd been picked up by the cat and was about to be eaten. He finally snapped out of his daze. "Do I get any say in this?" he finally spoke up. He was regretting ever leaving the house, no matter how sadistic of a little girl his owner was.

Dale dropped the chinchilla on the ground with a stern look on his face. "Well, atleast i can burn coal! you have no idea how many nights iv'e gone with no warmth but this stupid torn-up hoodie! You try spending one night without your home and then you come to me and say coal is a bad thing."

"Umm, nobody said anything like that... But I'm sorry you have to live that way, I've slept outside for days at a time sometimes, too. My parents aren't always the best at remembering to let me back in the house." Parker stared upwards, lost in thought.

Darren climbed out of the hole created by his impact with the snow. He brushed snow off his Santa suit and adjusted his hat. "Somehow I knew you wouldn't eat me." he said, looking up at Dale. "You don't seem like such a bad guy. We've all done things we've regretted when we were pushed to starvation." He looked at Summer. "Isn't there something we can do for him?"

Summer looked with surprise at the chinchilla, then back to Dale. "You've got a heart of gold Darren...I don't know how you do it." she said to the chinchilla while rubbing the back of her head with her paw. "I don't know of anyone else that would be so caring to someone that was just about to eat them."

"C'mon, Summer...it's the Holidays," the chinchilla said, smiling.

Parker snapped out of it."I could see if my parents will take him in, but that's a big 'if'."

Dale sighed, looking down at the ground, he had nothing to say. You'd think he'd be happy to find a place to stay. His stomach growled a little as he heard the chinchilla talk, trying not to look down at it for fear of accidentally letting his instincts take over.

"Look, Cat...sorry, what's your name?" Summer said, taking a few steps towards Dale.

He sighed again, looking up. "Dale, but why does it matter?" he said, crossing his arms.

"I like to refer to others by their name, when I can... I feel it shows more respect toward the individual." Summer reached into her vest and pulled out a can of tuna with an easy open lid. "No one is forcing you to stay with any of the families here, Dale. You can take your time and think it over." She offered the can to Dale. "If you need a place to stay the night and think about it, you can sleep in my doghouse...it's insulated; should be warm enough."

Darren smiled. "See...no one should have to sleep out in the cold at this time of year."

"And Dale, if you want, I can talk with my parents about it. Will you help me with that, Summer? My parents tend to listen to you better than they listen to me." Parker tilted his head and smiled.

Parker turned defensive. "Hey! I'll have you know, that wasn't- Okay, it was my idea. But I didn't expect a wet noodle to hurt someone that much."

Dale looked down at the can of tuna, thinking for a second. "Wait..." He said, inturrupting the two. "Why would you give this to me? I- you don't even know me.."

"Summer's been that way for as long as I've known her. She's actually a nice person, even though she's not always that way at first. She also has a tendency to over-prepare. Hence the can of tuna she oh-so-randomly gave you." Parker smiled.

"I happen to like tuna," Summer replied turning to Parker, a little embarrassed. "...and I keep one on hand for when I get hungry... I can tell how hungry you are, Dale...seeing as you were about to eat a friend of mine...and I'd rather you eat this than said friend.

Darren spoke up. "Yes please... I'd rather you eat the tuna, too."

Dale blushed, but tried to hide it by looking down at the tuna. No one had ever given him food before, let alone un-opened non-rotten food. He slowly pulled the lid off. "Th-thank you.." He mumbled, almost eating the whole amount of tuna in one gulp.

Darren watched Dale eat the tuna, a bit relieved the cat had something, besides him, in it's stomach for the time being. "So... I don't mean to pry, but...where are you from?

Addison smiled up at Dale. "You look a lot happier when you ate something that's actually food." she pointed out, totally forgetting being mad at him. She grinned widely at Summer. "That was really nice of you! I would give him tuna, but I don't really care that around on me..."

Dale looked down at the ground, not really knowing how to answer the question. "Uhhm.. i-... i don't know... ive been surviving off the street for as long as i can remember... i-..." He sighed, starting to spill the truth. "I never knew my parents.. or owner.. or anyone for that matter. i think the first thing i can ever remember is.. a.. fire? and chaos everywhere.. and, this weird pin type thing was on my ear, where the bite mark is.. and thats it.." He did'nt want to go further, but he knew he had too if he was going to spend the night with them. "And.. almost every night i have these.. really.. uhh, how do you put it?.. "Far out there" dreams, and when i wake up i'm either in the middle of nowhere.. or in a different town.. Like, this one time i found my way back to the town i had slept at, and everyone looked terrified at me.. It was weird.." He finished, ending up looking at the sky.

Summer whispered back into Parker's ear, "I'm not sure, but I'm starting to have second thoughts... He seems to bring bad luck to the other towns he's visited. I kind of feel bad for him, but I don't want any problems caused by him being here."

Darren looked in awe at Dale. "That's an awesome story and...kind of creepy." He shivered despite the warmth of the Santa suit. "You have to stay and tell us more stories." His ears twitched and he smiled excitedly.

Dale looked down, he didn't like it when people whispered, it made him feel left out.. maybe it wasn't a good idea telling them his story after all.

Summer turned toward Dale. "If you travel as much as your story says, you must be tired... If only there was a way to get in out of this cold." She started shivering as she spoke to Darren. "If you wanted to hear more of his stories, my dog house won't fit all of us...I'm a bit curious about Dale's adventures myself."

"I have an idea," Darren said. "We can get out of the cold and get to know one another better in the cellar." He walked around the side of the house but it was slow going because of the cold. "Dad always keeps a spare key hidden nearby." He turned over a stone, and then another. After four stones he finally found the key to the cellar door's lock. "A little help please," he said, holding up the key. "I'm not strong enough to turn it in the lock."

"I know." Darren replied, boastfully. "My family is really into jarring their own preserves. Just don't break anything...I don't want to get in trouble."

"I'll be right back. I think there are some leftovers from a party my family had recently." Summer turned and walked back to her house. "Feel free to start without me. she said over her shoulder.

T.H. feel free to control Darren while Summer is away. I have class. -_-;

Parker spotted a table in the back of the room. "Well, could you help me move that table over into the middle, Dmitri?" He stopped. "Oh yeah, we'll need some chairs, too. Darren, do you know where we can find a few chairs?"

Darren appeared deep in thought for a second, then said, "Oh, yes! There are some folding chairs just inside the house, I can go get them. I will be right back!"
