Pet Friendly: Edge City

Early morning, the sun had just barely risen, the air was cold, and a thin layer of frost was covering the streets and rooftops of the buildings of Edge City. It was almost dead silent spare for a few passing vehicles like the city bus making its morning rounds, and sleepy residents were just beginning to wake up to the cold of the late autumn morning...some more willingly than others.

“...I am a shadow on the wall! I’ll be the one to save us all! You wanted-“ *SMACK!*A paw quickly landed the top of the radio alarm clock which had began playing, cutting off the lyrics. The young Dutch shepherd it belonged to shifted under the blankets of his bed before groggily crawling out and stretching. “Uuuugh...bad dreams...” He muttered as he adjusted his collar, and headed out of his room to the kitchen to get some breakfast.

Cruiser wordlessly got himself a hot drink and some leftover meat from last night’s dinner, taking care to be quiet and not wake up his owner. As he ate, he thought about what he could do today. He didn’t have any K9 training until later in the afternoon, and his owner would be leaving for his college classes in about another hour, so there wasn’t much to worry about. The young dog finished off his breakfast and decided he’d take a walk in the city, maybe he could find one of his friends. On the way out, he did a quick check over himself in the mirror and made sure his the contents of his collar, his tags, keys, and mini DVR were all secured, and then headed out.

“Oh geez, it’s cold...” He said to himself as he began walking down the empty sidewalk in the city. Cruiser began jogging to help warm up...

Marcus layed in bed staring out the window, he had been woken up by his parents alarm clocks and couldn't seem to get back to sleep.
He saw the dog from a few houses down jog by his window,
hm, wonder what he's up to?
Marcus jumped out of bed and ran down stairs,
well wherever he's going he's taking me with him
Marcus quickly turned and locked the door behind him and began running to catch up with the other dog.
hey, uhhhh, cruiser right? what's up?

Selina woke up with her head buried in a book: explanations of the supernatural.
She had been up late last night trying to figure out the most plausible scientific explanation for the existence of intelligent hauntings.

"Well, that's the last time I stay up late doing research... just like the last hundred last times."

She stood up and yawned as she headed outside, thinking that the cold morning air would wake her up a little.

She began walking down the street

Matthias shuddered as he groggily pushed himself up off the freezing cold floor of the dog house. The sun was still hovering around the horizon. Grumbling sleepily, Matthias slowly rose to a crouch doing his best to stretch his aching back in the confined space. He could have slept inside last night, but mom and dad were fighting again. He hated that ... but if he'd known it would be this cold in the morning, he might have decided to put up with it.

Yawning, he picked up the drawstring bag he'd used as a pillow last night and slung it over his shoulders. There was no chance anyone was going to be awake, so no getting breakfast just yet. Stretching, he climbed out through the opening to the dog house and walked out across the frosted-covered grass to the sidewalk. If he couldn't get something to eat at home, the he might as well go for a walk.

"Hmm?" Cruiser slowed down and turned to see who was tailing him. It was that happy mutt with that weird empty expression in his eyes. He had only seen him a few times, but went ahead to say hi regardless. "Oh, heya Marcus. Nothing really, I'v got training later today, so I'm warming up this morning for it. What about you?"

“...Sure. Just try to keep up.” Cruiser began jogging again, maybe he’d check out one of the shopping plazas when he got further into the city, the nearest one was only about a mile away. After not five minutes of jogging, the two dogs come up behind a scruffy looking golden retriever. Cruiser greeted "Good morning." as he passed by.

Skya had been awake since before the sun had risen, and done a few of her standard look abouts through the yard. She'd seen nothing out of the ordinary, except the footprints left by her gardening dad. Usually it was her mom that gardened, but she'd fallen ill recently. since she was done for the morning, she was starting to walk to a little cafe for a nice warm glass of... something.

She hadn't really decided if she wanted something warm even... But she was going there anyways, since that's where she'd go to sit and think about her morning findings, going over her parents list of things that the were going to do and guests she should expect to see, as well as goof off for a little with a friend or two for a few hours. Nothing was ever so quiet in the mornings usually, but she went on anyways, since she had nothing better to do.

Plamen was up with the sunrise. He stood up from the sofa in the living room and stretched. When he was done with the stretching, he picked up his sheets and gathered them in a small cabinet in the corner of the room. Then he headed to the kitchen. Gladly for him, his mom, Maria was up as well and had already prepared breakfast.
"Morning, dear, breakfast's ready." she greeted her pet
"Good morning, Mom! and thanks for the breakfast." Plamen said as he took the two sandwiches she handed him. The shepherd took his acoustic guitar and headed to the door. "I'll take a walk. I'll eat outside. Chao!"
Plamen heard a loud yawn behind him, which made him smile "Morning, Dad!"
"Morning, son!" the man patted his pet on the head "Have a nice time walk, and don't forget this." he gave his dog a small over-the-shoulder bag with a bottle of water in it and enough space for the sandwiches.
"Thanks, Dad!" Plamen said, giving his owner a hug and went out.
"Hmm, where should I go first?" he asked himself. After a minute off wandering, went to the close by cafe.

“It’s gone...I can’t believe I lost it...this is bad...” In a small café which had opened for patrons not minutes earlier, a single dog sat at the counter with her arms crossed in front of her. She had concerned yet distant expression as she stared down at the hot drink she’d requested. The young man working behind the counter didn’t seem to pay any heed to the first customer to come in, leaving Zaya to wander in her thoughts about something that was obviously worrying her. When another patron entered the café, the borzoi glanced at a decorative mirror on the back wall behind the counter to see it was another dog, one whom she hadn’t seen before. If not for being occupied, mentally retracing her steps, she might have greeted him...

It was cool inside the house, but, that didn't matter. It was a new day and also a new town to explore. Soren was from just outside the area and had yet to see anything of the city except the mess of moving boxes they had when they'd settled in. He'd had many weird dreams from that, crawling through mountains of boxes to rescue his dad. Now, one was taunting him and finally was enough to knock him from his sleep.

"Wah, box monster!" the husky yelled as he woke and suddenly rolled from his curled up position on the armchair and footrest to being on his back with his head hanging off the side. His heart was racing as if he'd just gone running across some fields or something. At last he grumbled, "I hate boxes."

There, the dog laid for a few minutes, unwilling quite yet to get up. After those minutes passed though and he finally began to actually wake up and escape his fog-filled mind, he rolled over, stood and stretched. His joints were a little stiff from the cool house. They had it set so the heat would go off at night to conserve energy and fuel. In other words, to pinch pennies and be green.

Within minutes, hot waffles and pancakes were heating the kitchen. It was early and he figured he might as well get started on food. After four waffles and four pancakes were out, he realized his dad's truck was missing from the driveway. Despite his own early wake up, Dad had gone to work already especially early for his first day teaching here.

After a few minutes, the dog took what he'd made, quickly ate and left the dishes in the sink for later. It was too easy to get bored, so, he'd learned to procrastinate on things like that so he didn't eat the newspaper or the furniture everyday. He then headed outside to begin exploring the city. It was a fairly big place and he wanted to know its every inch.

"Ooh, finally winter's coming" the Husky said as he felt the temperature difference and then continued on to walk towards the city.

Marcus jogged next to cruiser, letting him lead the way.

After a few minutes of walking, Selina saw a familiar dog coming her way. "Oh, hi Matt. You look like you slept in the dog house again last night. Parents fighting again?"

An empty bus bench, an old mail box, even a parked car. He eventually stopped for a break at a street corner. "Whew! No better way to warm up than this...hmm..?" Looking further down the road, Cruiser could see another dog in the distance making his way towards them, he was probably heading into the city too.

When he heard a familiar voice saying his name, Matthias turned his attention in that direction and seemed to perk up a bit. "Oh, hey Selina. Yes, I did, and yes, they were." He groaned, rubbing one paw through his matted headfur. "Ugh. I can't stand it when they get like that ... how 'bout you? Up late again?" He said that last bit with a tired grin. Not that I really need to ask. Heh...

"Um..." Matthias took the draw-string bag off his back and rummaged around a bit. Finally, he produced a small handful of change and a couple wadded-up bills. " ... I've got two dollars and 31 cents." He looked at Selina with a hopeful smile and a decent attempt at the good 'ol puppy-dog eyes. "Seliiina? I don't suppose you'd mind another small loan?"

Zaya took Plamen’s paw and shook rather gently. “Charmed...my name is Zaya.” She took a sip of her drink while glancing around in almost a nervous manner. "You'll find Edge is a nice place...I've lived here my entire life..."

Plamen smiled wider as she shook his paw "Nice to meet you, Zaya! Beautiful name you have there, by the way." he turned to the young man behind the counter, ordering a herbal tea. Then he turned back to Zaya "They said it in the brochure as well, but since a local is telling me this... I think I'm going to like it in here."

Skya kept walking uneventfully to the Cafe, until she burst in through the door yelling "ZAYA! I FORGOT WHAT I ORDER IN THE MORNINGS! AGAIN! AND I'M DONE WITH MY ROUNDS AROUND THE HOUSE AND ROUND-A-HOUSE-AND-HOUSE-A-ROUND!" making a joke about the first time she'd tried to say something like that, at witch she'd failed a lot worse at. "SO HELP ME CHOOSE SOMETHING TO DRINK SO I CAN GO HOME AND WELCOME MY OWNERS TO CONSCIOUSNESS!" She continued to yell at the dog as she made her way to a seat at the table without paying attention to anything around her.

Once she'd taken a seat at the table, she finally took a moment to take in what was different in the cafe as compared to normal. First thing was the other dog at the table. "Oh, I'm sorry, am I interrupting something?" was the next thing to come out of her mouth, as she genuinely felt like she was stepping in where she wasn't supposed to.

((OOC: Edited to be grammetically correct, and have a quotation mark I seem to have missed.))

The Borzoi smiled a bit a the compliment. "Mhmm, thank you. Not many people move here, for a city it's actually a very peaceful place, not much like how you'd imagine a-!?." Zaya flinched as she was cut off by Skya's rapturous entrance into the cafe.

The dog took a deep breath and sighed, calming herself. "Good morning Skya. I was just explaining how peaceful of a city Edge this to this new dog, until you arrived. You certainly made a good counter-example of my claim." She paused for a moment for another sip of her drink. "But seeing as you're here, I'd recommend the jasmine tea, it's very fresh this morning."

"Oh." Skya said with slight laugh, turning to the other dog. "No, It's exactly that that's my problem. This city is TOO peaceful, so I go a little crazy in the mornings. I mean what better way to go through the morning than getting rid of that morning sleepy feeling with something to drink with a side of boredom?" She finished before walking up to the counter.

After getting her drink she walked back to the table and sat back down in the chair she was in. "So what's your name, poochy?" She asked as she sat back down, staring at the new guy, taking a sip of her jasmine tea. "Oh wow, this is fresh!" She exclaimed staring at the cup now.

"Name's Plamen Karbovsky!" he replied as he took a sip of his own herbal tea. "And just for the record - I prefer to get rid of the sleepiness with this friend - he pointed his acoustic guitar." he glanced at his tea and then back to the cat.

Oblivious to the other dogs, Soren continued walking towards the city. He was sniffing the air and looking around to try and learn as much about the place as he could. After a few more minutes, he reached the street corner and actually managed to walk straight into the street sign. He fell down from that, but quickly got back up once he noticed the other dogs.

“I don’t know any huskies right now.” Cruiser just watched the dog approach at first. He was going to greet him, but before he could, the oblivious dog walked straight into the street sign and fell down. “Ouch...” He said to himself seeing the husky get back up, and finally say hello to them.

“Heh, morning Soren, I’m Cruiser and this is Marcus. Welcome to EDGE! Cruiser shouted down the street. His bark was loud enough to actually echo through the silence. “Big, quiet, sort of empty, kind of a weird place if you get to know it well enough, but enough of that. Your new, and we were just heading into the city, like to come?”

Zaya looked at the guitar Plamen had gestured to. It was a nice looking instrument, but something about it reminded her of what she was worrying about in the first place. Turning to Skya, Zaya began to explain. “Skya, when we finish our tea there is something I need help with.” The borzoi adjusted her scarf and began to look troubled again. "I don’t know exactly when, but yesterday I lost something of mine while playing downtown with CB. I...I have to find it as soon as I can, it’s very important to me. Will you help?”

"That my friend, is an anti-boredom device." Said Skya, looking over the table at the guitar, wondering how she had missed that. "Use it wisely young one, for one day, it may save your life." she said waving her paws in the air at the Plamen, trying to add an eiree efect. She went into a smirk before saying "Sorry if I'm freaking you out, I'm a little bit to far on the early bird side. Which is like a night owl, but for early mornigs instead. Never quite right upstairs before I have a drink of something." Trying to seem a bit more normal.

"Sure thing Zaya! I'd hate to see you not have something important to you. Besides, I don't always have to act as my parents Secondary alarm clock, although I do love seeing them freak out when I run in screaming 'Falling plane! Falling plane!' while screaming my head off." she finished saying with another laugh, and then took a drink of her tea.

"Heh. If you did that I'd REALLY be broke," Matthias said with a lopsided grin, and walked alongside Selina down to the cafe. It didn't take long before they were both walking in through the doors. Matthias found a table a few away from Zaya, Skaya and Plam and plopped down in a seat, looking around at the cafe's interior, and the few other pets that seemed to have already dropped in. "Ah... nice and warm in here..." He fished the few dollars Selina had given him out of his bag and drummed his fingers on the table. "I think I'll get something nice and hot to drink... oh, and maybe a muffin. Do they have muffins? I hope they have muffins."

Selina sat down at the table with Matt. "yeah, I'll probably get a cup of coffee. and a muffin sounds good too, I guess."

Hey Soren, welcome to Edge city!
"I was headed that way," Soren said, "so, why not?"

He looked along towards the city, wondering what the weird part was. Everything seemed like a usual city. There were smells of decay from a distance off, not much noise but this could be a city that actually did sleep, and smoke drifting up from some industrial buildings. Something was perhaps, not what it seemed.

"It seems like a normal enough place," Soren said, though he sniffed the air more, "quieter than other places but its still early. What's weird?"
