Jasper's tail wagged quickly. He liked fishing, especially with his dad. It was always fun, and he loved the taste of cooked fish, if it was done over a fire. The taste of smoke on a bass, or a pike was great. He paused as Isabel walked out of the room, and looked to Janus confused.

"Hey, Janus... who's Hubert? Someone you met before I bumped into you?" He paused again. Looking at the counter confused. That couldn't be it. Janus said he was the first one he'd met when moving into the neighborhood. So... maybe it was after Dark Janus dropped him off home? Or maybe even when he was asleep, and everyone else was awake...

"Excersist? Excorsit? Erm... how ever you say it, aren't those the guy's that deal with.. you know... ghosts?"

Jasper was next to Darren now, and offered his shoulder for the little guy to be on, it was most likely much easier to get around and talk to people if you were closer to their height, he figured.

Darren hopped onto the wolf-dog's shoulder and gripped onto the longer fur around his neck for support.

Darren shook his head as he remained sitting on Jasper's shoulder. He turned his head to look at him. "Not ghosts, exactly...usually evil spirits or demons, but now I'm even more curious about this situation." the chinchilla said to him.

Janus shook his head. When he turned to Jasper, he said, serious as he could be, "Do you remember this morning's fight with Dale? That was me. Hubert had set me free of my confinement in order to help you all. And no, he's not a demon. He's a species of ghost--" The moment he spoke the last word, the familiar blue shape appeared standing on his shoulder, like some strange bird. "*sigh* I am not a ghost, mortal. I am a complete spiritual entity. A *guardian* spiritual entity. Seriously, can't you living ones show some respects for our kind?"

Jasper nodded, remembering that well. It wasn't so long ago in fact that it had happened. If he couldn't remember, it's because he was in shock. Going to speak, he was cut off by the appearance of the small creature now on Janus' shoulder. He stared at it. Tried to take it in. All he could get was the familiarity of the blue from the flame that covered Janus during the fight with Dale. His ears went back, and his face paled. A ghost?! A GHOST?!? The afterlife existed?! No, he said he wasn't a ghost. So a guardian? Did that even make sense? An entity made of energy. His mind just... it would NOT comprehend this. He lifted a paw, above his head like a child might do in a classroom. Holding it straight, he never took his eye's off the little blue thing, waiting for someone to ask him what he wanted.

Hubert held out a small paw and shook Jasper's. "Honored to meed you, Jasper Notes. You may relax, I don't bite...well, I can't bite. You know, I'm *still* materially challenged." The spirit dragon bowed, holding a hand to his chest. "I am the custodian of this place since your wildest ancestors used to walk on its grounds. I have no hostile intentions whatsoever. In fact, if you want to ask for a favor, you must only ask."

Jasper looked at the paw that was above his head as it was taken and shook. And after that, the little thing told him he couldn't bite him because he couldn't touch Jasper. How'd he shake his paw then? The... it... his mind. He just couldn't take this all in. The spirit world in front of him, the 'I can't touch you, but I just did anyways' moment. Maybe it was only specific actions that allowed for a material touch? Material touch?! How was he even thinking like this? That was a term he thought he'd have a seizure for using, because his brain would explode from the pure geekness of it. He cleared his throat. Not sure what to say, or do. He looked to Darren on his shoulder, looking for something to ask.

His mind went silent, and he grabbed his locket. He remembered something from an old show he watched. He held the locket out to the small blue thing. His speech was very fast, but clear. "You're a ghost, right? That means you have contact with the spirit world... I remember seeing on T.V that an item belonging to someone dead could be used as a link to their soul... c-could you... could you let me s=speak to my mother? Please..." His eye's became watery, but no tear fell, the expression on his face was plastered with the signs of him using everything he had to not cry, and to keep his hopes down.

Darren let out an Eep, when the glowing dragon appeared on Janus's shoulder, almost falling off of Jasper's before grabbing the neck fur of his 'ride' and righted himself. "Whoa, now that you don't see everyday." the chinchilla replied, smiling as he regained his composure. "How do you do that, Janus?!" He exclaimed as he stood up on Jasper's shoulder. "...some sort of special effects?"

Sly decided it wasn't worth it and continued toward his den at a slightly faster pace, wanting to get out of the storm. "Sheesh, I've met blades of grass with more personality." the raccoon mumbled under his breath as he glanced back at the wolf guard following him. They'd gotten fairly close to his den, but he didn't want to lead the wolf straight to it. He turned back around to face his escort. "Okay, this is far enough..." Sly said as he crossed his arms. "You can go back and tell your leader that he better not be thinking of double crossing me...a deal is a deal, got it?"

Hubert let out a defeated sigh. "Things were SO much easier when mortals would take my presence face value... No mortal Darren, a special effect I am not: I used to live 300 full years as a creature of the flesh, before I ascended to this superior level of existence. Since then, for the latest 3000 years, I've been watching over the inhabitants of this place."
After that the small dragon turned to Jasper. "What you have been told from the charlatans and the writers of those sad excuses for tales holds a grain of truth: objects hold a whisp, a trace of those who used them. But if I tried to use psychometrics on that watch, i'd show you only empty images, nothing more than long-gone memories. Here, let me help you more properly, mortal. This is a favor I can do to you."
The dragon's eyes shone.
And a moment later, Jasper, Janus, Darren...they all were no longer standing in the kitchen at Lagrange house, but in a living room of an entirely different place!
Janus looked at his paws. They were...transparent. as if he had turned into a ghost himself! And Darren looked just the same.
Only Jasper was still flesh and bone.
"What..?" The Czech Wolf asked. But, before he could go further than that with words, a new figure entered the room.
A woman.

Kaylee looked at the flame. It was a pretty blue flame tat drew her attention, almost making her miss the dragon's voice. Her ears flicked. "What? Who wants ta talk ta me?"

The flame turned into a small wyvern. A mini dragon just like the ones in the fairy tales. smooth blue skin, a long neck ending in a delicate, pointed muzzle and two big golden eyes. A white crest ran along his neck. His tail ended up in a delicate white tuft.
The creature stood there, hovering at a foot from kaylee's face.
"I am a friend, Kaylee," The creature talked with a musical voice, almost feminine, soothing. "I have been living here for a long, long time, and i have seen so many innocents souls such as you walk through existence. rarely i met two...interesting creatures such as you and a female called Addison.
"I know that your heart is set for the one you know as Dale. Would you like to help him?"

"Meh... the cookies got stuck and and I did not take that in a good way, but going back to the subject," Dimitri opened his can of root beer and lifted it "Cheers" and took a sip. "Well, yeah... kinda... I was distracted and sh- er... he gave me a cookie and when I finished it, he told me 'hey, you know that you just ate chocolate, right?' and I really freaked out, because I already knew what happened to pets when they ate chocolate because of a friend" Poor Niko... he mumbled, "Anyways, I was like: Holy crap, man I don't wanna die, not like this! and after... lets say, three minutes, he told me that those cookies were for pets" Dimitri finished with another sip of his drink and added "I always have bad experiences with food"Dimitri said with disappointment "But I am lucky that this soda did not blow up on my face!" he joked

Jasper listened intently, but when he heard they would only be empty hollows, his hand collapsed, and he held the locket to his chest. He sniffled, ready to cry when the little blue guy brought them somewhere. He looked around, his heart racing. He looked at his paw, the locket was gone. He looked to Darren on his shoulder, and the Janus where he was. They were both transparent. But he wasn't. He recognized this place, how could he not? At the sound of foot steps, he hesitated as the women entered the room. It was all coming back to him now. Everything was in place. The old chair, the candles... the smell's of a family house. His eye's watered up again, and a tear or two rolled down his cheek as he turned around and looked at the women.

"M-mom...?"

The woman was tall, reaching about 1.85. She was tall as Jasper remembered her, the strongest Mom, his safe haven to protect him from all harm. Her hair was a rich black, like raven's feathers, something she had taken from her Native ancestry, just like her eyes.
"Jasper..." she said. She seemed...amazed at first, then most definitely worried. Fear, for a moment, overcame the joy of seeing her son again. "You too are here? Does this mean..?"
Hubert hovered to her shoulder. "No, he does not yet belong to the otherworldly realm, milady. Your son is here by my benevolence. He has spent all his life nurturing the dark shadow of guilt for not being able to save your life, thinking he could. And now that his existence is bonded with the fate of this community I protect, I believe it is time for him to get rid of the old anguishes." At a gesture of a clawed finger, the truth was revealed, and a pulsating black heart was shown beating into Jasper's chest.
The woman shook her head. "Oh, Jazz..." she hugged her son tight, burying him in her chest, ruffling his neckfur with her face. "My dear, dear boy... How could you *ever* think it was your fault? My poor pup; it was MY fault for being so stubborn, that night, and losing everything I held dearest in the world..." She let go of him enough to caress his head and his nose bridge.
"I never stopped watching over you. I never forgot you, just like you and Darell never forgot me... I watched you grow, my dearest son, joy of my life, I saw you risking your life for your father like the bravest of wolves. just like I knew would do: And that is the proof you are the guardian the spirits lead me to adopt. Jasper..." Again she hugged him, this time more tenderly. "Please, let go of the past. You and Darell have still many, beautiful years ahead. Live them."
Janus saw the ghost turning her head to him...no, not only...to...
And there he was.
His other self. His other self he had never seen if not in pictures and home-made movies.
That 'weak' self, with his kind expression, his body devoid of the muscular tension, so...at peace with himself.
"Mate and guardian spirit, this is what you two are," Jasper's mother said. Her voice was joyful and solemn at the same time. "Keep being the light in Jasper's life, while I can only wait here for him and my husband. One day, we'll be reunited, but now it's your responsibility to take care of them. Will you do so?"
Janus went to the two, and joined the woman in the hug, kissed Jasper's neck. "I love him like my life itself. I promise on my soul, I will never leave him."
Dark Janus stood where he was, his arms crossed at his chest. "No harm will be done to your son. I will make sure of that."

Parker laughed. "Cheers." He continued to chuckles silently while Dmitri told his story, laughing at the outcome. "Maybe your luck is improving!" he added.

A whisp of flame appeared in front of the cat, and a moment later it transformed into...a firecracker. A small cilindrical object painted with elegant, curly symbols, and a string attached to its top.
"This is what you need," said the fairy wyvern. "You'll know when the time comes. At that moment, just aim it toward your beloved one and pull the cord. Just remember one thing: this special gift is powered by your own strength and desire. Only you can make it work, not me. Your will and your soul are the triggers".

She took the firecracker. "But...how can shooting him with an explosive device help him?!" She yelled back, not realizing that she was, in fact, yelling until after the fact. She covered her mouth and gasped an apology.

Jasper's words got caught in his throat, and he looked down at his chest at the sight of the black heart. It had to be purely symbolic, cause even Jasper knew a real black heart was impossible. Even still, the notion hurt. And his mother... his mother... He was huged by his mother, and he had not yet said anything! He didn't know what to say, his arms held her tightly, and he cried. He couldn't speak, not matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't. It hurt too much to think of her as dead still. She was so close, yet... so far. His ears laid flat against his head, and his tail rested between his legs as he held her and listened to her tell him it wasn't his fault. But he felt so guilty! SO much pain...

When Janus joined the hug, he felt himself cheer up a little. He finally had something to say. Even if his mother already seemed to know, he still wanted to do this. He'd wanted to do this before he even had met Jasper. Introducing his mate to his mother, was the one thing he always wanted to do. Just to see that smile on her face when he told her she was in love. He wiped his tear, not wanting to do this while he was crying. Taking Janus' paw, he took a step back and quickly pulled him over to Dark Janus. He dragged the two back over to her, keeping each of their paws in his own. "M-mom... you s-seem like you know them already. TH-that means you must have been watching me and dad... a-and..." He couldn't hold his tears back. He held their paws together, with his below and ontop of theirs. He pressed them against his chest, where the image of the black heart was, and it lightened a little. "Th-they make me happy... like you did... h-he's a lot like you mom... he's sweet, and kind... a-and and... and gentle... and kind..." His crying was slowly becoming worse, and his head lowered. "... I know it wasn't my fault... b-but... I wanted t-to save you... I wanted..."

The woman just kept him close. "Don't my son. Don't be sad for what you couldn't do. You were a pup, and you tried your best when you warned me." She stroked his cheek. I know that if you had been stronger, you would've saved me, because that's what you did with your father, that's what you did for Dale. You *are* strong, Jasper. You *are* brave, and I'm proud of you. I can rest in peace, knowing that Darell has you with him, knowing that you have such a fine mate and such a powerful guardian..." She stroked Janus' headfur and looked with gratitude at Dark Janus. "Promise me, Jasper. Promise me you'll live." She touched her son's chest, at the height of the dark heart of his guilts.

Kaylee woke up from her dream. Her head was resting on Dale's shoulder, and his head was resting on hers. She was now wearing the blanket that Dale had placed over her. "Thanks, Dale" she whispered. She watched as the firecracker shone dimly through the blanket before fading away. Kaylee purred and snuggled up more to Dale, falling back asleep.

Locke wiped off his hands, "There all done!" He smiled, "The sign is finished, the boxes are unpacked, and everything is where it needs to be!" Parker shook his head. He kept his smile. "No thanks. I'm feeling kinda tired...I have a lot to think about...Good night, Dmitri." With that, he laid back down in the bed and started to doze.
