Things you finally noticed on rereading

Post by Stuff. »

So I've been going through the archives again, and I caught a little joke I had never seen before. Look at the ticker tape at the bottom of this panel:
Image
It's fantastic.

Anyone else have stuff they only caught while rereading the archives? Not necessarily just little details like that, but anything that you only realized, noticed, or thought of while reading through again.

Actually, I noticed that the first time I read through. It made me laugh hard.
I'm pretty sure that the topic of how the bite mark in Max's ear seems to randomly switch from one to the other and back somewhere.
Hhmmm..............well there's nothing in particular that I noticed. If I see anything I'll post about it here.

Edit: Upon going back through the first few strips, I noticed that when Fox made his first appearance in the comic he did not have his iconic bandana around his neck even though in the Housepets! Babies arc he is shown to have had it ever since he was a pup. Intriguing no? :geek:

That is something that I just took a look at now that you mentioned it! Maybe it was getting washed that day...

Yeah, you're right! It was first added in "Yeah I Only Read It Ironically": https://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/04/ ... ronically/

Prior to that, his collar was even yellow!": https://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/02/ ... w-and-the/

Fox's collar was yellow before they added the handkerchief. Since the latest design change, the collar itself has been brown.

I just took a look back to the original 2.0 design, and you never ever really see his collar under his handkerchief until the new design. In fact, the best I could tell is that it might've been part of his handkerchief. That's how it appears in "It's a Wonderful Dog's Life", anyway. And in "Dog Days of Summer", he actually tucks his wallet into his handkerchief.

Arc 19: A Sinister Shadow
Joel explained to Fido and his colleagues that his parents BOTH treated harshly their pets, to the point that they escaped and turned against Joel (then a kid who only wanted to help them), kidnapping him and treating him not less harshly.
So...what DID Joel's mother to deserve going to heaven?
Hmm....

There's always room to change in your life, doing something in your life does not condemn you from happiness, as long as you truthfully repent. At least that's how I assume the Housepets! world works,

that was a given, since we have King to prove that. I was only wondering what made her change.

I assume it may have had something to do with her son disowning her for animal cruelty that made her change. I got the impression that Mr. Robinson was a lot worse than his wife, which is probably why he ended up someplace where you don't need a sweater.

"Three years from now when you nearly drown"
So Rick Griffin had the Jungle Fever arc planned 3 years before it happened. Also there's a comic in that arc called "wettest fur contest", referencing this strip again!
Dang, Rick. Well played.

or he made a throw-away joke that the fans kept reminding him about so he actually decide to use it in an arc. I think that's more likely, and also I'm sure how a lot of things like that happen in fiction.

I don't think that anybody noticed it because they were busy screaming in terror at monster Tarot.

Actually I noticed it too. I thought it was obvious with the texting, since it wasn't much hidden.

i saw it, but i missed that it was karishad she was texting. i saw it more as her going "I'm so much stronger than you, that I can fart around mid fight, and still win".
Most important thing I've learned from D&D?
No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

Has anyone noticed that when the comic first started that all the cats had whiskers but since the new style change (or the one before that) they don't? And, for that matter, the whiskers were only shown on the side facing away from us.

I also noticed that in the first art version cats were the same height as dogs.

Yeah, that was quite a subtle one, and a testament to Jack's skills. It took two skims for me to notice that when the strip came out.

He's not a cat lover

Maybe because sleeping in that much was too cat-like.

That sounds like it might work, though dogs might sleep just as much as cats. Maybe it was cautionary to make sure the cats don't get to him?

The Rockstar Hawk probably felt that he would undermine their authority as the dog team's leader, so they threw him in the dungeon while he was asleep.

If he'd been awake, he probably would have already tried to take over and led the dog team to defeat.

I've noticed two things:

1. Joel is younger in later arcs than in his first apareances
2. Joel's cat is very similar to Keys

I think Joel looking younger can be attributed to the style change. Every character has gotten "softer" looks over the years. Every now and again I wonder what newer characters would look like in the original style.
