I mean aside from Res, this literally is still the status quo, even kinda ranks how much we know about each cat that isn’t Grape.

well, to be fair the series only has eight named (nine if you count tiger  ), non-bigglesworth, cats to begin with. three of which are well developed and defined, one is technically a dog in an orange fur coated spandex suit, one was a one-off who gets even less screen time than Poom, one appears to be designed as a foil to tiger, and the other two were working on a death-metal album last i heard.

seems pretty straightforward to me.

Was the one-off you’re talking about Jasper or Jinx? Also, while I know why were discounting him, is Ptah included or excluded from the total of named cats?

pretty sure jinx is the mouse, and the captain of the stupid hat club doesn't count.
also i forgot res, though i suppose he falls under were-creature rather than domestic cat now...

I checked and there was only one strip with Jinx, I think she was the cat with the bow on that Jasper flirted with one time. Maybe we’ll get a few more named cats in Max’s arc coming up. I mean, as little as Max has been expanded on, I think we all assume Sabrina isn’t his only past ex. Still curious how his ear got the way it is as well, he did setup it happened after Fluffy.

Jasper and Jinx are supposed to be references to Tom and Jerry, aren't they?

If that’s true, it’s a true shame the two didn’t stick around

Pretty sure that it is easy to figure out that the Jasper and Jinx characters are to the HP! world what Tom and Jerry are to ours.

Though there WAS a short that had a cat named Mr. Jinks, but that had two mice children named Pixie and Dixie.

Rick seemed to have found Jasper uninspiring. Supposedly his dialogues were going be borrowed entirely from old TV shows.

Tiger also was initially modeled after Garfield's cartoon gluttony humor, but he took off in a different series of directions. Jasper and Jinx never went beyond their one-joke origin.

...and I'd like to see more cat characters, too.

Tiger went from a Garfield expy to just straight up psychotic. Jerry BETTER do something other than toss him out of the house because if he REALLY injures someone, that WILL be on Jerry also as opposed to just property damage.

I'm not sure but the TV short you may be thinking of was a Hanna-Barbera short that had a recurring place in the "Huckleberry Hound Show" in the late 1950's. It helped to start - or probably did start - an explosion of television cartoon shows noted for their verbal humor, less-than-stellar animation, and appearing in the so-called "family hours" of 6-10:00pm. Previously, cartoons were relegated to Saturday and Sunday morning or Disney programming.
