Hey, I got a question.

Did Peanut blackmail Fido with the photo of him and Sabrina together to get back into the Old Dog's Club? When Grape asks him this, his response is confusing; he says no, but then adds that Fido "would have let him back in anyway", which suggests that he did.

No Way, Man!
Fido is simply NOT that kind of guy, only Bino would commit such a mean action! :o
In case (and I hope) Peanut would get out of the closed with Fido, I can imagine the poor lad being embarrassed to death at the idea of mentioning what he and Grape saw.
I'm actually much surprised that you asked such a question, having proven with your fanfic that you know so well Peanut's character

Fido let Peanut back in the club 'cause, quite probably, he didn't like any dog let out of that pack just for some petty reasons.

Peanut's character isn't too hard to figure out, but he was the one who snapped the photo in the first place. :P

Peanut happened to have a camera and he snapped a picture out of curiosity. It's understandable.
But, blackmail?
No way, nossir! After all, Fido has always been fair to Peanut, and Peanut would have no reason to blackmail him.

I highly doubt he'd blackmail Fido. Peanut has alot of respect for him similar to all the other dogs, and it may have even been magnified with his relation with Sabrina XD

if i were to quote Peanut now... "why would i blackmail such an awesome guy? :O"

- Where is Babylon Gardens? Is it supposed to be anywhere?

- Is Rex Fox's brother? I saw this on the wiki, but couldn't find a source for it. They're not even the same breed...

Probably some over-enthusiastic fan. I took that part out when I re-wrote the page.

So the animals have longer lifespans- Does this also mean that it takes longer for the pets to reach full maturity? And if so, around what age is it reached?

Also- How old is Grape?

Peanut is 4 (going on 5), and Grape is younger than he is.

I would've said that Peanut is the younger one. They way Grape relates to everyday situations -and her fanfic skills- suggest she's the more 'grown-up'. That, or she's quite the precocious girl :P

For just about every thing....

EDIT: Something occurred to me last night. When pets have children of their own, what happens to them?

Say, for example, that Sasha has poppies. What happens? Would she be allowed to raise them as her own, or would they be taken away from her? We don't see any pets on the higher end of the age scale, except maybe Rufus (Peanut and Grape would appear to be the equivalent of teenagers, if not younger than that, and most of the neighborhood pets seem to fall into the same range), and the only puppy--Pap--already has a human owner. Are they simply given away at birth?

Funny noone replied to this recently.

But a good observation i believe would be that the parents (or in this case, the parent's owners) make the final call on the pups/kittens. it's similar to real-life in a way i would say where the owners make the call for the mother's pups/kittens.

Case 1
Natural parents can raise their litter until said litter is to be adopted. In that case, parents cannot object to such adoption. Adoptions must be supervisioned with more care than we apply in our world, since we're talking fully sentient creatures.

Case 2
Natural parents are not allowed to raise their litter if their humans' economic condition is poor or not adequate to mantain said litter. In this case, social services would give the small ones to a shelter

Case 3
Natural parents are rich (as the Milton ferrets arc just taught us) and they can raise their litter without any interference.

Working an a world that is fantasy but parallels the contemporary world makes me realize how much people initially expect there to be only one solution to a given social problem.

Been slow for the past couple of days, so i figured i should ask another question.

When is Grape and Peanut's birthday suppose to be in the comic world?

would be neat to do at least a birthday arc for Peanut/Grape =3

Well, seeing Grape's fanfiction and Peanut having a crush/falling in love (call it whatever you want) tells me that they both are already in pre-puberty. So if 4 pet years is like 13 human years, then they'd reach maturity (human 21 years) when they're........ *does some maths* ~6.5 years old. Seems young to me :?.....

Maturity doesn't happen at the same rate between all species. It's still a very short process for animals.

Rick, I think some things must be made clear. I mean, this last strip was really funny, no doubt over it, but id DOES generate certain questions:

1) are all pets eye- and nose-blind?
2) if not, are all males evirated and castrated at the point you can't visually distinguish male from female?
3) or, as someone else suggested, are pets born in tanks, just sexless?
4) and there is a latest considerations. All mammals, like reptilians, have their genitalia normally inside their bodies.

Of course, being a PG-13 strip, certain, err, details can't be shown, but it should be implicit an animal can tell a gender.

why, thank you!
Hopefully, an aswer will be given?
You see, Peanut may be so naive such as not caring for, er, certain physical appearances, but when a cat dates with another (and I owned both males and females. Believe me, you CAN tell sexes!), then it's less believable that an awkward situation like in the last strip could happen. I stand my opinion until proven contrary.

Wow...... sorry to say it, valerio, but these questions are, well...... let's say you exaggerated. This is a comic with a PG rating, after all. But if you really want to know.......
valerio wrote:2) if not, are all males evirated and castrated at the point you can't visually distinguish male from female?
Even if the pets are castrated (and I doubt that Rick even THOUGHT about castration at all.....), it would still be possible to distinguish male from female, because, well, only the testicles are removed during castration....
valerio wrote:3) or, as someone else suggested, are pets born in tanks, just sexless?
I don't quite get this question. You mean, pets are born sexless? Then how are there males and females anyway?
valerio wrote:4) and there is a latest considerations. All mammals, like reptilians, have their genitalia normally inside their bodies.
I guess this is it, but TBH I really don't care about it :S...........

I don't get #1 at all...... nose-blind?!

The question were exaggerated, yes, but as to make a point. PG or not, this comic doesn't show sexless cartoonish characters a-la-warner. Decence makes it mandatory that genitalia are not showed, but characters are supposed to tell each other's sex even without being obsessed by it. This particular strip situation -again, although funny per se- is simply impossible, since (as grape herself stated once) 'they are naked all the time!' It's Rick's strip, but he should seriously consider rewriting the text.

I don't get #1 at all...... nose-blind?!
even if fur covered efficiently genitalia so that it would be hard to distinguish sex, well, most animals *do* have a more acute sense of smell. One should be able to distinguish male from female at a close distance even without diving his/her nose in. :? Especially if a certain pair of cats were hugging like that...

Well, it is more than obvious that this is true:
valerio wrote:4) and there is a latest considerations. All mammals, like reptilians, have their genitalia normally inside their bodies.
and also that pets are nose-blind as you say, since they distinguish males between females on small details like eyelashes, the behavior and such. You have a point with your first question, but I doubt that Rick thought or cared about that.

Or maybe he isn't!

and you yourself THINK you've been fooled!

Saying that, i'm now convinced Rick will no longer tell us what he really thinks about his art.

It'll keep the questions coming and the amusement plenty.

Just ask this: Why can't the pets tell who's male, and who's female? That way, Rick will probably give you a bunch of reasons, and you can ask questions about those reasons. You just approached it from the wrong side: You assumed some reasons, and asked about them, without knowing if they're true or not.

So, Rick...... Why can't the pets tell who's male, and who's female?

I'm pretty sure that an administrator can't do anything about an ad except to report it.

Oh, and, you can tell who's a woman and who's a man on the street, although their details aren't visible, either..... so, that's not reason enough for me :P.

Alright everyone shut up. The conversation I am referring to has been deleted.

Valerio, stop acting like an idiot. Seriously.

Pyro, I can block Least I Could Do from the ads. In fact, I blocked the author from bidding on Housepets altogether now, which is probably for the best. Also, about 3-4 hours
