2019/01/23 - Seeing A Flock Of Seagulls
Re: 2019/01/23 - Seeing A Flock Of Seagulls
Oh, poor kitty. Yeah, you run away a lot, and you kept yourself safe, doing all the possible... But then, sbam! Great move, Rufus! So, that good dog saved you. You'll have to wait more to eat, nasty coyote, and you'll need an heal too.

Hopefully after getting knocked down, that wolf won't get up again.

I was thinking more in terms of this chapter rather than the present. There’s no telling how old they are back then. They could only be roughly ten years older than Kitten Max which would put them in their late twenties or early thirties now.Gameb18oy wrote:She/he does seem mildly younger than Rufus. If they are still alive, they’d be pretty old most likely considering Rufus was up there in yearsfenrirblack wrote:What are the odds that Rufus and Coyote Sam have a history? I think it’s pretty suspicious that Rufus happen to be waiting right there with a shovel. Cartoon reference aside it strikes me as too inconvenient. I have a feeling this isn’t the last we see of Coyote Sam.

I can't be the only one who things that Rufus looks adorable in the last strip especially with the hay hanging out of his mouth.

He kills the rustic authenticity look, don't he?

Wonder if Rufus plays tennis? Fella's got a killer backhand!

Except that while Ralph only goes after sheep as a job, Wiley is incredibly obsessed with the Road Runner. Plus after hours, Ralph and Sam appear to be friends. Can you honestly see Wile and Road Runner being friends after hours?

I guess that’s the difference between being a wolf and being a coyote. Wolves are much more respected and treated with a higher level of, for the lack of a better word, love than coyotes. Example, you don’t see Miles being hit by a shovel.Amazee Dayzee wrote:Except that while Ralph only goes after sheep as a job, Wiley is incredibly obsessed with the Road Runner. ... yet. The one character I can’t ever see Rick doing that to is Karishad... and that’s mostly because I’d never believe you could manage to hit himfenrirblack wrote:I guess that’s the difference between being a wolf and being a coyote. I think that Miles would rather be hit by a shovel rather than be beaten and humiliated by Gayle.

No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

Out of curiosity do we want to see more of Coyote Sam or are we good with this? I kinda want more. He/she had such a minor role but I feel like we bonded.

Six of one, half dozen of the other ... although I always did like the old "The Fox and the Crow" comics.

King knocked out Duchess with a shovel two years and three months before Shovel Knight came out so I'm guessing it's unrelated.Gameb18oy wrote:So anyone want to join me in assuming Rick must like this game? One of a cattle dog like Australian shepherds's responsibilities is protecting the livestock from predation so he might be out patrolling doing his job.fenrirblack wrote:What are the odds that Rufus and Coyote Sam have a history? Re: 2019/01/23 - Seeing A Flock Of Seagulls
I got mixed up because they're not consistent. In the short where they trade off to another pair of workers at the end, they're "Ralph" Sheepdog and "George" Wolf, and the replacements are "Sam" Wolf and "Fred" Sheepdog. When the whistle blows Ralph is beating up George, and they trade places so Fred is beating up Sam.Xane wrote:Nyet. Ralph Wolf is not Wile E. Re: 2019/01/23 - Seeing A Flock Of Seagulls
That is because in their earlier appearances, them and their replacements were always named inconsistently. The correct names that are established are Ralph Wolf, Sam Sheepdog, Fred Wolf and George Sheepdog. The first short calls Sam "Ralph". And the second one (which is where I think you are confused) calls Sam "Ralph", Ralph "George" and George "Sam". Fred seems to be the only name they got right though he was only referred to that name once. Ah the magic of the 1950s where continually on cartoons is almost non-existent.
Re: 2019/01/23 - Seeing A Flock Of Seagulls
So their official names aren't the ones they actually used. But we know the cattle-dog is named Rufus, and the cat is named Max. I guess the coyote could coincidentally be named Ralph, but who's Sam then? Is Sam the Crow?

For the sake of consistency I think we should leave the coyote as Sam. No matter what Looney Tunes names were.

Then I vote we name the crow Ralph because the characters are named Sam and Ralph so since Sam is paired with Ralph, the other name should be used for the crow.

Guys, we never got confirmation on if Coyote Sam was male or female, heck, the coyote Sam thing is just a nickname that stuck to them

Re: 2019/01/23 - Seeing A Flock Of Seagulls
In their first strip the coyote did have eyelashes and in HP that normally indicates they're female. The name Sam isn't just a nickname; one interpretation is the alt text is Rufus saying "mornin' sam" to the coyote indicating her name is Sam.Gameb18oy wrote:Guys, we never got confirmation on if Coyote Sam was male or female, heck, the coyote Sam thing is just a nickname that stuck to them

I know where the nickname came from, just saying we don’t even know if they have/will have a name the next time they appearChampion Wallace wrote:In their first strip the coyote did have eyelashes and in HP that normally indicates they're female.
