do you take a while to type the posts in question? I get that if I leave the post screen open in another tab for a while before submitting

Sometimes. That could be it. I do like to think about what I write.

Do you keep profiles on individual members? If so, what's in mine?

We actually do have profiles for every single member. Here's yours.

well, that profile does keep track of any warnings a user has gotten and what they got it for, so I think that covers what you actually meant

Quit telling the forumites about this stuff! Next thing you know, they'll find out about the dossiers UM, I mean, the unplanned cookies we are baking for everyone?

I was wondering about the whole role-play thing. Is it basically people making up stories and talking to themselves, or do players talk to each other? Is there a forum for a beginner like me to go? Do I need to draw a picture in order to play? :?:

It's a bunch of people telling stories together, basically. You do not need to draw a picture in order to play, though many people draw their characters or have other people draw their characters. It's entirely optional. Make sure to read the rules and check out some of the threads in the OOC (out-of-character) subforum. If you choose to join a RP, you need to start there rather than just jumping right in.

To get a sense of how RPs work, the best idea is just to pick one and start reading it. An RP can have any scenario that the creator dreams up, and a lot of ours focus on the goings-on of a neighborhood somewhere in the Housepets! universe, though one is set in the 17th century, so you get all sorts of cool stories.
If you like what you see go check out the OOC of one of the open RPs looking for new members and see if you can join in. You only need a brief synopsis of who your character is (with more or less detail depending on the RP), and no picture is necessary.

What are the rules concerning the size and number of banner images in your signature? I've seen nothing definitive on it other than "don't break up the page flow" and the obvious "follow the normal forum rules". I know the one I've currently got is fine but I was considering making one or two others more unique to me and I wanted to make sure I was doing it right. ;)

Your signature will only allow for so many banners because there is a character limit at 250 I think. However, I believe three about the most we'd like to see. If you make them small enough you can add more, just don't go crazy.

And avoid stacking them vertically unless they're very small. When in doubt, take a look around the forum and make sure your signature isn't taking up more space than everyone else's.

Alright. And it seems the biggest ones are around 400X60 pixels so that would be the size limit, correct?

If your signature takes up more of my screen's real estate than the minimum post size, you'll probably be asked to change it. ;p

my inbox shows i have 236 of 350 messages, does that mean when i get to 350 i can no longer get PM's? or does it start deleting some? i'm confused (and kinda scared, i've had fun with pm-ing and don't want the m's to get deleted)

Re: Ask A Moderator

it starts deleting your older PMs, so maybe go through and delete any that you don't need to keep, or maybe copy them into a document on your computer

The private messaging system is intended to be an adjunct to the forums. As the same rules govern both public and private posts, you're welcome to continue your conversations in any relevant forum topics. Alternately, if you wish to have extensive private communications, I encourage you to install and use an instant messenger client (AIM, YIM, or Skype are popular).

What I've found is that you do still receive messages when you reach the 350 but the oldest message gets deleted so to make room fro the new one. I think there are settings you can change to stop receiving PMs instead of deleting them though...

I have a couple questions.
First off, is there a quote-stacking limit? (Whether that be Quotes in a post, or Quotes within Quotes.) In the RP section, I often see quote chains get pretty big. I was just wondering what the cut-off line was.

Also, my second question is to Rockstar. Are we ever going to see more of Vallerie Nightengale? :D

Well, I can't say for Raccoon, but the quote stacking limit is up to something like five quotes within each other. (I'm not sure the exact number, but the site will not let you stack them endlessly)

As far as I know, there is no limit to the number of unstacked quotes in a post. If there is, I've never seen anyone hit it, so I don't think you'll have to worry about that.

Well, there's a 60,000 character limit to your post, so that's the cut-off ;)

a quote can only be 3 levels deep
lvl 1
lvl 2
lvl 3

Quick question, is there a way to delete or otherwise hide a thread from your "view your posts" results? I have an active thread in there that I wish to not be tempted to post on again...

Concerning the PMs system of this forum, how come there isn't the Savebox? Is it disabled? It's a feature always present in phpBB v2 and v3 forums, like this one. Due to it, you can keep always in safe a defined number of received and sent PMs. And really, once reached the Inbox and Sentbox limits, settable through the administration pages, the older PMs don't get physically deleted, they're instead like hidden, because they're always kept stored in the database.

The only way is delete your post/s in that topic, so will result like if you have never posted in it.

Rick does attend conventions, albeit somewhat infrequently. This year, he'll be guest of honor for ConFuzzled, in Brimingham, West Midlands, UK. (I'll not be attending, but I'm sure that's not seen as a negative by anyone!) *giggles*
