Time for another fanfic. This time it's about Grape and Peanut. Enjoy.

----

Chapter 1

Today was a great day for Grape. She had a nice date with Max, she just got the new Pridelands book, and now she’s resting on her favorite spot on the couch with no interruptions. Nothing could possibly ruin this day. She was about to close her eyes and drift off to sleep when she heard a familiar voice.

“Grape?” said the familiar voice.

Grape knew that it was her best friend Peanut, but something felt off. He didn’t scream her name like he usually does, and he said it in a sober tone, something very unlike him. She lifted her head and saw him with a sad look on his face.

“Peanut, what’s wrong” said Grape.

“I had a bad day today. Can I sleep with you?” said Peanut.

Grape thought about it for a few minutes before she decided.

“Sure, but don’t drool on me like last time.” said Grape.

Peanut nodded as he sat next to Grape on the couch and snuggled close to her.

“Thanks Grape.” said Peanut as he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

“Don’t mention it.” said Grape as she did the same.

Well, this was quick. Should be interesting. Curious as to what caused Peanut to be abnormally down.

Funny thing is that this was suppose to be a one-off. But after some time, I thought it over and decided to make this a full on fanfic. Enjoy.

----

Chapter 2

The next day, Grape was in the kitchen finishing her Lucky Charms. Grape could tell that something was wrong with Peanut yesterday. Not even a bad day could’ve made him that sad. She had to know what was going on. Her parents had told her that Peanut had already left for a meeting at the dogs club, and that was where she was heading. But first, she made a quick stop to Peanut’s girlfriend Tarot’s house. She wanted to make sure if either something happened at the club, or that Peanut and Tarot had an argument.

----

The D'Angelo Residence

Grape opened the door and saw Tarot fiddling around her crystal laptop.

“Hey Tarot.” said Grape.

“Oh hey Grape. Please sit down. Can I get you a drink?” said Tarot.

“No thanks. Hey listen, can we talk about something?” said Grape as she sat down.

“Sure. What’s wrong?” said Tarot.

“Did you and Peanut have an argument? Because when he got home yesterday, he told me he had a bad day and had a sad look on his face.” said Grape.

“Actually I was going to ask you the same thing. He had that same look on face. I ask him what was wrong and he just said he had a bad day.” said Tarot.

“That’s strange.” said Grape.

“I'll try to see what's wrong with him. In the meantime, why don't you go and talk to him. I'm sure he's not busy." said Tarot

“I’ll try. Anyway, I’m off to the dogs club. Maybe something happened there. Thanks for your help, Tarot” said Grape.

“You’re welcome.” said Tarot.

Grape closed the door and headed for the club.

----

The Good Ol' Dogs Club

Once Grape got there she opened doors hoping Peanut was there. Instead she saw Fox, cleaning the floors.

“Hey Fox.” said Grape.

“Hey Grape. What’s up?” said Fox.

“Nothing much. Hey listen, can I ask you something?” said Grape.

“Sure. What is it?” said Fox.

“Did something happen to Peanut yesterday that got him upset?” said Grape.

“Actually, no. When he got here, he had…” said Fox before he was interrupted by Grape.

“A sad look on his face and when you asked what was wrong he said he just had a bad day?” said Grape.

“Yeah. How did you know that?” said Fox.

“That’s what he told me and Tarot.” said Grape.

“Maybe he’s just getting sick.” said Fox.

“I guess so. Thanks for your help though.” said Grape as she walked out.

“Don’t mention it.” said Fox.

----

The Sandwich Residence

Grape made it back to her home before it got dark and saw Peanut lying on the couch watching TV.

“Peanut?” said Grape.

“Hey Grape.” said Peanut as he lifted his head and looked at her.

His face looked much droopier than yesterday and his fur looked pale.

“Are you okay.” said Grape.

“Not really. I have a headache and my stomach hurts.” said Peanut.

“Maybe you should go to bed.” said Grape.

“That’s a good idea. Night Grape.” said Peanut as he got up and went to his room.

“Night Peanut.” said Grape as she could hear his door close.

“Maybe he’ll be alright tomorrow.” said Grape, talking to herself.

Chapter 3

Grape and his mom Jill were eating breakfast at the table. Grape’s dad Earl had already left for work a couple of minutes ago. It wasn’t long after when Peanut joined in. However, his face looked much droopier and his fur much paler than the day before. He almost looked like a ghost.

“Hey guys.” said Peanut quietly.

“Peanut you look terrible!” said Grape.

“Yeah I don’t feel really good.” said Peanut.

“Do you need some medicine sweetie?” said Jill.

“Nah. I’ll just lie on the couch and have a nap.” said Peanut.

“What do you think is wrong with him mom?” said Grape.

“I’m not sure. I’ll go to the vet to see if we could get a checkup for him. Just make sure he doesn’t go outside okay?” said Jill.

“Alright. Bye mom.” said Grape.

“Bye honey.” said Jill as she closed the door.

Grape ate what was left of her cereal when her phone started to ring. She got up and grabbed her phone to see what it was. It was a text message from Max saying that he’ll meet her at the movie theater for the new Pridelands movie.

“Oh Carp. I forgot.” said Grape.

Grape headed towards the living room where she saw Peanut awake from his nap.

“Hey Peanut, Max and I are going to see the new Pridelands movie today, so I’m gonna be away for a while. In the meantime though, you can watch a little bit of T.V while till I get back. Okay?” said Grape as she turned on the television.

“Okay.” said Peanut.

“And promise me you won’t leave this house.” said Grape.

“I Promise. Bye Grape.” said Peanut.

“Bye Peanut.” said Grape.

Grape closed the door and ran to the movie theater. Once she got there, she saw Max standing in line.

“Glad you can make it, Grape.” said Max.

“Hey Max. Hope I’m not too late.” said Grape.

“Nah you’re fine. We only got thirty minutes before it starts.” said Max.

“Okay, that’s good.” said Grape.

The two waited in line for about ten minutes. During this time, Grape contemplated if she should stay and watch the movie, or get back home and watch Peanut.

“Max I don’t this good day for me. I should head back.” said Grape.

“Are you still worried about Peanut? Come on you know him. I’m sure he’ll be alright in about a da-OH MY GOSH!!!” yelled Max.

Grape turned around and saw Peanut with a ticket in his hand.

“Hey Grape.” said Peanut.

“Peanut what are you doing here? I told you to stay at home!” said Grape.

“But you forgot your… You forgot your… Your…” said Peanut before he fell back losing consciousness.

“Peanut!” yelled Grape.

Chapter 4

Tarot arrived at the hospital where she heard Peanut was at. When she heard the news about Peanut, she got up and ran out the door. She opened the doors and entered the waiting room. She saw doctor passing by and walked towards him to ask where Peanut was.

“Excuse me, but I’m looking for someone named Peanut Butter Sandwich. Do you know where he is?” said Tarot.

“Yes I do, he is in room 10 to your left.” said the doctor.

“Alright, thank you” said Tarot as she headed left.

“You’re welcome.” said the doctor.

Once she got there, she saw Maxwell with a worried look on face as he looked through the door window. He turned his head and saw Tarot.

“Hey Tarot.” said Max.

“Hey Max. I heard about what happen and thought I could help. How’s Peanut doing?” said Tarot.

“Not so good. I more worried about Grape though. Ever since Peanut got here, she just sat next to his bed staring at him. I’m surprised the doctor’s even let her stay.” said Max.

“Mind if I check and see?” said Tarot.

“Be my guest.” said Max.

Tarot opened the door and walked in. She saw Grape sitting in a chair next to Peanut’s bed staring at him, just as Max said. Peanut just laid there unconscious his fur was still as white as it could be. Tarot sighed as she turned her attention to Grape.

“Hey Grape.” said Tarot.

Grape turned her head to Tarot and smiled a bit.

“Hey Tarot.” said Grape.

Tarot walked towards Peanut and hoped in a chair from the other side on the bed.

“Tarot, I’m sure there has to be something you can do.” said Tarot.

“Well I came here to tell you something Grape. I don’t know if there’s anything I can do, but I do know someone who can.” said Tarot.

“Really, who?” said Grape.

“He’s a witch doctor from out of town. I met him once at a convention.” said Tarot.

“Is he good?” said Grape.

“Well from what I heard, he cured a rabbit who apparently had the same illness Peanut has right now.” said Tarot.

“Great, just call him and we’ll be all set.” said Grape.

“Now Grape, I don’t if he’s interested in helping. He’s always busy, and I haven’t spook to him in years.” said Tarot.

“But we have to do something! I don’t know how long Peanut’s gonna make it! shouted Grape as tears started streaming down her face.

“Okay, okay, calm down. I’ll get on the phone tonight and see if he’s available. tomorrow.” said Tarot.

“Alright.” said Grape as she wiped the tears from her face.

“Well I better get going. I’ll tell you if he’s available or not tomorrow.” said Tarot as she jumped out of her chair and headed to the door.

Grape turned her head as Tarot open the door and saw Max waving goodbye.

“Bye Grape.” said both Max and Tarot.

“Bye guys.” said Grape as she turned her head back to Peanut. “Hang in there buddy. Help is on the way.”

Sorry this took so long guys.

Chapter 5

The next day, Grape went back to the hospital and headed to Peanut’s as quickly as she could. She opened the door, only to be sadden when she Peanut still unconscious in bed. Grape sat in a chair that was next to Peanut’s bed and for a good five minutes, she kept looking at the door, hoping Tarot and the person she said was going to help out come in real soon. Just then, the door opened, and a large dog with reddish-brown fur was standing right in front of her.

“Hello. You must be Grape.” said the dog.

“Can I help you?” said Grape.

Before he was about to say anything, Tarot appeared right at his side.

“Grape, this is Anthony, a Leonberger from Africa, he’s the witch doctor I told you about.” said Tarot.

“Please to meet you, Grape.” said Anthony as he offered his hand.

“Same to you.” said Grape as she shock Anthony’s hand.

“I supposed this sick dog in the bed right there is Peanut, am I right?” said Anthony as he walked towards Peanut’s side.

“Yes.” said Grape.

“And how long has he been like this?” said Anthony.

“Since yesterday.” said Grape.

Anthony examined Peanut for ten minutes.

“So what’s wrong with him?” said Grape.

“I believe he has something that I like to call the Osiris disease.” said Anthony.

“The what?” said Grape.

“It’s an extremely rare disease that causes the victims skin to turn pale white and make them weaker and weaker, and in just a few weeks, the victims dies from it.” said Tarot.

“WHAT! We can’t let him die! He’s my best friend!” yelled Grape.

“Take it easy, Grape. There is a cure for it.” said Anthony.

“There is?” said Grape.

“Yes. Luckily when Tarot here told me about this, I’ve managed to get the ingredients for it just in case if it was the Osiris disease.” said Anthony.

“Great, let’s make it right now.” said Grape.

“Grape, don’t get too excited. Making stuff like this take time.” said Tarot.

“But there’s no need to worry either. A cure for the Osiris disease usually takes a day to make. So hopefully, we’ll probably have it by tomorrow. Tarot, maybe you should come with me and help out on making the cure.” said Anthony.

“Sure thing.” said Tarot.

“And what about me?” said Grape.

“Just make sure nothing happens to Peanut during this time.” said Anthony.

“Alright. Bye guys.” said Grape.

“Bye Grape.” said Anthony and Tarot as they headed out the door.

“What did I tell ya, Peanut? Things are going to get better.” said Grape as she sat back in the chair and rested her head on Peanut’s bed.

----

On a side note, the Osiris disease is not a real disease.

Chapter 6

Once Tarot brought Anthony to her house, the first thing they did was try to find the ingredients the cure. But no matter how much they try, nothing seemed to work.

“Would you guys like something to drink.” said Sabrina holding two glasses of lemonade.

“Why yes I would. Thank you ma'am.” said Anthony as he picked up one of the glasses.

“I'm really on the verge of giving up.” said Tarot

“Come on Tarot, I'm sure you'll find it.“ said Sabrina.

“But what else is there to do? We tried everything. Nothing work.” said Tarot.

I was then that Tarot saw Anthony with a weird look on his face. Almost as if he spotted something.

“Something wrong, Anthony?” said Tarot.

“What is that sticking out on one of your shelves?” said Anthony.

Tarot Turned around and saw what he was looking at.

“Oh that's a new book of spells I got last week. Why do you ask?” said Tarot.

“Bring it down. Maybe it has what we're looking for.” said Anthony.

Tarot got up and grabbed the book from shelf and placed it between her and Anthony. They read threw the book for a few minutes until they finally found the ingredients.

“You have got to be kidding me.” said Tarot.

“Hey, it's worth a try.” said Anthony

----

The next day

After breakfast, Grape did as she was told and headed toward the hospital and made it to Peanut's room. She sat down next to him and for the next thirty minutes she kept looking back and forth between the door and Peanut. Things went quiet until the door opened, revealing Anthony and Tarot.

“Ah, glad to see you're here Grape. Took us all night but we have the cure.” said Anthony.

“Turns out all we need was a mixture of sour cream and lemonade.” said Tarot.

"Are you sure this is going to work?" said Grape.

"Trust me, I've done this before." said Anthony.

Anthony walked towards Peanut and poured the cure into his mouth. The three waited five minutes to see if it would work. Just then Peanut's fur began to take color again and his eyes star to slowly open.

"....Hey guys. What's going on?" said Peanut groggily.

"PEANUT!!!" yelled Grape as she threw her arms around her best friend, giving him the biggest hug she ever gave.

"I told you it would work ." said Anthony.

"Who are you?" said Peanut.

"Ah yes, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Anthony. I was called in by Tarot here to make a cure for your sickness." said Anthony.

"Sickness? Wait, what exactly happen to me." said Peanut.

"Peanut, Do you not remember anything at all?" said Tarot.

"All I remember was at the movie theater so I could give something to Grape, and then everything went black." said Peanut

"I'll tell you later It's a long story." said Grape.

"Well, I better get going. I have an appointment about dress codes in my country and I don't wanna be late." said Anthony.

"Alright, see ya Anthony. I'll call you if something like this happens again." said Tarot.

"Thank you for everything." said Grape.

"Don't mention it Grape. See you guys later." said Anthony as he walked out the door.

“So who was he again?” said Peanut.

Grape and Tarot looked at Peanut as they started to giggle.

Sorry this took so long guys.

Alright, this felt too easy. That leads to two probable routes in my head; the cure didn't entirely work and he relapses, or this was simply the start of a larger story about Peanut's bond with Grape, hence the title.

Also, wow, lemon juice and sour cream? Think I've done that once at work.

Chapter 7

“Hello? Is anyone here?” said Max as he opened the door to the Sandwich house.

He walked right in and saw no one. He did however heard some snoring noises from the couch in the living room. He walked towards the couch and saw Grape sleeping.

“Hey Grape.” said Max.

Grape lifted her head and saw her boyfriend right in front of her.

“Oh hey Maxie. How's it going?” said Grape.

“Nothing much. Heard that Peanut's been getting better.” said Max.

“Yup. Looks like everything is back to normal.” said Grape.

“Where is everyone anyway?” said Max.

“Mom and Dad are at work, and Peanut's out celebrating with Tarot. Speaking on which, how about you and I celebrate with some Pridelands?” said Grape.

“You don't need an answer for that, sweetheart.” said Max.

Just as he was about to sit down, the phone rang in the kitchen.

“Can you get that? I'm too tired.” said Grape.

“Sure thing.” said Max as he walked towards the phone and picked it up.

“Hello?... Oh hey Tarot, how's it going?... Yeah she's here... Yeah I'll get her... Hey Grape, it's for you.” said. Max.

Grape got up and picked up the phone from Max.

“Hello?” said Grape.

“Grape, you have to come my house right now!” said Tarot.

“But why? I thought you and Peanut were celebrating.” said Grape.

“We were but...” said Tarot before she was interupred.

“SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!” yelled Peanut from the other end of the line.

“Was that Peanut yelling? What's going on?” said Grape.

“Grape... Peanut's going blind.” said Tarot.

“BLIND?” yelled Grape.

“Yes blind. Now look, I just called Anthony about this and he's on his way here right now. Come to my house as quick as possible!” said Tarot.

Grape hung up the phone as quickly as she could.

“Max we have to go to Tarot's house right now!” yelled Grape.

“What's going on?” said Max.

“I'll explain along the way!” said Grape as she grabbed Max's arm and ran out the door.

----

The D'Angelo Residence

“We're here.” said Grape .as opened the door and saw Tarot, Sabrina, and Anthony trying to calm down Peanut, who's eyes were pure white and was panicking like a mad man.

“Grape? Is that you?” said Peanut.

“Yes Peanut it's me.” said Grape as she walked towards Peanut and wrapped her arms around him, comforting him.

“What's going on? Grape told me the antidote worked?” said Max.

“Well we think it comes with a side effect.” said Sabrina.

“Is it permanent?” said Peanut.

“I don't know. I think I'm gonna have to take Peanut to my dad in Africa. Maybe he knows what to do.” said Anthony.

“I'm coming with you!” said Grape.

“Grape, I think it's best that Peanut and I....” said Anthony before she was interrupted.

“He's my friend, I'm gonna see if he makes it threw, and nothing is gonna stop me!” said Grape.

“Alright! Alright! Calm down. You can come with us. But remember to be careful. The area were I live is very dangerous.” said Anthony.

“I'm coming too. You guys might need my help along the way.” said Tarot.

“Max, Sabrina, you stay here. Tell everyone we're just taking a hike to the woods.” said Grape.

“Got it.” said both Max and Sabrina.

“Then let's get going. Onward to Africa!” said Anthony.

And with a flash a light. The four were gone.

Chapter 8

In just one second, the four pets appeared in what seems to be a neighborhood.

“Alright, here we are. That's my house right there” said Anthony as he pointed out a house that was all green.

“You sure your dad will help us?” questioned Peanut.

“Don't worry. My dad Jeremy is like the nicest guy you'll ever meet. I'm sure he can help us.” said Anthony.

Anthony knocked on the door. The door opened and revealed a very tall man.

“Hey Anthony. You're home early.” said Jeremy.

“Dad we have an emergency. Something is wrong this dog right here.” yelled Anthony as he showed Peanut to Jeremy.

“Well come on in and I'll see what I can do.” said Jeremy as the four pets entered the house. “So what seems to be the problem?”

“My friend Peanut here is going blind sir.” said Grape.

“Oh dear.” said Jeremy. “Well give me the full story. What exactly happened?”

“Well at first, he had the Osiris disease. We gave him what we thought was a cure, but it seems it had some sort of side effect.” said Anthony.

“Well what did you gave him?” said Jeremy.

“It was a combination of sour cream and lemonade.” said Tarot.

“I see.” said Jeremy. “Well what you gave him wasn't exactly a cure, it's something that reverts the disease it back into a more curable state. The blindness is one of the symptoms of said disease.”

“Is there something that will fully cure it?” asked Peanut.

“Thankfully yes.” answered Jeremy. “Like I said, the disease is at a more curable state, so we should be able to find an antidote in time. but it won't be easy.”

“What do you mean?” questioned Tarot.

“One the ingredients is that of a flower that's somewhere in the forest. Getting this flower could take hours and it'll only a matter of time before the disease comes back. I'm also going to need some help.”

“I'll go!” yelled Grape.

“Alright, you'll need to wear this though.” said Jeremy as he got out a hat. “The climate is extremely humid.”

Grape nodded as she put the hat on.

“We'll watch Peanut while you two are gone.” said Tarot.

“Good idea. Is something happens, make sure you call us. Alright?” said Jeremy as he grabbed his phone.

Tarot and Anthony nodded.

Grape gave Peanut a hug before she and Jeremy set off for their goal.

----

Finally got this chapter done.

Post Re: Always There
Well, good that the disease is much more treatable, though it's odd to consider blindness an "improvement." But if it reverts to the full disease, can the partial-cure still be used to make it less dangerous?

Post Re: Always There
Hey guys. Sorry there hasn't been an update on this fanfic, but there's something that I've been flip flopping on for awhile now. You see if I can be honest, after chapter 6, I feel this fanfic has gone off the rails and I've been thinking about not just making edits on chapter 6, but the also changing some stuff in the chapters that come after. But I'm not sure if I should make the changes on this thread, or just make a new thread and start fresh. What do you guys think I should do?

I guess if the changes are minor you can rework the thread here but if the changes are considered major, like maybe a paragraph's worth of differences in each chapter, then i suggest a new thread.

Side note:
poor Peanut, it must be devastating for an artist of all things to go blind. How will he make Spot comics now?
