Fan Fiction Charity

I've sat on this idea ever since reading All The Kings Men but i'm not sure it's really feasible.

I thought it'd be a nice thing if some of the fan fiction posted on this forum was like compiled into a book and sold in aid of a pet charity. There'd obviously be no money in it for the writer's but it would be rewarding to know they're helping a good cause. But since it's already online perhaps that idea is a bit redundant. Anyway i just thought i'd get some people's thoughts.

Sorry, but who would buy the fanfictions?
People that never heard of housepets are obviously not buying any fanfiction in here. Unless if the only customers were people in this forum, that would not work.

I dun really think it would be an all to effective thing. All of King's Men already did have a contest on how to finish the story, so dun really think that extra Fan Fiction in regards of it would work either. I have never really heard of a Book of Fanfiction, but I dun think it would be effective unless it was of a more well and internationally known title.

I see your point. I just imagined that the series had a reasonable fanbase.

I think it could work, there might not be a ton of money raised,
but if it went to a good cause then every last bit counts, right?

much as i would like this kind of project see the light, i see several problems:

1) the final word is up to Rick, he's the owner of everything HP related.
2) We'd need an editorial staff to select what's worth selling, then editing the stuff.
3) We'd need Rick or someone very talented to illustrate the thing. A market product should be distinguished for some bonus art
4) as already pointed, the market would be limited to the fanbase

This could work if Rick is willing to put in the time to deal with this project as well as finding enough writers to create enough short stories (thats a better name than fanfictions) to fill a book, and we could include some of the other writers work from Media Median if they are willing to contribute.
We could publish the book on the Amazon Kindle Publishing thing as a charity fundraiser project for an animal charity (like RSPCA or SPCA) which would explain why all the stories are about animals.
Who knows, we might have a Kindle bestseller on our hands.

Now, THAT's an idea!
If Rick agrees to that, we could write original stories to be fit in the comic continuity, sort of like 'All the King's Men' project! And with his art and signature, THAT would sell!

The kindle idea sounds awesome, i'd certainly be willing to submit an original story.

It's really not super viable.

Plus Rick really does not have the time to take yet one more project under his belt when he's got a three times a week comic, his own stories, art, commissions and other stuff to do guys.

It's better to let an idea into the air even when it's not viable than to let it rot unsaid and regret what may have been.
