Power Rangers: Babylon Guardians

Hello everyone. Now, I do realize that this idea was already coined by loomCAT but be assured that I have taken the liberty to ask for his permission to use this idea which he agreed to.
With that said, let’s begin: Power Rangers Babylon Guardians.
------------------------------------------------------------------
In a place separated from all of time and space. A place beyond any mortal comprehension (in reality it was just a bunch of stars but I’m trying to make this sound dramatic), there stood a colossal table… Hey, don’t laugh! This table was probably made out of a magic mahogany or something…

Three celestial beings who wove the very fabric of reality are found settling a dispute over how the world would run. Surely it was a great matter, one that would be told through the ages in this cosmic domain.

“For the last time Pete, you can’t give your avatar laser eyes.” Kitsune said, pinching the temple of his forehead.

“Well why not, that doesn’t make him extremely powerful does it?” Pete replied.

As you can see, the weavers of all that is are three geeks playing a tabletop role-playing game.

“It’s a bit more complicated than that!” Pete said in protest. “One thing I absolutely hate about being an all-knowing deity is that you’re fully aware when you are in a bad fan fiction.”

The third of these cosmic beings decided to speak her mind. “Never mind that now Pete. You can’t give your avatar any powers whatsoever. They must as powerful as any average member of their species.” The Spirit Dragon (or just Dragon by her friends) pointed out.

“I’m afraid the time has come for all of you to break that rule.” A fourth voice spoke out.

The celestial beings did not need to look to see who had come into their domain only one other had the power to come into the space between spaces uninvited.

“What are you talking about Tarot? If they won’t allow me to break something as minor as ‘no giving your avatar laser eyes’ then why do you believe they would do so themselves.” Pete asked angrily.

Telling a celestial being to break their own rules, much less telling a celestial being to do anything, is considered to be an insult among them. As such, Tarot was expected by all of them to have a very good reason to speak out against them.
“You mean you haven’t noticed? You haven’t felt the fluxations in the cosmos?” Tarot asked.

“Watchootalkinabouttarot?” Kitsune asked. There was nothing that avoided their collective all seeing eyes.
“Skath has escaped.”
Except that.

“Skath? Oh, oh that’s not good. Uh, if anyone needs me I’ll be hiding for my immortal life.” Pete said attempting to leave very quickly.

“Sit back down! We need to come up with something here.” Kitsune yelled at the griffon.

“If Skath has escaped from his confinement, it would mean the destruction of the entire world.” Dragon said with worry in her voice.
“I have a plan that would stop him” Tarot said.

“Well by all means mortal, please share it with us all knowing gods because, quite frankly, my celestial mind is telling me that we are all screwed!” Pete said going into hysterics. If anything could make Pete frightened for his life, chances are it would be not be a good thing.
“UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE ETERNITY YOU MORON!!!” Pete yelled at the narrat-hey!

“If you would all just please stop losing your heads and listen!” Tarot yelled. She sometimes forgot how childish these deities could be. “Now, the three of you could be powerful enough to stop Skath on your own.”

“Well yes, we could. But the Entity has made it so that cosmic beings cannot fight one another.” Kitsune interrupted. “If your plan is just going straight up against Skath than you need to think a bit more outside the box.”

“My plan is not to have you three fight Skath but rather a group of mortals.”

There was a long silence before Pete decided to break it.
“Well, that’s certainly outside the box. Now all we need is a plan that’s both outside the box and, oh I don’t know, HAS A SEMBLANCE OF INTELLIGENCE!”

Tarot glared at the griffon before continuing. “I assume you three know of the Morphing Grid?”
Dragon raised an eyebrow. “The Morphing Grid? Yes, it’s the source of power for the Power Rangers.”
Tarot continued. “The Morphing Grid works by taking an outside power source and synthesizing it into ranger energy, allowing the user to use that energy to morph into a Power Ranger. My plan is for each of you to choose a new avatar and siphon your own cosmic power through the morphing grid in order to allow your avatars to use that power to become Rangers themselves. This way your power would be used against Skath, and at the same time, keep you three from having to get directly involved.”

The three cosmic deities looked among one another as if trying to see what they thought of the idea.

Tarot reinforced her idea “Rita, Lord Zedd, the Machine Empire, the Alliance of Evil. All of these threats have been defeated by rangers of the past. You know just how effective they are at pulling off the impossible.”

Finally, Kitsune gave a heavy sigh “But who would be willing to take this kind of responsibility. Who would be worthy to take this kind of power?”
“I have a couple of suggestions.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------
“Peanut, Max… what on earth are you two doing?” Grape asked.
“Well Peanut had the idea that if we stood on our heads all the blood would rush to our brains and make us super intelligent.” Max replied.
“That way, we could figure out a way to get into that new R-rated Pridelands movie.” Peanut finished.
Grape looked at Max then at Peanut and then sighed in defeat.
“Move over.” She said preparing to get into a handstand.

Ladies and gentlemen, the defenders of the world.

That was wonderful, and easily one of the funniest fanfics I've read. Please continue!

I have to admit though: I find it odd that you titled this "Babylon Guardians." That's the title I was going to use! Strange...

Anyway, you can bet I'll be keeping up to date on this story. Onward with this whimsical tale! ^_^

Episode 1: Unlikely Heroes
------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadly, Peanut’s plan of ‘instant-genius-just-add-hernia’ didn’t quite go so well. And all the three obtained from their experiment was a collective headache.

Deciding to just cut their losses, the three made their way to the park. Why didn’t they just stay home and play video-games instead of just randomly going to the park for no apparent reason? Because then there would be no story you who asks too many questions in a fic about the cast of Housepets becoming Power Rangers.

As the three were on their way, a shadow was watching from behind the bushes, her yellow eyes following them wherever they went. Once she was sure they wouldn’t see her, she held her palm to her head causing it to glow with a bright green aura. She then waited for a few seconds until…

-BEEP-

If you were walking down that same path, you could have sworn you saw a Pomeranian talking into her glowing hand as if it were a cell phone. However, you are not walking down that same path. You are at your computer reading this fanfiction. Therefore, you did not see a Pomeranian talk into her glowing hand as if it were a cell phone. Why? Because your life isn’t that interesting.

“They are alone. Yes… yes… Send them down now if you wish to test them. I wouldn’t worry about hurting them. If they are the ones we are searching for, then they will have to deal with much worse on a regular basis.”

We cut to our soon-to-be-heroes as they walk along the path eventually coming across the park. Surprisingly, it was completely empty save for the three of them.

“Well this is a major disappointment.” Grape said distastefully. “Whose idea was it to come to the park in the middle of winter anyway?”
Max held his arms up. “Don’t look at me, I wanted to stay at your place and play video games.”
“Hey, I did too!” Peanut said. “Why did we come to the park?”
“Two reasons actually.” A new voice prompted.

The three turned to see Tarot facing them, a mischievous glint in her yellow eyes, though her face remained as sweet and innocent as ever.

“Tarot? What are you doing here?” Peanut asked his girlfriend. But Tarot continued speaking as if she didn’t hear him.
“One: Because fate called you three here. Because it is here that your true destinies shall be revealed to you. And two… I may or may not have influenced your minds with my psychic powers.”

“But why? What’s all this about destiny” Peanut asked.
“Why is it that this freaking world just can’t be normal!?” Grape asked.
“…..What?” Max asked.

“Behold, your foes.” Tarot said, her eyes glowing with an emerald green light. She snapped her fingers and within seconds, space contorted and twisted around her until she surrounded by three figures. Three humanoid figures the same size as our heroes. But their most interesting feature about them was that they didn’t have features. They were little more than a variety of shapes put in an order that slightly resembled a humanoid body. Triangles for heads, rectangles for arms and legs, circles for hands, and trapezoids for feet.

“I’d like to introduce you to the Formless. Should you three be the ones I seek, you will be facing them quite often. Living only by the basest of definitions. The Formless can be created by any all-powerful creature with but a mere wave.”

Grape, Peanut and Max all stared wide-eyed at the spectacle before them. But what unnerved them was that these Formless things were looking directly at them. At least it could be assumed they were given that they had no eyes. And while they couldn’t explain why, they couldn’t shake a feeling of hostility from these creatures.
Tarot continued with her lecture. “The Formless are nothing more than the idea of life. Their minds so weak that each Formless is only capable of knowing one thing. And these few Formless in particular, not to mention the other Formless you will no doubt face, know only how to fight.”

And then, in an instant, the Formless grew five tiny rectangles out of each of their circled hands which curled around the cylindrical appendage.
Grape knew what that was supposed to be. All these crazy things happening had momentarily shut off her brain but she could still notice that those Formless had turned their hands… into fists.
“Now, without further ado, let’s see if you can keep up with my expectations.”

Tarot snapped her fingers yet again, and as soon as the sound of her fingers reached each Formless’ triangular head they charged directly at the three with their fists raised.
And the leading Formless immediately went down from one punch from Grape.

“I don’t think so.” She said looking at the now horizontal advisory.
Tarot smiled. Everything was going according to plan.
“Impressive Grape, show me more.”
------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's part 1 of the first episode. (the first post was more or less a setup to the real deal.) Part 2 will be up... sometime.

This is hilarious and awesome (and sadly true)

I love this fic, and I don't even really like power rangers.

Agreed. These sound like good footsoldiers for our villain. Poor things don't stand a chance against Grape, though. ^^

Sorry but there is one thing that is bugging me, the motive and movement of the villain. I love the Bad Guys more then the heros but I'm very picky about them... My Favorite is Lothor, he is just so goofy, funny and he would break the fourth wall.

Lothor: The Rangers defeat is at hand. Would it kill you to crack a smile?
Zurgane: Sir, I don't have a mouth.

Well keep in mind that the villain hasn't even appeared yet. I mean this is just the first half the first 'episode'.

The downed Formless lifted himself (was it a he?) from the ground and grouped together with the other Formless, the three of them taking fighting stances.

“Formless One, your opponent will be Peanut.” Tarot said to the grayscale goons. One of the Formless did something akin to a nod and started advancing towards Peanut.
“If you think Max and I are just going to stand by…” But Grape’s words were cut short when invisible bonds snapped around her and Max bringing them close together and binding their arms and legs.

“I’m sorry Grape, but this test is to show how well you can each fend for yourself. You may not interfere.” Tarot explained.
“Test?! What test?! What’s going on here Tarot?!” Grape demanded. “Um… Am I the only one who is confused over the fact that we’re fighting geology?” Max said. Poor man was not as used to Tarot’s more supernatural antics as his two companions. He was well aware of her powers but he never would have thought that this would happen to him.

“First off, I believe you mean geometry. Second off, all of your questions will be answered after your respective fights. Just know that I wish you no harm.” Tarot said trying to calm everyone down.
“Mean us no harm? I think the boat has sailed on that one dontcha think?” Max said.
“And furthermore…”
“Would everyone please just be quiet!!!”
Needless to say, everyone present was surprised to hear that little outburst come from Peanut.
He was currently in chokehold in the Formless’ arms and was in the midst of attempting to pry them off.

“Tarot, you said that as soon as we beat these guys you would answer our questions?” He asked the psychic pooch.
“Well yes but I have to say it appears as though you are lose…”
And with that, Peanut snapped his head back causing it to slam into the Formless’ nonexistent face, the impact forcing the creature to release its hold on Peanut. Peanut went low and leg swept the Formless to the ground. Before the Formless could get back up, Peanut jumped up and dropped down, elbow first, on top of the Formless.
“…ing.”

The Formless dissolved into a mass of fog before fading away. Peanut turned towards Tarot.
“Does that suffice?” he asked grinning.
Tarot stared in shock for a second before smiling. “Yes Peanut, that will do just nicely.”
She snapped her fingers again and within seconds Peanut was also on the ground tied up in the same invisible bonds as Grape and Max.
Immediately after that, Max felt his own bonds loosen before dispersing. He got up from the ground and realized that it was his turn.

The second Formless advanced towards Max with its fists raised.
“Pfft, come on! If Peanut can take these guys on then… [BAM]” Max was interrupted by the Formless dropkicking him a few feet back.
Max screwed his eyes shut in pain only to open them to the image of the Formless’ foot hovering above his head. He rolled out of the way just in time before the foot came slamming down. Max got up and gave a solid punch to the Formless’ gut causing it to double over, the wind completely knocked out of it. Max took advantage of this with a kick to the face throwing the Formless onto its back. The Formless disappeared in the same fog as the last showing Max as his victor.

Tarot nodded her head in approval and gave a slight smile. “Very good Max, now there is only one left.”
Just as before, invisible bonds wrapped around Max and released Grape. She immediately charged at the remaining Formless, wanting to get it over with as fast as possible, but soon found herself on her back after the Formless pulled her own momentum against her, flipping her over its head. Grape tried getting back up but the Formless pinned her down restricting all movement in her arms. Her legs, however, were free to knee the Formless in the hindquarters and knock it off her. She got back up and waited for the Formless to get back up. But before the Formless could fully recover, she uppercut the Formless into the air shouting “Shoryuken!” for effect. She grabbed the Formless out of the air, slammed it onto the ground face-first and punched it in the back of the head. The Formless dissolved soon after.

Grape then turned her attention towards her friends as they began to move around, indicating they were free from their bonds. With this comforting thought in mind, she turned towards Tarot and charged at her. She grabbed Tarot and pinned her to a tree by the chest. Peanut ran over and tried to pry the two apart to no avail.
“What the heck has gotten into you?!” Grape screamed at the dog caught in her death grip.
“Is having all those powers just one big bore fest that you decided to spice things up by trying to kill us!?
Tarot struggled to break free but Grape only closed her grip tighter. “Please, if you would just allow me to explain.” Tarot said. Luckily, Peanut managed to take control of the situation.

“Grape, let her go. If Tarot has a good explanation, then what harm would it be to hear her out?” Peanut reasoned. Grape looked at Peanut then back to Tarot. Tightened her eyes shut in frustration and gave out a calming sigh. Finally she let Tarot go as she fell back on her feet.
Tarot dusted the bark and dirt from her back and turned towards the three, all of them listening with intent. “First off, I wish to apologize for my actions. It was never my intent to seriously harm any of you and I hope you all understand that I was fully prepared to call the Formless off should any of your fights got out of hand.” Grape narrowed her eyes in disbelief but allowed Tarot to continue uninterrupted. “I just wanted to be sure that not only could you three fight but also that you were willing to fight to defend yourselves.”

Max decided to chirp in. “Why would you need to know all of this? What, are you putting together an illegal fight ring or something?” Peanut couldn’t help but imagine Tarot acting like Boss Tanagi from ‘Cage’.
“I think it would be better for you to understand my motives if we continue this conversation at my house.” She said before walking away.
The three friends looked at each other hesitantly before Peanut detached himself from the group and following Tarot to her home. Max gave one last glance at Grape before leaving as well. Grape rolled her eyes, gave a sigh of defeat, and followed to Tarot as well.

About five minutes of complete silence later, the four had arrived at Tarot’s abode. Since both Grape and Max had never been inside, they were taken aback by just how abnormal the interior was compared to the average exterior. Bottles of potion littered the shelves. Spell books were strewn all over the place as well as jars that contained pickled specimens of they-didn’t-even-want-to-know-what. The most normal things in the room were twin red bean bags in the center of the room. Tarot leaded the group across the absolute mess of a living room towards a normal enough brown door. Max did notice that the handle looked like a three fingered hand with sharp looking claws holding on to a glass orb.

Tarot opened the door to reveal stairs that lead into a basement of sorts. Tarot turned towards the three and nodded towards the stairs, indicating that they should go first. Peanut and Max filed down the stairs without question but Grape was a little more hesitant. “I promise that all of your questions will be revealed down there.” Tarot said. Finally, Grape mustered up the courage to walk down the stairs after the boys. But as soon as she touched the third step down, the door behind them slammed shut and Tarot was nowhere to be seen. “That little psychic gumdrop!” Grape screamed. She pounded against the door swearing death threat after death threat at the Pomeranian. But no reply came at all. After a good minute of banging against the door, the three decided to continue down the basement in hopes that Tarot would release them afterwards. “This is kidnapping! She can’t just do this to us! As soon as I get my hands around her little neck I’M GONNA……. Whoa.” Grape’s anger was subsided by the image of the basement. They all half expected some kind of dungeon given everything else that’s happened. Instead, the entire basement was built like an altar. Three altars to be exact, each one resembling an arc with a river of flowing light coming out of each. The lights from the arcs crackled and popped, twisted and turned, took a variety of shaped and colors before each one took a figure of a gargantuan creature. A griffon on the left side, a dragon on the right side and a kyuubi in between them. Peanut and Grape recognized the griffon as Pete who acknowledged them with a condescending smirk. Peanut also recognized the dragon.
“Hey, you’re that dragon that fought that snow giant thing. It’s great to see you again!”

The dragon smiled widely and gave Peanut an ecstatic wave before she noticed the looks Pete and Kitsune were giving her. She composed herself and spoke to the three with a regal tone.
“We would like to thank you three for coming here. Let me be the one to apologize for my avatar’s rather ‘questionable’ method of testing you.”
Grape scoffed in annoyance. “To say the least! What was that about anyway?”
Kitsune coughed in order to draw attention to him. “Please, why don’t you three sit down and we will explain as best we can.”

“Sit down? Where?” Max asked. He didn’t see any chairs or anything of the sort when he and the others came downstairs. But as he looked around, he saw three ordinary wooden chairs right behind them. As the three sat down, they looked at the cosmic beings in front of them and waited to hear their story. Once he was sure he had there undivided attention, Kitsune continued. “The story I’m about to tell you is a tragic one, one that will soon bring ruination to world if we do not act soon. It is a story of our fallen brother, a being known by many names. But we have always called him… Skath.”

Sorry about the long wait. Personal life dealt a bad hand to me but it's all cool now.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Kitsune began his tale. “One thing you must understand is that we a race of cosmic beings known as the Babylonians. We govern this world and all who inhabit it in the stead of its creator. A being of untold age and power known only as: the Entity. This town you live in is called Babylon Gardens for a reason. Its founder, William Milton, was once my own avatar who built this town over what is known as the nexus. A point in the earth where the cosmic energy that connects your world to us is at its most powerful.

He built this town over the nexus and advertised it as a ‘pet-friendly environment’ in order to bring many pets to the town and in doing so, gave us a large number of choices to be our avatars. We find that having animals as our avatars to be more beneficial as you are more in tuned with the natural forces than humans. William Milton was an exception due to his love of animals and nature. The fact that you are pets only further helps us as your animal nature brings you closer to the earth while being raised by humans allows you to act rationally instead of on instinct.” The Kitsune paused in his tale because he could see the three pets were obviously confused.
“But why would you even need avatars in the first place?” Peanut asked.

“At first it was simply to observe and understand the races of this planet so we could govern it more efficiently. In return, our avatars were given powers and abilities such as Tarot’s psychic prowess. It later became enjoyment for us. Simply observing you go through your lives. Seriously, you people are better than cable half the time.” Kitsune gave a small smile but it almost immediately went away as his story took a much darker tone.
“But that was then and this is now. And now, we are forced to choose new avatars in order to prevent what could very well be the apocalypse.” The three pet’s eyes went wide hearing that.

“There were many Babylonians in the past. We once had an entire kingdom and now we are the only three left. But back in those days, there was one Babylonian who didn’t have the same feelings for the earth as we did. He saw his god-like power as an excuse to rule over the world. In his mind he believed I was his right. He had the power to rule the world and he was more than willing to use it.”
Grape chimed in “Let me guess, Skath right?”

The Kitsune gave a sullen nod. “Yes, Skath saw the earth as nothing more than his throne. Oh, we tried to stop him, but his maliciousness and will to rule over all willed him on and he slaughtered us. In the end, the Entity forced Skath into imprisonment but in doing so, the Entity was killed using up all of his power. In the end of it all, we three were the only ones left and we took it upon us to protect the world and its inhabitants. But now…”
“But now Skath has broken free of his imprisonment and want to destroy the power of the nexus so that when he comes into our world to take it over, you won’t be able to stop him.” Max said.

Everyone stared at Max in disbelief, even the deities.
“What? I had to get one right eventually.” He said crossing his arms.

Grape ignored Max’s sudden understanding of the situation for now as she turned to the deities. “But what does this have to do with us? I mean, sure it’s terrible news and all but what would you gain from telling us about it?”
The Kitsune looked at his companions and they both gave a sullen nod. “Before he died, the Entity made it so that we Babylonians could not fight against one another so that none of us could follow in the same path as Skath. He was certain that Skath would stay in his imprisonment. But know that he is out and we are powerless to stop him, it falls to you three to make sure he does not succeed.”

The three’s jaws dropped to the floor simultaneously. “Wait, you mean us? But what can we do?” Peanut asked.
“If this Skath guy is supposed to be some all powerful god then how are we supposed to stop him?” Max said, starting to wonder if he should get off the nip for good.

“When the Entity imprisoned Skath, he banished him to a pocket dimension known as the Void of Darkness. Skath has broken out of his bonds but he is still trapped in the Void. He wishes to destroy the nexus not only to cut the world off from us but also because its destruction would cause such a large cosmic shift that would be enough to shatter the Void and allow him to come to earth.”

Grape had to narrow her eyes in confusion. “But wait, if he’s still in the void, than how come he is such a threat?”
The Kitsune continued his blatant exposition. “Skath still has many agents outside of the Void who are vastly loyal to him. When Skath was imprisoned they all went into hiding. But now that there master is free from his bonds, they will stop at nothing to get him out. And we are certain the nexus will be their first target. That is where you three come in.”

It was then that the three deities’ eyes began to glow. The basement shook so much the three pets were flung from their chairs and landed on the ground hard. As the basement started to quake with enough vigor to make them believe room would shatter around them, they noticed a glowing green spot on the floor that was getting wider by the second. Suddenly, a bright green crystal jutted from the floor in the very center of the glowing light. It rose higher and higher until it suddenly halted in its ascent, the shaking room stopping with it.
As the deities’ glowing eyes began to fade. They allowed the three to catch their breath and gaze upon the crystal in the center of the room.
“This crystal is the physical manifestation of the Morphing Grid. A power source in your world that is almost as old as we are. Our plan to stop Skath is this: You three will become our new avatars. Then we will siphon our cosmic power into the crystal which will synthesize it into an energy you can use, as our avatars, in order to morph into Power Rangers. With our power, you can stop Skath’s followers from destroying the nexus.”
Peanut raised his hand. “Yes Peanut, you have a question?”

“I’m sorry, but did you just say Power Rangers? As in the people who have saved the world from evil and chaos countless times now. As in the superheroes that’ve gone above and beyond the impossible and have even saved the entire universe at one point?”
The Kitsune nodded “In essence, yes.”
“COOL!!!”

Than Pete spoke for the first time that day. “About time too.” He grumbled to the narrator, apparently forgetting that the narrator could turn him into a chicken at any time. “Maxwell Byron, step forward.” He said in his best posture. Knowing Pete, it must have felt completely alien to him. “Keep talking bub.” He grumbled in a whisper.
Max was wary at first but he eventually walked towards Pete and stood before him.
“I have chosen you to become my new avatar. You will use the power of the griffon to fight against Skath as the Yellow Ranger. Do you agree?”
“Max paused to think about it and eventually nodded. “Yes, if this Skath guy is a dangerous as you said, than I agree. I’m not about to let Gozer come up in my turf without a fight.” He said giving the griffon one of his trademarked toothy grins.

Pete smiled at the youth and decided that he had made the right choice for his avatar. He lifted his right claw and a stream of energy soon started flowing from his claw to the Morphing Grid. The Morphing Grid started glowing in a rainbow of colors: Red, blue, green, black, yellow, pink, and white, before it glowed completely yellow. The yellow light started to rise from the crystal and shrink into a small orb of light that zipped directly towards Max’s wrist. As the light dispersed, a strange device was now seen on Max’s wrist. It was black with a yellow lined pattern and an emblem that resembled a griffon standing on its hind paws with its bird like claws outstretched as if it were roaring.
Pete nodded to Max gestured him to go back to the others. Peanut was about to ask him what it was like until Dragon called him forward. Max probably wouldn’t have heard him anyway as he was too busy admiring his new morpher.

Peanut stood before Dragon, hoping against hope that she was about to say what he thought she was about to say.
“I have chosen you to become my new avatar. You will use the power of the dragon to fight against Skath as the Blue Ranger. Do you agree?” She asked him, though it was obvious what his answer would be.
“Yes, a thousand times yes. My entire life I’ve wanted to be a superhero. I am not going to let this opportunity get away. If Skath wants the earth, he is gonna hafta get by me!”
Dragon smiled warmly at Peanut. Never has she seen anyone so eager to protect. His heart was ready for the power she was about to give him. Dragon gave Peanut a quick kiss on the forehead and raised her own claw towards the Morphing Grid. The same ritual past with the exception that now a blue light rose from the crystal. It shrunk and found its way to Peanut’s wrist becoming a blue version of Max’s morpher. The emblem on it resembling a dragon flying through the sky. Peanut, beaming like a twelve year old in a toy store, ran towards his friends giving Max a high five.

Peanut turned towards Grape to give her a high five as well but stopped when he saw her face. Unlike Max and Peanut, Grape didn’t seem all that excited to become a ranger. She had a look of determination on her face that confused Peanut. He assumed it was because Grape was setting in her mind that she was going to treat this with the upmost dignity. Peanut suddenly felt bad. Here he was acting like a child when they were being given the task of protecting the entire world. Grape was approaching this with the seriousness that was demanded of a hero. Peanut couldn’t help but smile at Grape though she didn’t notice. It was just another thing he respected her for.
Finally, the Kitsune spoke. There was only one thing left to do.

“Grape Sandwich, come forward.” Grape walked past her friends and stood before the kyuubi. Not once breaking posture. She held her head up high the whole time.
“I have chosen you to become my new avatar. You will use the power of the kyuubi to fight against Skath as the Red Ranger. Do you agree?”
Peanut smiled even more. Grape was a perfect choice. She would never allow Skath to win now that they knew what the stakes were. She would never falter, never give up and never…
“No.”

Episode 2: Seeing Red Rangers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sharon Jones often prides herself as one of the best in her profession. In her 2 years of being a real-estate agent she has not lost a single costumer yet and each and every one of them has always been happy with their purchase. She truly was the best... At least that’s what she constantly tells her co-workers at the office. It’s true that Ms. Jones is a very accomplished real-estate agent but to call her the best, not to mention her need to claim she is the best at every turn, was pushing it greatly.

However, even she couldn’t deny that a 12 year old child could probably satisfy this couple’s needs. Ms. Jones current clients were a Mr. and Mrs. Skath. Odd name all things considered but she theorized they were Nordic or something. But what baffled Ms. Jones is how very little they specified what they want in a house. Just three requirements: It had to be small, it had to have air conditioning, and it had to have a basement. As a joke, Ms. Jones even showed them an absolutely horrid house that met all of their requirements and they said they would take it. Of course she asked that they continued looking as she knew the building was about to be condemned anyway. They were in their second house now and Ms. Jones was currently in the process of showing off the house.

“There is central air in all of the rooms, except for the attic but I doubt that’s a big loss, and it is a one floor-one bedroom house. My guess is you don’t plan on having kids so you just want a cozy place to settle in?” Ms. Jones asked her clients, attempting to lift the mood. No such luck, the Skaths were quite a pair of no-nonsense people as Ms. Jones has noticed.

Mrs. Skath looked around with a rather bored look in her eyes. “Where is the basement?” She asked bluntly. Ms. Jones smiled and led them though the kitchen. At the far end of the kitchen was a white door. Ms. Jones cringed at the fact that much of the paint was peeling away but it seemed the Skaths could care less. Very easy to please people, Ms. Jones noted. If only half of her other clients were this easy. She opened the door revealing a rather… unpleasant sight.

Ms. Jones was worried that this basement might just ruin the deal for her. It looked more like a dungeon than a basement with its stone pillars supporting the floor of the house above it and the cold stone walls that lined the entire room. Nevertheless, Ms. Jones did her best to sell of the basement to the couple. “It might require a little work, but I can easily see this place becoming a den or office or whatever you have planned for this…” “It’s perfect.”

Ms. Jones did a quick double take at what Mr. Jones just said. She almost laughed at just how easy it was to please this couple. “Excellent, shall we go back upstairs to discuss prices?” She asked them. Mr. Skath looked at her directly in the eyes. Ms. Jones felt her breath escape her, Mr. Skath by all accounts was a very average looking young man but his eyes, dear lord his eyes were just… mesmerizing her. They were a deep violet and there was a certain shine about them. Ms. Jones quickly composed herself. She didn’t want Mrs. Skath to see her fawning over her husband.

“Didn’t you hear? There is a very special celebration at your office going on. I think it had something to do with your boss getting a new baby. Anyway, in celebration, all of the houses in your office’s possession are free” Mr. Skath informed her. Free? That doesn’t sound like… But lord in heaven was this man’s eyes beautiful… Where was she? Oh yes, now she remembered! The celebration sale, all houses were completely free.

“Well in that case we just need to go over paperwork and...” She was cut off from Mr. Skath again. “But don’t you remember? We already went through the proper paperwork. It’s all taken care of.” He informed her.

…Yes… Yes, he was absolutely right. How could she be so forgetful? “Well in that case I will leave to enjoy your brand new home. I’m sure you will be very happy here.” She gave a nod to the very charming couple. She walked out of the house happy that the deal went smoothly. She made a mental note to congratulate her boss on the new baby.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ‘charming’ couple gave each other a curt nod. Now that the annoying human was no longer in their presence, they could remove their disguises. In a flash of light, where once stood the fictional humans now stood two very strange creatures.

The man was replaced by a very demonic looking creature. Red skin adorned his body and horns that resembled that of a goat sprouted from his head. His face contorted and twisted to look like someone put all the features in all the wrong places. The only thing that was normal about his face was a pair of strikingly beautiful violet eyes.

The woman was replaced by a less horrifying creature. A female fox, simple as that. But if you were in her presence you would no doubt feel a deceiving nature from the vixen. As if she would sweetly ask you for a hug in a sugar-laced voice and, while her arms were around you, stab you in the back. What was odd about her appearance was her light violet fur and blood red eyes that seemed to shine like a fire in a torch.

The two gave each other a nod and immediately went to work. The two opened their ‘luggage’ and took out a variety of items. A very strange set of items indeed: Candles, cloves and clippings from a variety of plants, sands and soil from around the world, pickled specimens of you-don’t-even-want-to-know-what, and a large vial that contained a blood-red liquid. In fact, at a first glance, you would swear that the liquid was blood. There is a reason for that.

The violet vixen took out a container of white paint and a large paintbrush. As she got to work painting a strange rune on the floor of the basement, her companion started chanting an incantation. As the spell drew to a close, the rune on the floor crackled with power. A strange energy lifted itself from the floor and formed a circle in the air. An image began to form in the circle, an image of a place known to many as the Void of Darkness. And in this abysmal place stood the image of their master: Skath.

Skath sensed that a dimensional window had opened near him. As he looked through it, a smile formed on his face. “Well now, this is a nice surprise. I was beginning to think I had been forgotten.” Skath said. He looked through the window and tried to see if there was anyone else besides the two. “Where are the others?” He asked.

“Those of your army that are not dead were too frightened of the other Babylonians to come out of hiding Master.” The vixen replied. “I’m afraid that Malacoda and I are the only ones ready and willing to aid you.”

Skath gave a heavy sigh. “I suppose we’ll have to kill them in due time but before then, we must put our focus in getting me out of this dreary place.” Skath said, looking around his current abode. Not much to say about the Void. If you were trapped in the Void, you would feel as though you were stuck at the bottom of an endless canyon in the middle of an endless night. Not exactly a torturous purgatory but it was rather boring. And the fact that being here kept Skath from claiming his rightful kingdom could be considered torture in of itself.

“And what do you have to report on the status of Earth Youko?” Skath asked the vixen, now known as Youko. “Earth is ripe and ready for your arrival Master. The people of the planet have evolved over the time you have been gone to be a minimal threat but I’m sure it is nothing your great power cannot handle.” Youko told her master.

Skath smiled warmly at her. “I am very glad to hear this. It seems you two have been doing very well for yourselves in my absence. Also, Youko…”

Youko looked up expectantly.

“You are looking just as lovely as ever my dear.” Skath gave her a charming smile and reached out his hand through the window. As it was travelling across dimensions, Skath’s hand could only take a slightly shapeless, smoke-like form. But his gaseous hand caressed Youko’s face all the same. Youko felt her body tense up from his touch. As his hand retreated back through the window, Youko forced her body to compose itself.

Skath looked at his two subordinates. “Now then, reunions aside, it’s time to get to work. Take the Formless with you and find the Nexus. With it destroyed, I will be able to take back my throne.” The window began to disappear as it faded away, the image of Skath along with it. As soon as the final wisp of energy dispersed into the air, a platoon of twelve Formless appeared before Malacoda and Youko.

Malacoda stepped forward to address his new troops. “The first thing I want you to do is terrorize the town’s inhabitants. That will cause most people to shut themselves inside their home and keep them from interfering. When the authorities arrive, keep them busy while Youko and I search for the Nexus.” The Formless all gave a sharp nod to their commander and, in a single file line, marched out of the basement, out of the house, and into the streets.

Malacoda was about to follow them when he turned to look at Youko and noticed that she was still recovering from their Master’s touch. He put his hand on her shoulder as she looked up at him, craning her neck to do so due to his large stature. “Are you okay?” He asked her.

Youko gave a sharp nod as she followed the Formless out the door. “I’m fine Maly. I just hate it when he does that.”
Malacoda gave an understanding nod and the two walked out into the world.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The three deities looked at the purple cat with absolute shock.

She stared at them with a look of utter fury adorned on her face. “You heard what I said. No, no I will not go and kill myself because you three failed in your job to keep that lunatic locked up. You call you boss Entity-whatever ‘all-knowing’? Well, obviously not if he was too stupid to realize that Skath was going to escape from the Zone of Darkness or whatever the heck it’s called.”

Kitsune gave a half-hearted “Void of…”

“I DON’T CARE!!!! You said the Entity made it so you could not fight one another when he should have known that there was every possibility for Skath to escape. I refuse to go on some suicide mission because you three couldn’t do your job. This isn’t our fight. We’re not gods, we’re not all-powerful. And you expect us to go against an all-powerful deity because your boss was too stupid to think of the consequences of his actions.” Grape was nearly out of breath when her rant was finished.

“I’m sorry Grape, but this goes far beyond one man’s mistake. Even if that one man was a god.” Everyone in the room, mortal and god alike, looked to where this new voice came from. They looked to left-hand wall of the basement and saw that a large square hole was now in the wall. And who should come walking out of said hole and into the basement but Tarot who was joined by…

“Sabrina?” Max said in confusion.

Tarot continued talking while Sabrina stood behind her, ready to help protect Tarot should Grape start lashing out again. “I’m sorry you had to learn about Skath this way. And I can understand your feelings. You’re absolutely right. The Entity did make a mistake. And it was a grave mistake at that. But we can’t focus on that right now. Skath is trying to force his way into our world and if he succeeds…”

Grape cut her off. “I know, I know. ‘He will bring destruction and ruin to our world’. Tarot, I’m not a hero. I’m not some savior. I never asked for this. I never asked to be a lamb for you to throw at some monster. I… I can’t do this.” Grape started working her way up the stairs out of the basement. She turned to look at her friends. “Peanut, Max. Come on, let’s go.” She looked at them, but they did not move. The two boys looked at Grape, then at the three gods, then at Tarot and Sabrina and back at Grape. Peanut gave a heavy sigh. ‘She is gonna hate me for this.’ He thought to himself.

Peanut turned to face Grape and looked her in the eyes. “Grape, I’m staying.” Though he almost broke down when he saw the absolute betrayed look on Grape’s face. Still, he held his ground.

“Your right Grape, we didn’t ask for this. Your right, this isn’t our fight. Well, I’m making it my fight because it’s the right thing to do. I’m not gonna make you stay. I’m not even gonna ask you because I know what you would answer. Just know that I can’t follow you up those stairs.” He said. But her face made him regret every word.

Grape felt as though Peanut had just smacked her across the face. She turned to Max. “Max please… Don’t do this.”
Max stared at his feet. But he lifted his head enough to see the morpher that adorned his wrist. He stared directly into Grape’s eyes. “I’m sorry Grape. I gotta go with Peanut on this one.”

Grape was on the verge of tears. It took all of her willpower to keep her from breaking down right there. Finally, she just lost it. “FINE!!!!!! IF YOU TWO ARE TOO STUPID TO REALIZE THAT YOU’RE GONNA GET YOURSELVES KILLED THAN DON’T COME CRYING TO ME WHEN THIS WHOLE HERO STUFF BLOWS UP IN YOUR FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

She turned away from them in a huff and attempted to slam the door open, not caring if that was even possible, when she forgot that it was locked causing her to run face first into the door. “Tarot, I’m going to count to three and if this door isn’t unlocked…”

*click*

She didn’t say anything as she walked through the door and ran out of the house. Max attempted to run after her but he was held back by Peanut. “Trust me, its better if we left her alone for awhile and let her vent.” He said to the black cat.

Sabrina sighed. “Well that’s just great. Who’s going to be the Red Ranger now?”
Max tried to help salvage the situation. “Relax, Peanut and I can handle the slack until we find someone else. Two rangers should be enough for now at least.”

“I’m afraid it’s not that simple. The Morphing Grid was designed in order to bring strength through unity. It values teamwork above anything else. Until we can find someone to take the Red Ranger powers, I’m afraid your power are completely useless.” Dragon said with a sullen sigh.

Everyone looked around. With Skath free from his bonds, they needed a Red Ranger now!
Finally, Tarot stepped forward. “Kitsune, make me your avatar. I’m not very good in a fight but time is running short and we are running out of options.” Kitsune considered her words before realizing that they really had no other choice.

Max then realized something. “Hey, what about Sabrina? Can’t she take the powers?”

Sabrina swung her head side-to-side. “I’m afraid I’m going to be too busy with other things to go out into the field with you guys. Tarot brought me along to use my scrying in order to be your eyes-in-the-skies as it were.”

Tarot decided to elaborate as it was clear the boys didn’t fully understand. “Sabrina is basically going to tell us when Skath is making a move and to provide us with tactical support while we are in the field.”

No sooner had those words left her lips did Sabrina clutch her head in pain and fell to her knees. Max and Peanut immediately went to her and helped her to her feet. As soon as she was on her feet, she ran towards the far end of the basement behind the altars with Tarot following close behind. Peanut and Max gave each other a quick look before running after them. As they ran past the altars they saw Sabrina kneeling in front of a table lifted barely a foot off the ground. On the table was a simple crystal ball. Sabrina looked at the two boys and motioned them to come closer. As they did, both of them noticed images floating in the crystal ball.

Tarot turned to the boys and tried to explain. “This device is called a Viewing Globe. I got it from a fellow named Zordon during a magic convention in the planar dimensions. It’s supposed to show when and where danger is happening. I used some magic to tune it towards Skath’s cosmic power and linked it to Sabrina so that she would sense when it was going off.”

Sabrina gave a rather annoyed huff. “Yeah, at the cost of suffering through a migraine every time. Luckily they don’t last long.” Sabrina scryed through the Viewing Globe, trying to pinpoint where the danger was taking place. Finally, the group saw a gang of Formless terrorizing the people and pets of Babylon Gardens. Tarot ran back towards the altars and stood before Kitsune once more.

“We have officially run out of time. If we are going to make me the Red Ranger, we have to do it now!” Kitsune nodded and began the ritual. “Do you agree to use the power of the Kitsune to fight against Skath as the Red Ranger?”

“I do.” Tarot said immediately. Time was of the essence. Kitsune raised his hand and pointed it towards the Morphing Grid. He transferred his cosmic energy into the crystal and it came back out as a brilliant red light. Just as before, the red light shrunk into a ball and zipped towards Tarot’s wrist becoming a red morpher. But Tarot noticed something strange about her morpher: It didn’t have an emblem on it like Peanut’s or Max’s. She ignored it for now as there were bigger problems at hand.

She turned towards her new teammates. “Are you two ready for you first fight?” She asked them. Peanut and Max looked at each other, looked at their morphers, then looked at Tarot.

They nodded.

Things are starting to pick up! Nice to see.

So Tarot is only a temporary ranger, huh? Interesting...

The Formless did as Malacoda ordered them. Of course it didn’t take much for a grayscale person made out of shapes to freak out a town where the weirdest things that happen (At least as far as the whole town is aware) Is a water gun fight becoming an all-out war.

But now, the people and pets of Babylon Gardens were witnessing the brink of a real war. As Malacoda predicted, the local law enforcement quickly arrived in order to quell the panic. Fido didn’t exactly know what to make of these events. When he heard in the briefing about the riots in town he thought it was just a bunch of hoodlums causing a disturbance.

A simple riot control gig, that’s what he and the rest of his unit were getting into. Rubber bullets, tear gas, nothing to serious. That was before those… creatures completely wiped the floor with his unit. Now Fido was the only cop, human or pet, that was still on his feet. Whatever these things were, they didn’t breathe and bullets, rubber though they were, just seem to bounce off them. Fido held his ground for as long as he could but they were starting to overwhelm him. He punched one that was at his left and sent it flying, he turned and roundhouse kicked one into two more knocking them down like bowling pins.

He was about to snap his fist back, attempting to knock a few back and give him more room to work, but one got lucky and grabbed his neck and held on with all of its might. As Fido was too busy trying to pry the little within the automobile off his back, he didn’t notice two more grabbing his hands. The two Formless threw Fido at the ground, face first, and felt the two pin him down by the arms. He felt two more pin down his legs and felt the fists of feet of all the others just beating him down.

Fido tried his best to stay conscious but the pain was starting to work its way into his brain. Soon Fido’s body would be forced to shut down and faint from all the pain. He did hear a small group of voices call out before he went though, and he could’ve sworn they said “Babylon Guardians, Power Up!

A few minutes earlier…

Tarot, Max, and Peanut ran for the Carnaby district of town. That’s where Sabrina managed to pinpoint the Formless’ location. The group finally made it and saw the destruction the geometrical goons caused. Stores had their windows smashed to pieced and the wares inside were completely trashed. Bodies, which they hoped were all just unconscious, lay sprawled all throughout the streets and the Formless were making quick work of the police.

Max began running towards the Formless. “Come on, they need our help!” They were about to follow when…

“Guys wait!”

The three stopped where they were and began looking for where the voice came from. “Was someone just talking in… my brain?” Peanut asked. Tarot turned to them. “It’s just Sabrina; she’s speaking to us through telepathy.” Tarot lifted her hand to her head as it began to glow with red energy. Max and Peanut could only stare at her as she began to talk through her hand as though it were a cell phone.

“The Formless are just a diversion. Skath’s generals are currently trying to find the Nexus while they cause trouble to keep anyone busy and out of the way.”

Tarot face-palmed before speaking again. “Of course, what the heck would Skath want with a bunch of stores? Where are the generals?”

“They are in Milton Park. I think they’re trying to cast some sort of locater spell to find the Nexus.”

“Then we’re going to stop them.” Tarot’s hand stopped glowing as she turned to her teammates. “You two stay here and deal with the Formless. I’m going after the generals.” Peanut grabbed Tarot’s arm as she started to run towards the park. “Wait, you’re going by yourself?” He asked her. If these guys were supposed to be Skath’s generals than wouldn’t they be a lot more powerful than a couple of Formless? Tarot wrenched her arm out of Peanut’s light grip. “They may just be a diversion but they are still causing damage. You two need to stop them before somebody gets seriously injured or worse.”

Peanut reluctantly let Tarot run off to towards the park. He knew she was right, he just wished she didn’t have to go fight the generals alone. Max grabbed his shoulder and pulled him towards the Formless. “Come on Peanut, we can go help her when were done here.” Peanut knew Max was right. These people needed help right now.

The two stood before the Formless, some of them noticed the two while the others were beating on someone (They couldn’t see who) and started charging towards the Rangers. Max lifted his morpher for Peanut to see and Peanut nodded, brandishing his own morpher. The Babylonians gave them a rundown on how to use their morphers before they left. Everything after the actual morphing would ‘come naturally to them’.

Peanut and Max lifted their morphers up to their chests and waved their pointer and middle fingers over the emblem causing them to glow. They thrust their morphers into the air and said the activation code.

Babylon Guardians, Power Up!

The morphers hummed with power as the two felt the energies in the devices began streaming down their arms and throughout their bodies. They felt stronger, faster, better than ever before. And- *Brzzt* -They started feeling weaker as the morphers seemed to pull the energy it had just given them out of their very bodies. If anything, they felt weaker than before.

Obviously, the two were confused over the malfunction but they had little time to mull it over due to their minds processing that they had just alerted twelve Formless to their location and they didn’t have any powers. Max came up with an appropriate plan to counter the poor turn of events. “CHEESE IT!” The two ran off with the Formless hot on their tails.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
It didn’t take Tarot long to find the generals on top of a hill. They didn’t exactly make themselves discreet. Hiding behind a bush, Tarot sized up her opponents: a big demonic looking brute and a violet vixen. The two generals were busying themselves with preparing a spell, one that would obviously lead them to the Nexus. Tarot decided the time for subtlety was wearing thin and decided to face her opponents head on. After all, she was a Power Ranger now. She was sure her powers would be enough to handle these two.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
With no powers at their disposal, Max and Peanut could do little more to fend off the Formless that run from them. When one Formless managed to bound for Peanut and grab one of his legs, Max was able to knock it off with a two-by-four he found in the debris. But the two were both running out of room to run and running out of breath. After running practically halfway across the town, they soon found themselves cornered in an alley. They had no choice now, the two would-be Rangers turned to face the platoon of faceless goons. All they could do was hope for a miracle.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Tarot jumped out of her hiding spot and yelled at the two creatures. “Agents of Skath, I demand that you stop in your endeavors or I will use force to stop you!” Tarot said, desperately trying to sound braver than she felt. The two generals stopped what they were doing and turned to where the voice was coming from. The Babylonians obviously must have sent some type of champion to face them.

Youko smiled inwardly, it was not often anyone had the gall to challenge her. “Maly, why don’t you finish what you can here while I go and see that our guest is shown the door?” Malacoda gave a nod and returned to the circle the two were painting on the ground.

As Youko stepped closer and closer to Tarot, the poor Pomeranian could feel her breath threatening to betray her in her fear. It was one thing when she still had her psychic powers but now that she was under a new contract with new powers, she found herself doubting herself ‘Snap out of it Tarot, you are a Power Ranger. Start acting like it!’ But as the vixen stopped not five feet away from Tarot, she could see the blood-red eyes staring at her, as if they were looking into her soul. Tarot had almost forgotten about her morpher when Youko gave a lightning quick roundhouse to Tarot’s skull causing Tarot to fly quite a distance before landing painfully on the ground.

Tarot picked herself up and decided that now was a good time to morph. She raised her morpher to her chest and waved her fingers over it. Thrusting it into the sky she gave a hearty “Babylon Guardians, Power Up!” Her attempt went just as well as the boys. Worse, the morpher didn’t even begin to function like it had for Max and Peanut. The only sign that it even existed was the weight on Tarot’s wrist.

Youko raised an eyebrow at her opponent’s odd behavior. What, did she think she was Sailor Moon or something? Youko knew she probably should have just continued their fight (At least as much of a fight one could have with such a vastly inferior opponent) but curiosity got the better of her. “I have to ask, just what in the heck was that supposed to accomplish?” Youko asked the Pomeranian. Tarot, who was in the middle of fidgeting with her morpher in a vain attempt to get it working, looked up at the vixen. Tarot decided that the least she could do was buy herself time by bluffing. “You would do well to surrender now Skathscum. This device will enable me to take a form you could not possibly contend with. It will morph me into… A Power Ranger” ‘Just as soon as I can get it working’

But instead of immediately shaking with fear, like Tarot hoped she would, Youko simply laughed at his revelation. “A Power Ranger? I have heard stories about them, courageous heroes who brave the odds and stand against all of evil. So let me see one then, morph into one of these ‘courageous heroes’ and we will see just how powerful they are.”

Tarot just stood where she was, her mouth gaping slightly at the fact that the vixen showed no fear from her bluff. Youko laughed once more. “I thought so. Now then, why don’t I show you my own little power?” Before Tarot could even begin to guess what she meant, Youko thrust her hand into chest and pulled out a savage looking scimitar. Youko twirled her blade around before pointing it directly at Tarot. “Now then, are you sure you don’t want to morph?”
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Max and Peanut could do nothing more than hope for a miracle as the Formless edged closer and closer to the Rangers. Luckily, a miracle showed itself in the form of a police car ramming into practically all of the Formless, missing only two, and driving them into a wall. Both the Rangers and the remaining Formless looked with shock and surprise at the kamikaze police car but were even more surprised when they saw a purple cat climb out of the driver’s seat. “I really cannot leave either of you alone for five minutes, can I?” Grape said with a smug grin.

Her reunion with the boys was cut short when the remaining two Formless lunged at her. Grape readied herself when suddenly… The Formless felt a pair of hands grab each of their legs and slam them to the ground. Peanut and Max, their hands pinning down the Formless by the arms, delivered a simultaneous punch to the back of the Formless’ heads. The boys got to their feet, Max brushing off the dust on his shoulder. The three friends, united again, let the events that just occurred sink in… before they all just started laughing. Once they had their first moment of real enjoyment for quite a while, the two boys started bombarding Grape with questions.

“What happened to you?” “How did you know where we were?” “Where did you get that police car?” “How did you know how to drive a police car?” “Can you do that again? Because that was awesome!”

After Grape managed to quiet them down she tried to explain as best she could. “Okay, in order, I sulked around for a while before I realized that you guys were right. We didn’t ask for this job but we were chosen to do it and if we don’t than the consequences are going to much greater than the three of us. I went looking for you when I saw on the news that the Formless were attacking people in this part of town and I knew you two would be here. I just followed the sounds of your screams of terror and there you were about to get pummeled by a bunch of Formless. I found the police car not too far off, luckily whoever was driving it must have forgotten the keys in the ignition during all the confusion. I don’t know how to drive a car exactly but I know the gist from watching dad drive to allow me to do what I was planning to do. And finally, I might do it again if the need arises and I have the proper resources. Now if I might ask you two a question, why on earth didn’t you morph?”

Grape’s question almost flew over the boys’ heads as they were too busy trying to comprehend what she said. However Peanut was able to catch it as he explained how the morphers malfunctioned. Max suddenly gasped when he realized something. “That means Tarot’s is probably on the fritz too. We gotta go help her.” Peanut nodded in agreement as the two boys took off for the park with Grape following them in confusion. “Wait, Tarot has a morpher?” Peanut started explaining while running. They had to make it to Tarot before something bad happened.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
As the three friends found their way to the park, they gasped in horror as they found Tarot’s crumpled unconscious body sprawled at the feet of a strangely colored vixen holding a wicked looking sword.

Peanut almost forced himself to look away but found that he couldn’t. Her body was covered in a variety of scars and bruises. Peanut thanked the heavens and all the gods in them when he saw her chest rise and fall with very short breaths. She was still alive, but they had to get her into a hospital pronto.

Youko didn’t even see the brown dog coming as Peanut whacked her upside the head knocking her to the ground. Peanut knelt down and picked Tarot up in a bridal position before carrying her over to a park bench. He gently placed her down jolting her out of her unconscious state. She looked at Peanut’s caring eyes and felt his hand caressing her own. She loved it more than he would ever know but right now she couldn’t let anything distract them. She noticed Max and Grape coming to her side as well, both of them with their own looks of concern for the little dog.

Tarot smiled at Grape. “You came back?” Grape gave Tarot a small smile and nodded. Tarot then surprised everyone when she tore off her morpher and thrust it into Grape’s hands. Grape looked down at the morpher, looked at Tarot then nodded. She motioned for Peanut and Max to follow her towards the violet fox, who was just recovering from Peanut’s sucker punch. Youko looked at her new adversaries before smiling again, brandishing her blade. “Oh goody, more toys for me to play with.”

Grape looked at the morpher in her hand before finally making up her mind. With a flourish of style, Grape attached the morpher to her wrist. The second it was attached, it glowed with a brilliant red light as an emblem began to materialize on the device. Grape looked down and saw that her morpher’s emblem resembled a kyuubi sitting in a proud position, its head held high and its nine tails spread out for all to see.

Peanut and Max stepped forward, raising their morphers as well. “Alright Grape, just watch me and Peanut and do what...” Max was cut off from Grape in midsentence. “Don’t worry, I know what to do.” She didn’t exactly know how she knew, she just did. The boys merely shrugged and took their place beside Grape. It would look cooler if they all did it anyway.

The three raised their morphers to their chests and waved their fingers across their respective emblem. As they did, the emblems began glowing with a bright golden light. They thrust the morphers into the air and said, for real this time.

Babylon Guardians, Power Up!

This time the morphers didn’t gradually feed power to their hosts. This time the power was transferred instantaneously, their entire bodies glowing with a brilliant golden light. As they shown with enough light to rival the Vegas strip, rune covered circles appeared beneath their feet and began to gradually rise. As it did, their glowing bodies were being replaced with their Ranger forms. The circle travelled past their heads leaving helmets before disappearing, signaling the end of the transformation.

In the place where once stood three simple house pets now stood three Power Rangers. Their suits composed of various sections of their respective color and white separated by gold lines. Their Pants white with colored boots that was separated by their upper half by golden belt with a symbol on the buckle resembling a crescent moon surrounding a single six-pointed star. Their torsos completely colored with the exception of white at the sides and under their arms. On the center of their chest lay golden emblems identical to the ones on their morphers. And finally, their helmets resembled the heads of the deities whose powers flow through their bodies as we speak.

“Strength as old as the Earth, Griffon Power: Yellow Ranger!” Max screamed.

“Wisdom as old as the Earth, Dragon Power: Blue Ranger!” Peanut continued.

“Courage as old as the Earth, Kyuubi Power: Red Ranger!” Grape finished.

The three stood as one, a team for which nothing could break.

Youko, on the other hand, looked downright bored to tears. She gave a mocking yawn before turning to her companion. “Hey Maly, take a break and help me take out the trash.” Malacoda had barely noticed anything that had happened since the annoying Pomeranian arrived as he was too busy with the locater spell. However, at Youko’s call, he noticed the brightly colored clowns in spandex and allowed a slight titter to escape his mouth. It’s been a while before he’s seen a group of Power Rangers. He remembered that, despite their absolute absurdity, they were quite strong. This could be entertaining at the very least.

Malacoda walked up to his partner and materialized his own weapon out of thin air. A double-headed spear that looked bigger than the Rangers. “Which ones do you want me to take care of?” Malacoda asked the vixen. Youko gave it some thought before she noticed the emblem on the red one’s chest. As soon as she did, she smiled a malicious and toothy grin. “You take care of Periwinkle and Mr. Sunshine. Leave the red one to me.” Malacoda nodded as he started to advance towards the group. Youko noticed the red one move to defend the males.

Youko didn’t give a chance as she ran towards the female and dropkicked her down the hill they were on. She raced towards the descending red blur and, as they both hit the ground, blocked her path to her friends.

Grape gave a huff under her helmet, and got into a fighting position. “Alright, you want a little one-on-one? Come and get it.”

Well everyone, the end of episode two. Let's hope we go all the way to the end.
-------------------------------------------------------

“How in the world did she manage to rope us into this?” King asked his friend Fox. The husky could only shrug his shoulder. The two were trailing behind a third dog, a hyper-kinetic lass by the name of Sasha.

“What can I say King, she gives us one look of those soulful eyes and we, as mere mortal men, become bound to her will.” Fox replied. The two were asked by Sasha, utilizing what she refers to as the big sweet googly eyes of complete and utter domination, to accompany her on a shopping trip.

King gave a huff, crossing his arms behind his head. “I would flick my finger in a whipping motion with a vocalized ‘wtshh, wtshh’ for effect but considering I’m one of the affected parties, I shall refrain from doing so.”

Fox gave a curt nod. “Much obliged.”

“Come on boys, it’s not that bad. What am I gonna do, force you to help me pick out a wardrobe? Help me try on shoes?” Sasha didn’t like feeling as though she was enslaving the boys (well, not completely at any rate), she just wanted some company.

Bino was going through one of his usual… episodes, so she thought she’d turn to her two closest friends. “How about this, in gratitude for taking the time out of your busy schedules of lazing about in the sun, I will treat you both to lunch.”

Fox contemplated her offer before nodding. “Fair enough, I could always go for some sushi.” King stuck out his tongue in disgust. “Ugh, why sushi? I say we go for some Mexican food.” Fox practically mirrored King’s actions to a tee.
“No way, we’re having sushi.”
“Like heck we are! If I gotta go along with this then I should at least get a burrito out of it. We’re getting Mexican.”’
“Sushi.”
“Mexican.”
“Sushi.”
“Mexican.”
“SUSHI!”
“MEXICAN!”
“OH MY GOD!”

The two boys stopped their bickering to see what startled their female companion, and almost had the same reaction. As far as they could see, every shop and store in the district had their windows smashed and the interiors completely thrashed apart. There were bodies, still alive but all unconscious, littering the streets. What was truly scary was the fact that a good handful of these bodies were adorned in police uniforms. Officers, both human and pet, looked as if they just got out of a gang war with Genghis Khan and his Huns.

Sasha looked across the chaos with her hands covering her mouth. Fox and King simply stood where they were, unable to take in the destruction. King was the first to snap back to reality. “Sasha, go find a telephone and call 911.” Sasha’s eyes lingered on the ruined streets a little more before nodding and began searching for a phone that was still intact.

When she was gone, King turned to Fox. “Help me find somebody conscious, we may be able to find out what happened.” Fox gave a nod and the two began their search. After about fifteen minutes, during which Sasha managed to contact the paramedics and afterwards join the boys in their search, they did not find a single person conscious enough to give them any details.

A few minutes later, a group of ambulances and police cars rolled towards them. As the paramedics began loading civilians and officers alike into the white and red vans, a police dog started moaning and trying to regain consciousness.

He managed to open his eyes enough to see a nurse in the process of strapping him down to a gurney. “They… they couldn’t be… stopped.” The nurse rested her hand on the K-9’s head. “Shh, it’s alright. You’re safe now.” Her voice was soothing. It calmed the dog immensely but he was still tense. As if thinking that whatever attacked him could come back at any moment.

“FIDO!!” The police dog heard someone scream his name. He looked slightly to the left and saw Sasha running up to him, Fox and King running right behind her. She skidded to a stop next to his gurney and nearly broke down right then and there. He looked so… weak. She never wanted to see him like that again. King put a comforting hand on her shoulder before turning towards Fido. “Now look Fido, you have to tell us. What did this?”

Fido closed his eyes and tried to think back but it was all a blur. He could remember one thing tough, right before he blacked out. Something about…
-------------------------------------------------------
“Babylon Guardians? That’s what you call yourselves? So those two-bit deities aren’t man enough to fight their own battles?” Youko mocked as she swung her sword towards her opponent. And for the eightieth time, the sword cut through nothing but air.

Her opponent, the Red Ranger, dodged her sword strikes with barely a fraction of an inch difference between safety and pain each time. “Yeah, I don’t like it either but it’s not like we can just go on strike. Power Rangers don’t exactly have a union.” Grape, all sarcasm aside, could not believe the power that was coursing through her body. Her speed, her strength, her endurance, her agility all seem to have tripled since morphing. The swing of the sword seemed to slow down just enough to where she could dodge it with ease. But she knew couldn’t stay on the defensive. Sooner or later, she would have to make a move. She could only hope the boys were doing better on their end.
-------------------------------------------------------
Max hit the tree so hard the bark practically flew of the trunk. Peanut wasn’t doing much better. The boys had hoped that Malacoda’s large size would make him slow enough to a point where they could overwhelm him with fast attacks and hit-and-run tactics.

No such luck as Malacoda swung his double-ended spear with a swiftness and speed reminiscent of a man twice as lithe. What Malacoda’s large size did give him was superior strength which made him all the more of a danger. So far, the only thing that kept the boys from being shish-kabobs was their Ranger suits protective properties. Because of this, Max has come to affectionately call their suits ‘The best dang pieces of spandex ever.’

But even with the protective prowess of the suits and their empowered bodies making them faster and stronger than ever before, it was clear the two were fighting a losing battle.

Peanut ducked just as Malacoda swung his spear’s blade towards his midsection causing it to miss his helmet-covered head by a mere fraction of an inch. With a clear shot, Peanut gave a straight punch to Maly’s stomach but his fist was grabbed by the demon’s free hand in mid swing. With a growl, Malacoda threw Peanut to a recently recovered Max who was charging at the red beastie.

Max managed to barely jump over Peanut’s flying body, shouting a quick apology to his now-on-the-ground partner in blue, as he continued his charge. Max’s feat of agility surprised Maly enough to allow Max one free kick to the face. Malacoda recovered quickly and retaliated with a backslash of his spear to knock Max backwards and land painfully on his hindquarters.

Malacoda was about to deliver a crushing blow on the downed Yellow Ranger when he noticed the blue one coming from behind, jumping of a large stone to gain height. Peanut was flying towards Malacoda, read to give an aerial punch to the back of his skull. But Malacoda twisted his body around and, with lightning-fast reflexes, thrust his spear straight for the Blue Ranger’s face.

But instead of hearing a sickening squelch, Malacoda instead heard the sharp clang of metal meeting metal. Peanut had managed to deflect Malacoda’s spear with his own.

Seemingly materializing in his hands from thin air, the spear was a cobalt blue and shaped like a legless dragon twisting its body as though it were flying. The spear’s single point jutted from the forehead of the dragon as though it were a horn. At the other end of the spear was the tail looping to form a menacing looking hook.

Both Max and Malacoda were shocked beyond words when Peanut, having swept away Maly’s spear, brought his own spear back up and slashed Malacoda across the cheek. It was only a tiny little cut but that didn’t matter to the demon. What mattered is that this impudent mortal has wounded him.

For that he would pay.
-------------------------------------------------------
Grape had attempted to steal the vixen’s sword from her but it would only phase out of her hands and back into the hands of its master. She tried to trick Youko into stabbing a tree with her sword to get it stuck but she would slice through the trunk as though it were butter. Bit of a mistake when Youko turned her idea on her by trying to cut down the tree to make it fall on her.

Though that’s not to say Youko was having an easy time either. No matter how she attacked, the red suited feline dodged every swing. Youko tried stabbing and thrusting when slashing didn’t work, and then hacking and chopping like a madwoman when that failed too. But Grape’s cat-like agility, enhanced from her new powers, kept her from harm’s way.

Grape managed to get on the offensive for a short while by kicking the sword out of the vixen’s hands. With Youko weaponless, Grape was able to land a few good punches and kicks before the sword materialized in Youko’s hands once more.

Grape was starting to feel really annoyed by now. The vixen never seemed to tire so she never had an opening in her swings Grape could exploit. Grape’s endurance was enhanced by her new powers but she was still a normal cat underneath the suit. Sooner or later fatigue would catch up to her and she would be in big trouble.
-------------------------------------------------------
Malacoda charged at Peanut with a level of ferocity previously unseen. Peanut barley had enough time to parry the first swing from the demon’s spear before locking his spear with the demon’s. The two stood opposite each other, pushing their spears against one another, as if they were having a contest of might rather than a fight to the death.

Malacoda was seething with anger, no mortal has ever wounded him before and now he wears his first scar in over a century given to him by a dog? Never before had the demon felt so insulted. Malacoda broke out of the struggle with a sudden burst of strength, knocking Peanut unto the ground. The giant lifted his spear above his head with the intent of piercing his blue-clothed advisory through the stomach and pinning him into the ground.

But his desires for vengeance was cut short, or rather ‘slammed’ short, by a massive war-hammer striking his side causing him to fly an absurd distance through the air before landing painfully on the ground. Malacoda looked up and saw that the Yellow ranger, in the scuffle between Maly and Peanut, had managed to obtain his own weapon: A metallic war-hammer with a shaft nearly as big as him and a mallet roughly the size of a large television. One end was pointed while the other was curved and blunt. The pointed end resembled a griffon’s wing while the blunted end resembled a claw gripping a smooth spherical stone.

If Malacoda had X-ray vision, he would have noticed Max’s trademarked toothy grin beneath his helmet. Max raised the hammer into the air before setting it on his shoulders, his posture completely nonchalant. “It’s hammer time.”

“Max I’m sorry, I know we’re supposed to be teammates and everything but that was just a terrible pun.” Peanut said, shaking his head.
-------------------------------------------------------
“Mind if I ask you something?” Grape asked. She half expected Youko to be shocked enough by the sudden suggestion of conversation. If she did, it probably would have given her window of opportunity to strike and turn the fight around.

No such luck as Youko just continued swinging her blade as she responded. “What… do you… want to… know?” She said, huffing each word out between swings. While Grape was mostly trying to distract her, there was something that was bugging her about this purple fox. Grape jumped up into the top-most branch of a tree, keeping away from Youko’s blade for the time being and giving her a chance to talk.

“When you and the big guy up there decided to separate us, why did you decide to fight me one-on-one?” Grape asked. What was so special about her that made Youko want to fight her and her alone?

Youko was not prepared for the question but smiled all the same. “Let’s just say I have a personal history with the deity whom you are modeled after.” That just confused Grape even more. What does she have to do with the Kitsune? However, before she could ask another question, Youko suddenly decided that they were done talking. With a flourished slice of her scimitar, Youko cut through the trunk of the tree causing it to fall to the ground with a loud *BOOM!*

Grape’s suit managed to keep her from taking too much damage but she was still pinned underneath the tree’s heavy weight. As she struggled to pry the tree off of her, she saw Youko approach her now defenseless opponent, twirling her sword this away and that in a menacing series of motions. “Now if you’re really so cross with being away from your buddies, I’ll make sure to finish them off right after you so they can follow you all the way into the afterlife.” Youko brought her sword high above her head and brought it down as fast and as hard as she could muster.

*clang!*

For the second time that day, what should have been the sound of a blade meeting flesh was instead the sound of metal hitting metal. In Grape’s hand was a katana blade that seemingly came from nowhere. The blade was made from gleaming silver metal lined with crimson. The handle was gold with black linen cross-hatching from the butt to the hilt which was shaped like a fox’s head, the blade extending out of its gaping mouth.

With a burst of strength, Grape pushed Youko away from her and sliced the part of the tree pinning her down. As she got up, Youko could just feel the look of absolute rage coming from underneath the ranger’s red helmet. Grape stood fully erect and brandished her sword in front of her, pointing directly at the violet vixen. “Lesson #1, never threaten my friends.”
-------------------------------------------------------
Malacoda was trying to get steady on his feet. That last blow from the yellow one really knocked the wind out of him. Malacoda’s mind was reeling from everything that was happening. These two mere mortal boys were fighting him and yet still they live. Worse than that, they were winning.

Malacoda barely got to his feet when Peanut charged directly for the giant. Malacoda noticed Peanut grip his spear in manner preceding an upward strike. Malacoda prepared himself, if he could manage to disarm the blue one and finish him off before he recovered than Malacoda should have no problem with the yellow one. When Peanut was five feet away, Malacoda brandished his spear in way most effective for blocking an upper swing.

He waited and… watched helplessly as Peanut twirled his spear downward and stuck the blade into the ground. Peanut actually managed to pole-vault over Malacoda and grab the demon by the neck with the hooked end of his spear. Malacoda tried to pry the hook off his neck but with every movement, the Blue Ranger would just pull down harder and harder. “NOW MAX!!” Peanut yelled.

Malacoda looked across the field to see the Yellow Ranger lift his hammer above his head. With a mighty battle cry, Max slammed his hammer into the ground when… nothing happened. Needless to say, both rangers were at a lost for word’s

“What the heck was slamming into the ground supposed to do?”
“I thought it would create a shockwave or break the ground apart or something!”
“Why on earth would it do any of that?!”
“BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT GIANT MAGIC HAMMERS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO!!!”

But their bickering was cut short when a panel on the top of the hammer’s mallet opened to reveal an extremely large cannon.

*FSHWOOM!!!*

A large burst of energy blasted out of the cannon and shot Malacoda dead-center on the chest. The resulting explosion causing him to go flying over the edge of the hill and fall down to the bottom, screaming all the way. The two rangers looked at the now smoking spot where Malacoda was blasted as there gazes travelled to the hammer, which was retracting its cannon back inside with the panel closing after it. Max gave an unnaturally large grin. “That works too!”
-------------------------------------------------------
Grape didn’t exactly know how she knew how to use her new weapon. It just sort of came naturally to her. Every time Youko came lunging in with her sword, Grape was able to pinpoint the exact movement needed to counter-attack. Grape was slowly going more and more into the offensive side of the fight. With every swing of both swords, Youko found herself defending against Grape’s attacks just as much as the feline.

As they struck their swords against one another one last time, they both pushed each other away as far as possible. As the two got each of their footing back they just stopped.

Youko stared into Grape’s eyes and Grape stared back. The two swordswomen just stood apart from one another for what seemed like hours. Neither of them moving a muscle until, as if an invisible spectator just shot off a starting pistol, the two charged at each other. Both screaming with the fury and passion of battle at their upmost limits within the warriors. Grape and Youko swung violently at each other before they seemed to just pass by one another.

Grape stood with her back to Youko, her blade extended in front of her. Youko’s position was a mirror to Grape’s. They both stood that way for a few slow silent minutes until the sound of something heavy hitting the ground hard filled the empty air around them.

Grape turned around to see Youko standing on one knee, her hands clutching her side in pain and her sword on the ground. The weapon was quickly dissolving into a wisp of smoke as Youko struggled to her feet. The look she shot Grape was one of pure malice and hatred.

“Don’t get to cocky Power Ranger, Malacoda is still up there with your friends, he should be finishing up with them as we speak.” Youko said, forcing a triumphant grin to appear on her pained face.

*FSHWOOM!!!*

The two looked up at the hill at the sound and saw a figure falling off the hill and straight towards them. With a sickening sound, Malacoda smashed into the ground in front of Youko. Youko, completely shocked and scared that her friend wasn’t moving, bent down to check his pulse.

He was still alive despite the numerous burns across his body. Youko gave a sigh of relief, and propped Malacoda’s arm over her shoulder. The demon was easily twice the vixen’s size but Youko managed to lift him well enough. Youko looked over at the Red Ranger who was still in shock of the giant red man just seemingly falling out of the sky. “Congratulations, you’ve won this battle. But the war will never be over until Skath walks this earth again.” Youko snarled. She raised her hand into the air and, in a flash of light and a puff of smoke; Skath’s two generals were gone.
-------------------------------------------------------
After powering down, the trio managed to get Tarot to a hospital. They offered to stay with her through the night but she insisted they go see the Babylonians and report their success.

Peanut of course was a bit harder to convince but, after a while, the three found themselves back in the basement/altar of Tarot’s house. The Babylonians and Sabrina listened intently as they gave a summary of the events that transpired at the park.

The Spirit Dragon grasped her chin in deep thought. “No doubt they have gone into hiding to gather their strength. And when they recover, they will no doubt try and find the Nexus once more.”

Kitsune gave a cough in order to divert attention to him. There was something he wanted to say. “Now Grape, I understand you took on the Red Ranger powers more out of circumstance rather than any actual desire to do so but if you wish to stay…”

“Save it Foxy-Brown, If I get rid of these powers now then who the heck is gonna keep these two noonies from getting into trouble?” Grape said pointing at the boys. Under normal occasions, they would have taken insult with her words. But if it meant keeping her on the team, they happily took it with a grain of salt.

Kitsune smiled a warm smile at the new group of Power Rangers. The war against Skath and his followers may still linger on but he knew in his heart that the earth was In good hands. “Well then, why don’t we make it official? Grape Sandwich, you have been chosen to become my new avatar. You will use the power of the kyuubi to fight against Skath as the Red Ranger. Do you agree?”

Grape put a finger to her chin, looking as if she was in deep thought. “Yea sure, why the heck not.”
-------------------------------------------------------
After the group had a small time just enjoying each other’s company, mortal and god alike, everyone decided it was time to go back to their normal lives, at least for the time being until Skath’s generals strike again. Sabrina did a little magic on their morphers to make them appear as nothing more than necklaces with charms resembling their respective emblem.

“If anything goes wrong, I’ll contact you guys via telepathy. Once I do, your necklaces should turn into your morphers automatically.” She told them.

Peanut and Max left first, the two of them still gushing over how they defeated Malacoda. Sabrina went after them in order to retire to her room for the night. Grape stayed behind because she wanted to speak with a certain Babylonian in private.

Kitsune was just about to cut his connection to the altar when he heard Grape’s voice calling out to him. “Hey Foxy-Brown, can I ask you something.” Kitsune smiled at his new apparent nickname. He never had a nickname before. “Yes child? Is something bothering you?”

Grape explained to Kitsune how one of the generals wanted to fight Grape alone because she claimed to have a history with Kitsune.

Kitsune furrowed his brow in deep thought. “Do you know her name?”
Grape shook her head sadly. “I don’t, all I know about her was that she was a fox like you, a purple fox.”

The minute Grape said those words, she could have sworn she saw a look of terror flash through Kitsune’s face. But before she could ask about it, he gave her a warm smile. “I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about. You should probably get some sleep. Don’t know when Skath is gonna strike again.” Kitsune said extremely quickly. Before Grape could protest, he cut off connection and found himself back in the Celestial Planes.

Kitsune gave a heavy sigh as he slapped his palm against his face. “Why, why Youko? Why would you do this?” Kitsune tried to compose himself, tried to stay calm but the memories came flooding back all at once. “My own daughter.”
-------------------------------------------------------
Malacoda woke up to the smell of something rancid. As he opened his eyes he saw a violet furred paw holding a vial of smelling salts near his nose. Malacoda tried to prop himself up as he realized he was on the cold hard ground. Big mistake as a jolt of pain raced across his entire body. He felt a firm yet gentle hand pushing back to ground.

Reluctantly, Malacoda obeyed. He looked up and saw Youko staring down at him. If it were possible for red eyes like Youko’s to have a gentle and caring look to them, it would be now.

“Thank you.” Was all he said to her, his guardian angel. Imagine, a demon with a guardian angel. Youko gave a sad smile, bent down, and gave Malacoda a long and passionate kiss.

Awesome scene! So they have their weapons. Will they have the beast machine thingies too?

The villains are really well thought out here! I like them.

Can't wait for the next update!

You mean Zords?
If so, then yes. But it won't be until episode 4. I'm still more-or-less building up the setup of the series.

Okay everyone, here's the thing.
As i'm sure you've all noticed I am attempting to write as if it were a season of the actual show. Now that the status quo has been established the chapters are going to be a lot more 'episodic' as it were.
Now since I'm writing it like the show, the episodes are going to hold a monster-of-the-week type format. Here's the problem though: I suck at coming up with new and original monsters.

So I'm going to be a lazy dolt and ask you to do it for me! (YAY!)
I'm not asking you to write the episode for me, just something along the lines of powers and appearance. That's really all I need.
I promise that whatever you guys come up with that get's into my story, you will be credited for the work and I will do my very best to do your monster justice.
If you have any suggestions for your monster for me to use, feel free to write them down and I will look them over. But they aren't needed.

I'm sorry if this just seems like I'm a lazy and unimaginative noony. Think of it this way, You guys are Super Sentai and I'm Saban who is shamelessly ripping off you're stock footage.

Krot- A crocotta.

Able to mimic any voice or sound to trick people, and a master of disguise, this monster uses sabers he can form from his many teeth to fight.. Although he specializes in surprise attacks, he is an exxcellent swordsman, and has a thick, nearly impenetrable hide. But if you defeat him, his eyes turn into jewels that can aid in foreseeing the future.

Selan- A Siren

Uses her voice to ensnare males to do her bidding. She is not against forcing comrades to fight each other for her own amusement or in defense. She can also use her voice to create sonic bursts if all else fails. Long range fighter mostly.

Calpren- A creature of darkness. Basically a shadowy figure in a cloak with black bat like wings.

Imbued with the powers of the Harpies, he is able to bring out the negative emotions and memories in others. He can bring up fears, painful memories, even conjure nightmares in others. He immobilizes his opponents and then just comes up behind them to finish them off, leaving husks of what was once a living being behind.

Got the first two from Mythological bestiaries. The last is based off the harpies of course.I've got a million of them if you want more!!

Episode 3: Karate Kat
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Max was sure this could be legally considered as kidnapping. He here was, with plans to enjoy a lazy weekend after fighting Skath’s generals, being dragged almost literally by his arms. His so-called teammates having seen fit to torture him with... with…

“Martial Arts classes? Seriously?!” Max said incredulously. For indeed that is where Grape and Peanut had dragged the helpless Yellow Ranger. The three stood outside the doors to what was once a dance studio which has recently been refurbished as a Mixed Martial Arts dojo. The neon sign reading ‘Shangri-La Dojo’ shined palely in the bright sun.

The dojo had once been an abandoned dance studio and has only a month ago been transformed into the, as Max puts it, ‘House of Torture’ it is today.

Grape turned towards her captive and gave a tired sigh. Max had been whining about this ever since she and Peanut came to him with the idea. Well, the whining didn’t start until after he screamed in terror and tried to run. “Max, you and Peanut barely held your own against the Formless before I got there. And if it wasn’t for the police car, I doubt I could have done much better.”

Max turned to her with pleading eyes, as if his sea-foam eyes would melt her heart, forcing her to release him. No dice, Grape’s steel heart remained unmelted. “But that was before we could morph. Once we got our powers, we all kicked butt and took names.” Max smiled widely. “Just ask that Malacoda fellow. You know he ain’t going to be moving for a while after what Peanut and I did to him.”

Peanut couldn’t help but smile at the fond memory. The look on Malacoda’s misshapen face when the cannon popped out of the hammer was priceless. Still, Grape did not falter in her grip on Max’s shoulder. “And what happens, pray tell, on the chance that the morphers won’t work again during an even bigger threat than a couple of Formless?” Max had nothing to say to that so Grape took that as a sign to continue. “And think of it this way: If we know Martial Arts then we will be even more effective in a fight, morphed or otherwise, and you will be able to kick even more butt and take even more names.”

While that all did sound nice to Max, what didn’t sound nice was the fact that he would have to spend all of his weekends at this place working until he drowned in his own sweat as the dojo was only open in the weekends. “Who made you the boss of us anyway?” Max asked in an annoyed tone.

Peanut and Grape looked at each other in confusion before simultaneously saying “You did.”
“When you said we needed a leader, we agreed to put it to a vote and Grape won unanimously.” Peanut said matter-of-factly.
“Sabrina and Tarot even made me a little plaque that said ‘You’re the Boss!’” Grape said bluntly.
“They put sparkles on it!” Peanut said in a tone that suggested…
“Alright alright already, geez.”

Knowing full well he wasn’t going to be able to win this argument, Max sighed and allowed Peanut and Grape to drag him into the dojo.

Grape looked around the main training area as they stepped through the door and noticed the place seemed to be deserted. “Hello!” She called out. “We want to enroll here!” Luckily, she heard someone call out from down the left-side hall. “Give me a minute please. I’ll be right with you!” A voice called out. “Take your time, really!” Max pleaded. “No need to rush!”

Sadly, the Sensei of the dojo came in to the main area to meet them after only a few seconds. Suffice to say, the three were shocked to find out who it was and were even more shocked to find him covered in bandages.

“Fido?” Peanut said, for indeed the police dog was standing there in front of the trio wearing a black gi and bearing bandages on his head and around his arms. Fido was just as surprised to see the three of them there as they were. “What are you guys doing here?” Grape blushed in embarrassment. She didn’t think the person training them would be anyone they knew. “Uh, well we came here for Martial Arts lessons.” She said. Fido gave an embarrassed smile and put his hand behind his head. “Yea, I guess that’s kinda obvious.” After all, she did say they wanted to enroll.

Max forgot about how much he didn’t want to be here when he noticed the bandages Fido was wearing. “What happened to you? Did you get run over by a bus or something?” Fido gave a grim look at the three. He was trying to forget about what happened and had hoped that everyone would just ignore the bandages. But he realized that he would just be ignoring the elephant in the room. “Well, there was a riot in the Carnaby District in town the other day. I don’t know what those punks were packing but they wiped the floor with me and my unit. Don’t know where they ran off to though.”

Fido didn’t notice the three staring at the ground when he mentioned Carnaby District. They knew full well that Fido didn’t get beaten by a bunch of punks but found it best to not say anything. Peanut tried to get everybody’s mind off the subject. There was something he wanted to ask Fido anyway. “So Fido, how did you get to be the owner of this place? I didn’t think ‘Martial Arts Sensei’ was one of the jobs pets could have.” Like being superheroes.

Fido smiled and said “I don’t own the place, my dad does.” He noticed the confused faces on the trio and realized he needed to clarify. “Back when this place was a dance studio it belonged to his aunt. But business was too slow so she was forced to shut the place down. This whole building was about to be torn down to make way for a parking lot but my dad convinced his aunt to give him the deed. He wanted to make a comic book shop here. But everyday he lost more and more interest until I convinced him to turn it into a Martial Arts dojo. So I don’t own the place, I’m just the acting Sensei.”

The three listened intently to his story before nodding. Max, more specifically, was nodding asleep. Grape punched him in the arm before she continued to speak. “We’ll we would like to enroll here if you wouldn’t mind teaching us.” Fido smiled as he went to a closet in the back of the room. “So long as you guys don’t mind paying 80 dollars a year.” He said, pulling three sets of white gis out of the closet.

The three (minus Max) smiled and nodded. “We already talked to our parents and they said as long as we stick through with it, they would be willing to pay for our lessons.” Peanut said. “So, how soon can we start?” Peanut and Grape were eager to start training as soon as possible. Max on the other hand was eager to start eating a sandwich as soon as possible. “Well, classes don’t start until the afternoon so come back around 3:00 today with the money and we can get started right away.” Fido said.

With that, Max pulled himself from his teammates grasp and ran out the door. He had five hours of freedom and by Pete he was going to enjoy them.

Fido and the remaining rangers stared at the still open door in confusion before Fido broke the silence. “I have to ask, why were you guys holding onto his shoulders?”
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Malacoda woke up to two different smells, one pleasant and the other not so much. The pleasant smell was a bowl of scrambled eggs which he took gratefully from the violet vixen’s hands. Malacoda got up from his bed slowly but surely. One of his many abilities as a demon was that he healed much faster than a normal human. An injury like the one he sustained after that battle on the hill would have put a normal man to bed for many months. But Malacoda needed a single day to recover, though the bedside manner of his companion was a nice touch. He and Youko enjoyed breakfast together, one of the few normal things they do together, before they got right back to work. Malacoda found out that the second, not so pleasant, scent was the various incenses Youko was burning in the basement. He knew they were supposed to give off a calming scent but he never really enjoyed them. The burning scent reminded him too much of home.

As before, Malacoda began the incantations for a cross-dimensional window while Youko repainted parts of the rune that had faded since its last use. When the window materialized itself they saw the face of their master, the very angry face of their master. “Well, I’m just going to assume you completely failed in your mission to destroy the Nexus because here I am speaking to you again and yet I’m still trapped in the void!

Youko cringed at the harshness of Skath’s voice but Malacoda stood firm. “We beg for your forgiveness Master. We were about to locate the Nexus when we were met by… resistance.” Malacoda thought that was the best way to word the escapade in the park. Sadly, Skath was not satisfied by that answer.

“Resistance from what dare I ask? What could this world offer you that you would find it necessary to abandon your duties to your god!” Skath voice resonated with so much power that in that instance the incenses all flickered out at once. “I doubt my fellow Babylonians could offer much ‘resistance’ seeing as how they cannot directly face me!” Youko composed herself before making a statement that would no doubt be the most embarrassing thing she ever said. “We were defeated by… Power Rangers.”

The room became so quiet, Skath could hear a pin drop clear across dimensions. “Power… Rangers… You mean to tell me that my two most powerful generals were defeated by Power Rangers! That Malacoda, warrior prince from the realm of Havix, and Youko, daughter of the Great Kitsune himself, were defeated by spandex clad clowns!

“Master, we…”
“NO EXCUSES!!!!!” Skath yelled, dust drifting down from the basement ceiling. He turned away from the window in order to calm himself. It’s doing nobody any good to yell like a five year old. “Well, since it seems that you two are not enough for this job, I’m going to have to search for some new help.” Youko eyes flashed with anger for a second. “Master, Malacoda and I are more than enough to handle those Rangers. Please, give us a second chance.” Skath stared at her through the window, his eyes glaring with a ferocity that could burn the world if it were ever released. “You two have had your chance. Oh but don’t you fret my dear Youko. My use for you two is far from over. Let’s just say I’m bringing in some mercenary power.” With a wave of his hand, Skath’s cosmic power flowed through the window and formed into a single Formless.

Skath turned his gaze towards Youko once more. “Tell me Youko, what do you know about the Formless?” Youko was surprised by the question but she shut her eyes in concentration as she tried to remember what her father told her about these creatures. “That they are living only by the basest of definitions. That they are only the idea of life.”

Skath nodded. “That’s correct. Now tell me how you can turn an idea into reality?” Youko had nothing to say to that, her understanding of these creatures was about as vague as the creature’s existence. Skath smiled from within the shadows. “Through a mixture of willpower, supplied by me of course, and imagination.” Youko and Malacoda almost burst out laughing when they heard the all-powerful Skath say something so silly.

The key word being ‘almost’. What kept them stoic was the knowledge that if they were to laugh in his face, they would surely face the consequences.

Instead they watched with intent as Skath shut his eyes in concentration. In the Void Skath was trying to find a possible candidate within the clustered thoughts of humanity. ‘There, this one will do quite nicely’ Skath opened his eyes to the view of two horribly confused generals. Skath sighed, knowing they at least deserved an explanation. “I have searched through the minds of earth’s mortals in search of something, or rather someone, who could aid us. Thank goodness for cartoonists.” That just served to confuse them even more. Honestly, these two were hopeless. Skath supposed a demonstration was in order. With the image of the creature he found within the imagination of a comic book artist, Skath channeled that image into a large mass of cosmic force that engulfed the Formless.

Malacoda and Youko watched intently as the Formless shifted and changed from within the cocoon of energy. When the energy dissipated, a new creature stood in the place of the Formless. I appeared to be wolf-like but instead of fur, it was covered in pitch black scales. Its mouth, filled to the brim with razor-sharp teeth, made up at least half of its face. Skath seemed pleased with his creation, not only did it look menacing enough but he also enjoyed the absolute shock on Youko’s and Malacoda’s faces.

“I would like to introduce you to your new teammate. His name is Krot. Show him the ropes, make him feel welcome and use him to crush the Power Rangers into dust!” And with that, Skath cut off his connection to the window causing it to disperse in a puff of smoke.

Youko and Malacoda turned to their new companion. He looked back at them with a bored look in his yellow eyes. “So Skath said something about destroying the Power Rangers?” Youko gave a slight nod, unsure of what to think of this new ordeal. “We’ll what are we waiting for?” Krot asked the two as he walked past them and out the door. He suddenly turned back towards the two generals. “Oh, I know Skath said were supposed to work together and all but I think it would much better I you two just stayed out of my way and let me take care of those bozos.” Krot gave a big (and I mean BIG) toothy grin when he noticed the insulted look on Youko’s face. “Can’t have you two making me look bad now can I?” Krot said as he left the house laughing. Youko was about to drive her scimitar through the wolf when she was held back by a large red hand. “Youko, remember what Skath said. And remember, he told us not to get in the way.” Malacoda said to his friend, giving her a small wink. Youko was confused at first but found herself smiling as she realized what he meant. “You’re absolutely right Maly. Let’s go show our new ‘friend’ around the city.”

Both of the generals had large grins on their faces as they walked out the door. She suddenly found herself in a win-win situation. If Krot didn’t want their help, than they wouldn’t give any. That way if Krot did manage to beat the Rangers, that was victory for them. If the Rangers defeated Krot, there would be no one to blame but Krot and Skath would have to give the task of killing the Rangers back to them. Either way, she was going to make sure that the Rangers were put through utter torment.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Max was being put through utter torment. He had only been training with Grape and Peanut for a few hours before he just plopped on the hard floor of the dojo.

Fido sighed at the pitiful sight. Grape and Peanut, all things considered, were model students. They were patient, diligent, and hardworking. But Max was the exact opposite of these things. They had barely got past warm-up exercises before he started whining again.

“Alright, break time everyone!” Fido said. Peanut and Grape got out of their stance before going to their water bottles. Max was about to join them when Fido held him back. “Max, do you even want to be here?” Max gave Fido an annoyed look. “Nah, I’m having the time of my life, working myself to the bone, drowning myself in my own sweat. It’s great!”

Fido decided to refrain from telling him that they were still on basic white-belt exercises. “Max if you don’t even want to be here than why even bother enrolling?” Max was about to say something lines of ‘Hey, great idea!’ before storming out the door but instead he looked over to Peanut and Grape and gave a sad sigh which Fido noticed. “Max, you shouldn’t be doing this just because they told you to.” Max shook his head. “That’s nice of you to say but that isn’t the problem. Trust me, I would have no problem walking out of here if it was just about these two.”

Fido raised an eyebrow. “Well then what is it about?” Max was trying to figure out something to say when he noticed his necklace start to glow yellow. Max gave a tiny yelp as he covered the griffon charm with his hand before Fido could notice it. He looked over to Grape and Peanut and saw they were doing the same. Max was saved when Grape came over, tucking her bracelet into her gi, and pulled Max away before Fido could ask what was going on.

“Fido, I’m sorry but something just came up. Do you think it would be alright if we left and came back in an hour or two?” Grape said while she inched towards the doors along with the boys. Fido gave a confused shrug. “I suppose that’s alright. I mean it’s not like I can keep you here.” Fido said, looking directly at Max during that last sentence. Max looked away.

Grape however didn’t notice as she gave a smile and salute towards her Sensei. “Thanks Fido! We won’t be gone long.” And with that the three ran out the door leaving Fido more confused than ever.

“Those three are so lucky they’re my only students.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as they were out of earshot from anyone, the three immediately heard Sabrina’s voice in their heads.

Guys! There’s trouble at the mall. The viewing globe is showing images of some weird creature terrorizing everyone.

The three looked at each in confusion. “What does Skath want in a mall?” Grape asked the voice inside her head. Only then did she realize just how strange her life became.
Max shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe that foxy chick wants some new shoes?” After Grape slapped Max, Sabrina continued her briefing.

Actually it’s neither of the two generals you guys fought before. This is someone completely different.

That didn’t sound the least bit good. If it was some new guy, than who knows how many guys Skath has on standby. “Sabrina, were going to head down there now. Keep us posted on anything else that happens.” Grape said to thin air, trying to picture Sabrina in front of her.

Roger that.

When none of them heard Sabrina’s voice anymore, they took it as a sign that she cut the connection. Grape turned towards her teammates. “You guys ready?”
Peanut smiled like a little boy. “I love this part!”

The three stood side by side as they held their wrists up to their chests. The charms on their necklaces becoming a red, blue, and yellow light that wrapped around their wrists before taking the form of their morphers. They raised their morphers into the air and called out:

Babylon Guardians, Power Up!

After a brilliant flash of golden light, the Babylon Rangers stood tall and proud. The Rangers took a few seconds to allow the energies of the suits to work their way around their bodies before sprinting towards the mall.

And thus the start of episode 3. Sorry it took so long though. My cousin was visiting for the week and I got distracted. Plus school is starting soon so updates are gonna happen a lot less often. I would like to thank Copper for designing this episode’s Monster-of-the-week: Krot. Give him a big hand everybody!
