I sent this to Rick, who suggested starting a thread for all to put their Openermas Carols and poems. An idea I encourage.

Here's my opener(heh):-

ON OPENERMAS EVE

On Openermas Eve
the critter does hop,
bringing hope to the world.
and gifts to the poor,
he's like our own special shop.

If you need a door,
believe and he'll bring it
If you need something more,
stand and just sing it.

He sees when we're faithful
he hears our loud prayers
like any great saviour would
and he loves you, for sure,
And his gifts show he cares.

If you want a cart,
Believe and he'll drive it.
If your desired needs a heart,
pray and he may bring it.

He plays dead at our passing;
for fun we admire.
He acts scared when in our wood
and praises our courage
which raises our love higher.

Our reverence for him is deep
and, with Tiger, he needs it.
Our trust he gives in his sleep
and, to honor him, we use it.

We endure the winter
for he is in spirit with us
We know he'd be here if he could
but others there need him
so don't make a fuss.

To be with us he endures it,
their lies and jibes and taunts.
Some say he doesn't deserve it,
but our reverence he never flaunts.

So visit him on Openermas Day
and stand in awe to hear him speak
as the voice awaited since childhood,
in Babylon Gardens says the holy words,
'Leave me alone, you woodland freak!'

Any that works. I'm pretty sure they'd go Acapella. Anyhow, as we're in at the birthing of a religious holiday, why would we assume they'd use a known tune?
