I don't know the full details, but judging from the way his eye is shining, his plan likely has something to do with Grape and how he scanned her earlier. What was played for laughs was likely more serious than he let on.

The Cooper test is a terrible school test with military origins, in which you have to run as much as you can without a stop in a time limit. Of course, to even get a C required suffering. And i was smoking already at the times... oh well. *giggles*
