They rolled a 6 total for their listen check. You could get as close as you wanted to them, so I assumed you wanted to listen to their conversation. They have no idea you're there.

Probably; I don't know what everything's called. I just roll and tell the number.

For first interactions between people, I like to use a diplomacy check to see if they like you or not. Dr. Prower, you rolled a 7, so he's indifferent. I made him react accordingly.

What's the light spell supposed to do exactly?

I think it's supposed to make objects glow. I can't get the wiki to load to be sure. Keeps saying the server connection was reset.

This spell causes an object to glow like a torch, shedding bright light in a 20-foot radius (and dim light for an additional 20 feet) from the point you touch. The effect is immobile, but it can be cast on a movable object. Light taken into an area of magical darkness does not function.


So it's a touch effect. You won't be able to cast it on a branch near them unless you were touching the branch.

Oh...Are there any penalties if one tries to do ranged combat in it?

It would actually be easier to hit someone who has light shined on them. The light would be in there eyes so it would be harder for them to hit anything in melee or in ranged.
