How's this?

Character Name: Jenny Miles

Codename: “Pistol”

Color: This

Type: Main

Species/Breed: Rat

Age: 525human years

Neighborhood: Beacon Of Hope

Powers: She has an innate knowledge of most firearms she comes into contact with, down to being able to disable the sensor grips of about 70% of them. She has an old slug thrower type and fifty rounds for it. She is also a weapon in her own right, having been the result of several generations of geetic manipulation at times when it was legal and other times when it was less so. She has the power to project directional sonic blasts from her hands. This skill has been kept secret. Only the seniors in her office and a few higher ups in th ship would know about it. She is also a skilled driver – even if few others believe that.

Weakness: Her normal guns are vulnerable to electromagnetic interference, same as normal. Her sonic blast is reliant on having air to displace so is near useless in a void (it still would have a small point blank effect) and is less effective at high altitude/thin air scenarios.

Appearance: Blackfurred and slender, Jenny Miles tends not to get too many looks in her non descript clothes. A white shirt under a light black jacket and efficient trousers. She sometimes wears horn-rimmed glasses but that’s just to make her seem as intelligent as she really is. She has a leather belt with pouches containing small medical sprays and handcuffs

Personality: More happy go lucky than she probably should be considering the experiments she still had to go through to master her powers, this Federal investigator on board ship is often to be found at the downside of humanity and the other races and has developed a slightly macabre sense of humour. Sometimes gives the impression she’s not working on a case when she has several programs running a suspect to ground.

Other notes: She’s not one for family and has no real interest in creating one of her own. That doesn’t mean she can’t get close with people or reproduce. She’s just not looking to continue her line yet. She is also a fully qualified shuttle pilot and has a motor cycle for internal chases. She’s taking classes on rocket packs.

Sounds good Welsh! There's just one thing that needs adjusting. The "weakness" field is designed to give the characters some balance. Something that a villain can target to get past their powers so that one character can't just bulldoze through all of the problems they face and encouraging teamwork. You have a character who is proficient in weapons, a level 3 power at best, but also has a level 7 sonic pulse. The problem is that the weakness you listed is a way for villains to get past the weapon proficiency power (which doesn't need a weakness), but that still leaves her with the much more powerful sonic pulse power, so the weakness isn't really a weakness. It's more something that forces her hand. A more appropriate weakness would be something that results in her sonic weapon being useless or hindered. Something like, say, a specific material that absorbs the sonic blasts rendering them much weaker?

Well, she does have to be careful when she uses it. A sonic pulse will blow out eardrums close up. And then there are characters with sensitive hearing...

That would be about a level 4-5 sonic pulse. A level 7 sonic pulse would cause mass structural damage to large areas. Check the TVtropes link in the description for a description of the different super weights. Also, the weakness again needs to be exploitable by a villain in order to balance things. It can't be "they can't use it because people will get hurt" because that's the entire point of a fighting power anyway. If you want a logical weakness, how about they can't penetrate soundproof materials, or it can't be used in space, or it looses power in thin air or mediums that absorb kinetic energy. Those are logical weaknesses of sonic powers.

Hmmm. A sonic pulse would need air to displace to be fully effective so the closer to a void the less effective it is indeed. I shall edit the above listing.

the torque and shearing force of ANY acceleration or deceleration on a ship that massive would be insane simple because of the thrust needed to overcome inertia... how does it hold together?!

@Neon Icy Wings: Awesome! I think with you joining that's six people who are interested in playing and one who is interested in helping me with villain creation. I can set up the OOC at any time now and we can continue this there.

@Buster: Easy. It's exists in a universe where superpowers are a thing.
Seriously though, he had access to materials that can't be mass produced in earth conditions, opening up options for how to build the ship In addition, the propulsion system would be placed on heavily reinforced parts of the ship. The Beacon is a lot lighter and sturdier than it looks. Also, the ship definitely has some spacial warping technology such as gravity generators in the ship (a ship of that size still wouldn't have the gravity of the moon, so artificial gravity generators would be needed) and they could use a similar technology to accelerate all parts of the ship equally to lift some of the strain the thrusters would cause. Combined, the two would give the Beacon a decent acceleration, but it would still be slow to maneuver, if only to prevent the sudden movement from throwing people around the ship.

Come to think of it, I take it there are a lot of other investigative types on the ship as well as security?

Yep. In fact, I have ideas for arcs for early on when I'm getting you guys introduced to the ship and the layout and the play style where the players help investigate disputes within the ship. The one I have in the front of my mind I think you guys will find cool. :D

EDIT: The Beacon of Hope OOC has been posted! Please direct all questions and character sheets there. :D

Just a heads-up, everyone. My hard drive died so my computer is currently at the repair shop. I have my tablet still so you can all contact me for emergencies but I won't be posting properly for a day or two because typing much on here is a bit awkward. The good news is that my data is recovered and they're replacing the old hdd with a better, faster ssd.

Sorry for the inconvenience and I'll see you all soon!

Role play threads are like rivers sometimes. They ebb, they flow, they clog up, they dry up, they spring back, they have sewage dumped in them, they dump their sewage in the ocean and people pay for it later. They have desert and foliage filled deltas, and bows that twist and wind and twirl and narrow and expand. They get dammed up to provide power to cities so you have to take a detour or go on land sometimes until you find free shore to get back in again. The only thing you have to worry about is getting on your raft and enjoying the ride.

Don't worry about whether or not your thread is going to die. If people like it, they will post, eventually. Be encouraging, ask nicely, but don't try to control. It don't work.

Just roll with it. Something will get people excited again and then you'll have your hands full.

Just be patient and understanding. People will post eventually if they care about the thread.

Just roll with it.

People are posting. BoH is the most active RP on the forum. It was just a misunderstanding that was holding it up the past couple days. I was waiting for people to move, and people were waiting for me to move.

Remember me roo? I was at least mildly memorable, I hope. Though, maybe I should have a picture to make that easier next time. Lol.
