Re: HPU: Applegate OOC
They look good to me but I have two quick questions.
1.) Do they have owners or are they living on the street? I can't see them having jobs or training without an owner. Would their owner be a paramedic sicn ethey are too?
2.) I'm not sure if we were given exact heights in the comic but does 3' sound a bit tall for a ferret?
Other than that I think they're good.

Re: HPU: Applegate OOC
ferrets are only about a head shorter than regular pets as seen here
regular pets are about up to a human's waist. as per google, the average human waist height is 3'3". I imagine a pet head is probably about 6 or 7 inches
so yeah, 3' may be a bit tall. though we really just need to know they're ferret sized.

Re: HPU: Applegate OOC
Keene is a head shorter than King here and we know King is short. So I think it obviously varies between ferrets and I think Rock may be a taller than average ferret.

Re: HPU: Applegate OOC
Lana looks about the same size as Rock here (my her size in relation to Tiger compared to his) and Duke looks to be about the same size too.
maybe Tiger's shorter than we thought, or Rick didn't expect people to go through and figure out the relative sizes of his characters

This is highly likely buutttt...RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:Rick didn't expect people to go through and figure out the relative sizes of his characters
Tiger is the same size as Jess, much shorter than Fido and barely reaches his owner's belt. So he's not the biggest of dogs.
I'm way overthinking this, aren't I?

Re: HPU: Applegate OOC
when you consider the tallest of the pets seems to be about 3'5", based on height relative to owner, the size difference between large cats and dogs and small ones isn't likely more than 6 inches, with the ferrets being another 2-3 below that.
So knock em down to 2'8" or 2'9" and they'll just be tall ferrets, rather than freakishly large.

Most important thing I've learned from D&D?
No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

Re: HPU: Applegate OOC
All pets are about 3'4 to 3'8, minus Rex, because most full grown adults are about somewhere close to 6 or 5'8. Pets usually reach their belts or are a few inches shorter than that. Keene and the other ferrets are even shorter than King, who maybe just 3ft, so the ferrets are probably 2'9 or 2'10.
How do you know all that?
I read the comic too!

okay, so my estimates might have been off slightly. either way, 2'9" is still a more reasonable height.

And then you have Lilly who was the runt of her litter and is probably more like 2'4 or 2'6".

I changed the height to be more reasonable, I would (will) give them an owner, but I would need to know how to it.

it's just making an background character actually , you just need to edit in your character sheet about their owner(s) , what are their names , ages , what they do , stuff like that

Re: HPU: Applegate OOC
Sorry I haven't responded for a while guys. I've been waiting for TMH who's been having a few IRL issues that have kept him from the forums. Neither of us have slacked, I promise.
Buster is right though. Everyone gets carried away sometimes. I know I still do. There was a time when GMs actually had to say "don't do more than five posts per day!" because everyone was just that active and I guess since I come from that time old habits die hard.
I gave TMH permission to do that to save us writing about ten posts each for a single magic trick. I approved the post via PM before he made it too. Thanks for your concern though.Buster wrote:Also did I miss something, why is moon suddenly rping both characters by themself?
Thanks for pointing that out. I'm not GM here but it is good RP policy in general to try to make sure none of the players get left behind. Brent as GM will set limits for posting or ask people to slow down if he feels it's necessary but don't be afraid to poke him and ask for them if you think that sort of thing is needed too.Buster wrote:Um, Civ, Hunter, Hyper, shouldn't we wait to see if mickey and Brent catch up?

Sorry for being somewhat slow. I'm a proof-reader and musics analyst for a friend and have been trying to catch up on a show while getting back into the habit of frequenting these forums. I'm trying to show up more often.

Re: HPU: Applegate OOC
Brent, I don't know about in the US but over here you'll pay on average $20-$30AUD for a new novel. Non-fiction books have a huge range of prices depending on their subject and size and number of pictures etc. I wouldn't expect to pay less than $25AUD for a non-fiction book though. I know medical textbooks you'll often pay anywhere between $100-$350AUD but for books for medicine for laypeople you're probably looking at closer to $30 a pop.
Second hand books are obviously a lot cheaper.
And no worries, Leaf. I know how life gets in the way sometimes. I've had 23 hours of lectures in 3 days this week which is why I haven't had a chance to post much.

Well, yeah, I know text books cost a lot more, but I specifically said these weren't text books.Hlaoroo wrote:Brent, I don't know about in the US but over here you'll pay on average $20-$30AUD for a new novel. but most of my experience buying non-textbook books is from buying manga at about $8 or paperbacks for school for as low as $5.
I figure that these would be books that not many people would be interested in, like the braille books for Lily, and may have been on the shelves for a while, so they'd be marked down. $25 AUD is about $20 USD, marked down would maybe be $15. maybe one is a cheaper at $13.
so I'll just go double that price.
Edit: alright, I decided that Nettie sells second hand and new books. so I'll say one of the medical books is second hand at $10, the other two are marked down at $15.

Re: HPU: Applegate OOC
Oh, I know. I just put that there for interest's/comparison's sake.
I got really excited a while back when I found a specials bin where I could get four books for $20AU. Bargain!
That sounds like a good plan though, Brent.
Seems I was wrong about Lilly's books too. Here's a picture of a book printed in ink on top of the same book in Braille. Lilly's bag is going to be rather heavy.

By the way, if anyone is wondering, "dook" is an excited noise for ferrets. Lilly is this close *hold up his paw with the fingers a hairs breadth apart* to doing a full ferret war dance, which, again, is something very excited and playful ferrets do. I imagine Civilization will know all about this. .

She warned them not to play on there, as they could get hurt.
now she's calmly informing them there is a vet. panicking will accomplish nothing and she doesn't know how to fix a broken arm. Also, recall that she's "Crazy" Nettie, she doesn't necessarily react how you'd expect.

I just realized there's no reason to call the vet. the animal clinic is less than a block away from the bookstore, calling won't really give much advanced warning.
