I don't like giftcard personally, it's like dedication card... in my opinion,

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
The only reason I don't just ask for a bunch of money/gift cards for Christmas is because that ruins half the fun of opening presents on Christmas morning. I don't think I'll ever get "too old" to get excited about opening presents on Christmas.

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
Money's always so boring, 'cause there's not much thought behind it. On the other paw, I don't really want much ever. I'm not much of a materialist and I think Christmas is way too commercial anyway. But that won't stop my mom from buying stuff, so I need to come up with stuff I want too. This year I decided to get FL Studio.

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
I agree about christmas being too commercialized, but being gifted is part of the joy i find about christmas now. While i have ran out of games to buy for christmas, i know now my thoughts for christmas should be focused moreso online than anythign, specifically Housepets material =D
And while money isn't really thoughtful like Sleet said, one thing I like about it is it helps out with subscription-based things. Like Netflix!

personally i would just prefer to get money over a present
although that's partially because i couldn't think of anything to ask for
it's weird when that's a problem

Same problem here, I mostly just wanted money but I still want presents to open so I put a heap of cheap stuff like stationary on my list so I can have heaps of stuff to open but still get some money.

Part of the reason I hate giving gifts is because I'm a terrible gift-asker and I know if I give someone a gift they'll want to give me one too. Also, I'm worried I'd get them something they don't like/want.

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
I always feel weird asking my parents for things at this age. Luckily for them I'm pretty easy to shop for. I really don't mind getting money (though it's nowhere near as fun as unwrapping a gift) but as far as giving gifts go I'd much rather put in the work and find something perfect for whoever I'm shopping for instead of just giving them a gift card or whatever.

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
Yeah, this is the first year in a while that I've really had some semblance of what I really wanted beforehand. And that's just because I've had a PS3 for a year now, but didn't really have anything to play for it. I got bored of Skyrim within a few weeks, and I only had MW2 because it was cheap and I occasionally have an urge to run around and shoot things. Six months later, I traded in Skyrim and bought Fallout 3 (GoTY Edition), but I had the same problem as with Skyrim. I get distracted way too easily in massive open-world games like that, so I just run around, exploring things, and never get anything accomplished. And then I get into a period where I don't save nearly as often as I normally do, and it's THEN that I mosey into an area with super powerful monsters that massacre me. And since I don't feel like restarting all the stuff I did, I just turn off the system and go do something else.
So this year I mostly asked for games. Final Fantasy VI (since multiple people I watch on Youtube basically said it's one of the greatest games ever created ever), a Mass Effect bundle, Borderlands 2 (to play with some friends), and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Aside from that, I just asked for a couple pony-related items (a shirt and a keychain to... put my keys on) and some random items that I can use for cosplays in the future. Oh, and headphones. Because mine have been getting mauled on a regular basis by my cats, so they're not in the greatest shape.
I'll probably also get lots of candy and a couple 4-packs of Monster or something.

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
My family was not exactly well off, so my mother taught me that no matter what you are given you are grateful that someone thought enough of you to give you something in the first place.
And, you should always be grateful because you should be. Although, failure to be grateful usually got me hit with a belt...

My mom doesn't even have that much money to spare for gifts but she loves her traditional middle-class stereotypical white suburban lifestyle so much that she just can't change her lifestyle at all.

So much that I think having money to pay the bills takes priority over buying Christmas presents of similar value to those of past years.

I know how you feel. I can never just ask for what I want because I feel what I want is something they wouldn't understand. Then again my parents really don't know what my interests are since I never talk to them about it. Because of that, I just ask for clothes since new clothes are always nice and something everyone could easily afford as well.

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
I'm sorry that this is a bit of a rant but I'm sure a few of you feel the same. I hate adverts.
Youtube Ad's. Especially the ones that you can't skip for things I don't want.
Ad's before movies. Start the movie!! Just start it!!!
Car Ad's. It's a CAR!! You don't need to make it fly or get a dolphin to drive it.
UK Ad's that waste good animation. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd like it to be put to use on an enjoyable cartoon or an animated film.
Those Confused.com adverts. They're weird and sexual. Seriously, one of them shows a woman pulling a bouquet out of her crotch.

Ads are necessary for some things to be free/cheaper, so I accept them. I really do dislike the perverted ones though.

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
I can tolerate adverts, especially since if you have ad-block on, the youtubers you watch don't get money from ads, but I recently had to comment to a particular beer company because their advert was the ad shown 99% of the time, it was 30 seconds and you couldn't skip it. They even say the name of the beer in the first 2 seconds so you didn't need more than that to remember the whole ad (especially that horrendously annoying song). And I don't even drink beer!
So yeah, ads, I can tolerate. Repetitive ads, I don't like to tolerate. Repetitive ads for things I don't want ever, I can't.

ahemmm. if you guys use goggle chrome, use add block app... that is a total bless. but I turn the ads on on housepets forum and HP site and click once in a while, so that I can financially help Rick.
ads are being inefficient, so Businesses have to find alternative way of doing it, my business class teacher said... typo

If it continues to work well, I will put some money toward the person who invented it. Youtube without ads... *Squee!*

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
The people who upload the videos themselves don't get any money, right? And even if they do, I don't regularly follow anyone who probably would be getting money anyway. Hey, while I'm thinking of it, you should all go check out the Fantasy Chat Thread in the RP section. It's basically a chat thread that you can Role Play a little in without getting in trouble. Brent and me are pretty much the only two who have been regularly posting lately, so as you can imagine it rather boring kind of fast. I don't want to let this thread go inactive if I can help it, I find it one of the most fun threads on the forum. I mean, where else can you hit Brent with a salami and not get in trouble? So come on, at least go check it out.

Mulan was the best movie in the world for me Lulz. Mainly because I never liked the idea of sexism, racism etc. Also, it made me see that anything was possible with hard work and determination. I have dyslexia and have a hard time reading, especially as a child so naturally, I needed something to inspire me. Does this connection sound silly to y'all?

I'm a monetized "YouTube Partner." I get money when you click on the ads on my videos. *giggles* Not a ton of money, granted, but if more people didn't use AdBlock, I might make more!

Re: Chat Thread 39: A Heartwarming Children's Movie
I monetized my videos over a year ago and I have yet to see a dime. Granted I just posted a lot of public domain movies that anyone can use. Watch them if anyone cares, even if its to wright something nasty in the comments about it.
One thing that kills me about youtube is that they have movies that you have to pay to see, but one page down, someone has posted the same movie for free.
