Housepets!

well, of course it would have the entire archives with the ability to read the alt-text on a phone or iPod. plus the latest comic.

if it was a free app, I'd download it. If not, I wouldn't. As simple as that, from me.

Although, the person who made the app could still get money from adverts.

I might pay if Rick were the one who got the money.

I don't have a smartphone so I don't know if my usage habits would involve me using this rather than a browser, but I'd probably at least buy it out of support/fandom if this happened and I had the right kind of phone.

Wouldn't the app just be (in essence) an RSS reader? Is there a need to reinvent the wheel?

I don't know about an RSS reader, but phone browsers don't let you read alt-text.

guys the most important thing about housepets is the alt text you cannot enjoy the comic without it

It's true; sometimes Rick puts the punchline in the alt text. Or a physics textbook.

How about an app that can check the script that was used to insert the image into the page and extract the "alt" text and place it in a neat format just below the image?

Since images are essentially placed with <img src=[source url]/> and images with alt text are <img src=[source url] alt="alt text here"/> You only need a script that checks the source code for the alt text written inside the script. I'm not good at writing apps or much of anything though so don't expect me to help with unobvious things.

Well if you just want alt text on your phone Rick or the web admin could add some javascript to each comic page which checks if your browser is a mobile browser then displays the alt text as text under the picture if so.

Well, if alt-text is a problem, now you can also use the Housepets! Alt-Text Compendium as an alternative!

I mean, you can switch tabs on your mobile browser, right? (If you are reading through the archive on mobile)

Though if the app is more convenient than using browser, then maybe it is not a bad idea. Just it may or may not worth the time and effort to make one. Not that I know if it is hard or not to make one.

Edit: Oh wait, the question is would you "buy" a Housepets app. Then I guess not likely, unless it is to support Rick or something.

Since it would only provide alt text on mobile phones, I wouldn't pay for it.

I was thinking about the possiblilites of a cross platform webapp for html5 compatible browsers.

I want it.

Little to no reason and why on earth would I pay a third party to view a comic that is free?

Yes, the radio play does exist - it's an audio dramatization of the comic they were talking about, not a talk show. As far as the revival of this thread... the most recent post before yours was made nearly a year ago.
