Making intentionally wrong codes? Hmm sounds like an interesting way to "encrypt" the source code of some page, leaving a million mistakes so that hackers can't identify the correct part. Jussayin.

Also, while we're almost on the subject, I'm just going to extend an open thanks to you guys on the forums for being rather agreeable when it comes to rules and such. I'd kind of forgotten that that wasn't normal.

I think there needs to be a universal law on sequels that, starting with the fourth in a series, quality control increase exponentially. Or they, y'know, end the series. Sequels aren't inherently bad, but there seems to be a strong mindset that brand familiarity alone can carry a film.

I've never seen King Fu Panda, but I can't say I've seen very many movies that deserve five additional installments.

Also I'd forgotten that they'd made a second Madagascar... seeing the 3 there threw me off a bit.

to be fair, I think they need to plan far ahead for this kind of animation. if one of them fails, they won't start production of the next.

I never even saw the first two!

But yeah, too many sequels can just run a franchise into the ground. But as Psyke pointed out with Shrek, they can still make quality movies in different environments as long as the characters don't undergo some rapid, unexplained change and the locales are different (though a changed, i.e. destroyed or more prosperous version of a familiar locale would do).

I don't think Shrek's sequels have the same feel as Shrek did. The original had a fun kind of twisted folksy feel.
The second one was too zany and felt downright anachronistic to the first, the third one was too boring and felt kind of empty, and the fourth one was too nobody-saw-it-y.

That can also depend on change in writers or their laziness. And let's not forget actor swaps, budget constraints, and so on.

(Who writes this crap? Oh yeah, me. *giggles*)

on a side note, I also need to watch How to Train Your Dragon.

they definitely didn't have the same feel, but none of them were "bad." It was like you could have taken any of the plots and had different but similar characters play them for each individual movie and not seem like you're not good at coming up with new ideas. They're really not unoriginal, they're TO original. none of the sequels to any of their movies fit the feel of the previous movies, but they like to make a franchise out of it, so they puzzle together plots that aren't similar in the same movie series.
(I want to see me and my shadow more than any of the other things, by the way)
