Hey, for some reason it's not letting me into the IRC, it says invite only. Can somebody please help/invite me?

Eh, Alex didn't do it, the room automatically did it, It said something about +sirc or something.

I was able to get in by going to the Gamesurge website.

Still not working, Perhaps it opened for a little bit then closed on me again

Hmph. It said the same thing to myself. I had to type this for it in order to fix it:
"/chanserv inviteme #housepets" (without the quotation marks).

I'm not sure how to fix it, I'll try something now in order to do it. Until I come back, you could try inviting yourself like I did (keep in mind that you have to be registered and logged in on gamesurge. You log in on IRC by typing "/authserv auth -username- -password" (without the quotation marks and "-" lines). If it doesn't work, then tell me, so I guess I'll have to manually invite you all.

Since people don't realize that there is a housepets! IRC channel (since back then everyone knew about it and there was no need to sticky). I think its about time we Sticky this so that the newcomers to the forum know.

well if i join im not sure if i can keep it when i go back to school. they're very strict when it comes to downloads and stuff. i don't know if i can keep an out of network irc.

IRC is just a simple text based communication protocol, so unless you'll exchange big files with someone trough DCC, I doubt that you'll transfer more data in a whole day of chatting, than by a single loading of the Housepets homepage, not mentioning the forums and such.

even so, my school can track how i use the internet since i have to sign in under my school email user name in order to use the internet. i dunno if irc chat falls under their banned things list.

Why would they ban IRC? That's not very good, but at least you can try Or use VPN (or some HTTP tunnel) or some web based clients (they should communicate on the standard HTTP protocol (port 80), unlike the desktop ones, so it's like visiting an ordinary webpage, unless they ban that specific webpage too, but there's more of them, so I doubt they can ban them all).

Also, did you just change the avatar?

They would ban it because my college is pretty strict for a public university.

And yeah, i like the new avatar better because it's more hipster-esque (sunglasses and blank expression).

Just thought I'd point this rule out again. People are bending it recently, and that's a very bad thing.

If someone is annoying you by doing anything, do not do one of these things:
-Put him on ignore list;
-Tell him to **** off;
-Insult him;
-Say that you're sick of it and make a dramatic leaving.

Doing these WILL RESULT IN A 7 DAY BAN! You have been warned. This isn't up for discussion.

Do one of these:
-Ask him nicely and politely to stop whatever they're doing that's annoying you.
-Don't respond to his/her annoying lines, and he/she will eventually stop once he/she sees that no-one is listening to him/her.
-Desperately, make up something and say you have to leave.


And if he/she continues to do what annoys them, then one of these is the case:
-He/she missed you asking them to stop. Repeat your question.
-He/she doesn't want to stop, despite you asking him/her. In this case, report to me or Dylan.
-What he/she's doing isn't annoying, and only you find it annoying. In that case, rethink about what's happening.

If you're angry, sad, drunk, etc, then do not enter the chatroom until you're calmed! In these states, you can easily find anything annoying, even the @ in front of my/Dylan's name. And then you'd ask us to unauth so it's not there anymore? No! If you are in some condition where you find everything annoying, please don't open IRC. Things have gotten really out of hand.

I'm now going to enforce the swearing rule, all the spam swearing has got to stop.

Anyone that constantly swears will receive a warning from me. Continuing however, will result in a temporary ban.

Ok, so, for those of you who read the "Announcements of Leave and Return" thread, you'll know about my virus problem. Well, I'm having my operating system switched to Linux, and I'm wondering, does the IRC work on Linux?

Listen to any and all mods in the IRC. Do what they say. If they tell you to stop talking about something, then you stop. Refusing to listen, or disrespecting a mod is really, really not allowed. You don't need to agree, you don't need to understand, you just need to listen. The less arguing, the less drama there is, the less chance there is that someone ragequits the IRC. (Current count: 3-5. Not good. Not fun.) How could these rages have been avoided?

Try to remember:
-Discussion is good. Arguing isn't. Arguing quickly devolves into flames and insults. Politics usually devolves into arguing very, very quickly, so try to avoid it.
-Respect one another. If you don't like what someone is doing, tell them politely, in a PM, to stop. Really, it can actually work. If they don't, then PM a mod and ask them to, well, moderate, and ask them to help you two work it out. It's what they're there for.

Alex and Dylan have been doing a lot to try and make the IRC its best, and some of you are taking it for granted, and it's angering me. It's difficult to make good calls in a forum with a relaxed attitude, and it's even harder in an IRC with the same attitude. I don't want to mod the IRC, but the next time I see someone sassing or disrespecting a mod, I will authserv and personally ensure you see the broadside of a banhammer (IRC hammer only, of course). In addition, jokes about mod actions are not funny, whether sarcastic or not. My relationship with you, seniority, or time spent in the IRC will not save you, though it might make me pull back the blow a tiny bit.

When I became moderator for the forums, I was also given moderator in the IRC. However, I quickly decided that a self balance of power would be good, for the simple reason that it would be too much work, and my own underlying fear of having too much power to deal with. However, my de-moding myself in the chatroom never seemed to work, and the powers remained. So if I do login to the gamesurge network, I have moderator abilities. So the simple answer? I don't log in. Once I helped fix the "you have to log in" problem, I never have again logged in.

I really hope that it remains that way, but I will not stand by if someone directly disobeys a mod; that makes my blood boil.
