This is referring to a couple of drug references that were deleted, leaving the posts where alcohol was mentioned.

Yeah, there was a bit of a misunderstanding. In any case, I'm glad to get that cleared up.

Can /spoiler be used to hide non-pg references, or statements that may "invite flaming"? (with a warning of course).
I'd like to use it to post my opinions that people (or overzealous mods *jokes*) would most likely disagree with,
contains sarcasm, etc.

No. Spoiler tags only invite people to look at what was said if used in that way.

I have to ask. In order to join an RP do you need to supply a character sheet? I don't mean to sound "Noobish" but I have been in multiple forum RP's. And a lot of them require a character sheet.

Welcome to the Housepets! forum community! Please take a moment to introduce yourself in the welcome thread.

If you have questions about role playing, I encourage you to check out the Role Playing Section, especially the Out-Of-Character Sub-Forum which relates to character and campaign creation and management. You can get a lot of good information from the Main Pet-Friendly OOC Thread. If you still have questions, feel free to send a private message to ctcmjh, that section's moderator.

I also recommend spending some time in the forums dedicated to the comic and dropping by the Not the Comic section for some non-Housepets! discussion.

What exactly is trolling? Some of the things that you mentioned in the rules I have never even heard about.

Trolling is saying something specifically for the purpose of making others angry. At least, that's how I understand it.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted". While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions outside of an online context. For example, mass media uses troll to describe "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."

Source: WIKIPEDIA I remembered it as a useless site, but times are changing. I found almost everything there i was looking for. (Irrelevant:I also found a slang dictionary.)

Thanks for letting me know, I had never heard of that term before. Good thing though now I know. I would never do that to anyone.

It's been about a year since I was last here and I want to get into the RP, but I have no clue how...can I get some help? I know I need to make a character, but where do I do that? And where can I even put him? And is there a character template.

The rules have been updated. The first post has been edited. Please review the new guidelines at your earliest convenience. Updates are indicated by bold crimson text below (but not in the first post).

Welcome to the Housepets! Forums!

Minor Rules:
  • Do not derail a discussion thread. While it is acceptable to go off topic for a post or two, it is much less so to overtly change the topic for an extended period.
  • Don't stretch the page. It is completely unnecessary to write a long string of characters uninterrupted by spaces. Similarly, outside comic translations and the Media Median, there is no reason to post images more than 500 pixels wide.
  • If you must resurrect a thread, please don't do so to immediately drive it off topic. Make sure any necromancy is both necessary and relevant.
  • Keep it clean! The profanity filter has lots of words in it. Trying to evade the filter counts against you. To be safe, if you're going to self-censor, completely obliterate the word with asterisks.
  • Make sure to report inappropriate posts. Talking about posts that break the rules does nothing to resolve the situation and may be construed as mini-modding. You can get more information about reporting posts here.
  • No one-word or single-image responses. If you cannot contribute to one conversation, find another to participate in. (This rule does not apply to some forum games.)
  • Please do not double-post. Every post you make has an edit button in the upper-right corner. If you need to add more information to a thread and nobody's posted since you, use that button instead. (This rule does not apply to 'updates' in threads where those are necessary.)
  • Type coherently. Since we communicate entirely through the written word here, we have to be able to understand each other. This means, among other things, no chat speak.

Major Rules:
  • Come as you are. Outside of role playing, there's no reason for you to assume a false persona. Be honest about yourself. It should go without saying that this includes impersonation. This also includes sockpuppeting. Don't create multiple accounts to support a contrarian point of view.
  • Do not evade bans. This is common sense. If you've been banned once, coming back with another account will only get you banned again. If your ban was originally temporary, it will be extended or made permanent.
  • No Flaming. Do not openly attack, insult, belittle, or abuse another poster. You will be warned if this occurs; you will be banned on grounds of harassment if this appears to be chronic.
  • No Mini-Modding. Attempting to call out a rule-breaker by citing the rules is annoying and derails the thread. You will be warned if this occurs. Remember to report any post in violation of the rules so a moderator can handle the problem.
  • No Trolling. Any topic or response purposely intended to incite flames WILL result in a ban. Even if you attempt to have a "serious" conversation, and bend or tiptoe around the board rules as a result, this counts as trolling.
Not for Discussion:
The following items are not appropriate for the board and will result in post deletion and/or thread closure.
  • Current politics, religion, and other potentially controversial issues outside of the context of the comic, especially as far as it pertains to creating an environment in which to flame others for their viewpoints.
  • Drugs or criminal activity, including obtaining mp3s, movies, or computer programs illegally.
  • No shipping! While many shipping threads start out silly and fun, they can quickly degenerate into arguing and creepiness. Do not make threads or signatures promoting your favorite pairing. This includes forum member shipping. It is acceptable to discuss romantic couplings in the current comic thread and the role playing and fan fiction sections in the context of comic discussion, a role playing adventure, fan art, or fan fiction.
  • No solicitation. Do not create a thread or post requesting donations. The boards are not here for you to advertise your products or services and while we can sympathize with those who are down on their luck, you should seek assistance elsewhere.
  • Respect the moderators and their decisions. If you want to know why an action was taken, feel free to PM the moderator with any questions. If their answer doesn't satisfy you (or you think it's unfair), you may ask a global moderator for a second opinion. However, you should not make a big scene in public and disrupt the flow of conversation. Doing so will result in a warning.
  • The rating of this forum is PG-13 at maximum. That means, while it is okay to mention sex, it is not okay to be explicit about it, nor to discuss it in context of specific characters, NOR is it okay to discuss explicit violence in the same manner. Talking about sites that deal with pornography is not allowed, and linking to them will result in a warning. Posting images with explicit sexual or violent content WILL result in a ban.
  • None of the above can be discussed in any capacity on the forum, comment box, or any other board or chat room endorsed and moderated by this forum or a representative of this forum (to the extent they are acting within their capacity as a representative of this site), nor can discussion or arrangement of said activities be advertised within these areas or directly connected with Housepets in any manner.
Being here is a privilege, not a right. Your account may be suspended over matters of instigation (arranging DDoS, troll baiting) against this site and any attempt to use the board as recruitment for any illegal or other activity against the rules of this forum, including creating and advertising for boards, chat rooms, and Web sites solely for the purpose of defaming or subverting the rules of this forum, even if the activity was private or did not occur on the forum itself.

Pretty much everything has been updated anywhere between a little to a lot.
I think most of the updates are clarifications based on certain circumstances within the past year.
Either way, it's a good excuse to familiarize ourselves once again with the rules. ;) The Housepets! forum is a wonderful place and I hope it stays that way.

So I'm going to have to get rid of The Peanut and Grape fan and the Sasha King Fan sig now? And also does that solicitation rule include things for Charities like I some times posted when people where having video game marathons to raise money?

Re: Forum Rules

The shipping signatures will have to go. As far as the solicitation rule, that was drafted after several incidents of people asking for donations or offering their artistic services in exchange for money. I believe notification of charity events is fine as long as you do not benefit.

Example: 'Hey, guys, Steam's donating all proceeds to charity for the next 24 hours' as opposed to 'Hey, guys, I lost my job and I need money. Please donate to my Paypal account.'

I don't understand why the shipping sigs have to go have they really cause that many problems? And does that include my Challenger01 Fan sig too?

Edit: You know I feel I need to say it maybe I'll get modded for it maybe not but I need to get this off my chest. It seems to me that The Mods or Rick or Both want to ban shipping out right. Fine if that's what you want to do then go ahead; its your forum you can do what you want, I'm not going to like it but I would comply, but if that is what you want to do (which I'm sorry to me seems to be the case here) then just do it already. It just seems to me that getting rid of the Shipping Sigs is utterly pointless and I really don't get why your even doing it.

Some people are turned off by the shipping, really, and we don't want to scare people off. Shipping is still allowed for discussion if it's relevant to the comic being discussed, which is the main place shipping belongs anyway.

You two apparently missed the great shipping thread. It was truly a terror to behold. ;) And there is a certain two (rather common) pairings that have a squick factor depending on the person.
It is a small thing over all; not such a great burden to bear, eh?

Effective immediately, not all shipping signatures are forbidden. Only those pertaining to a coupling considered disturbing or creepy (examples: Fido/Bino or Mr. Sandwich/Grape) are restricted; other signature images will be considered on a case-by-case basis if we get complaints about them. A refined version of the shipping rule will be added in the near future.

I am glad I read that part about shipping and took down my signature before any of the mods said anything.

Fido/Bino is a thing? Ew. Do not want.

Out of curiosity, though - The examples that you gave are crack pairings, and thus already violate an existing rule, don't they? What was another rule needed for?

Presumably, borderline creepy ship banners (King and Sasha being the most popular example, considering King used to be human) that have gotten complaints will now side on the "not allowed" side rather than the "allowed" side.

Are you seriously equating rules against unrealistic character pairing with hate speech? 'Cause that's pretty cussed up.

Re: Forum Rules

I find it interesting to note that this quote you are in contention with contains only a reference to incest and Human/pet relations as creepy. :P
Also be careful throwing around the word "hate speech" (adding "borderline" doesn't really soften the statement all that much). When people say others must be tolerant of their beliefs, I feel they also have the obligation to be tolerant of the fact that not everyone agrees with them. One can disagree and even proclaim their disagreement without being hateful.
