I've never done this willfully, really. There are certain parts of you that do eventually disappear, though, For example, ones use of smilies in text. My posts used to be unreadable before I came here thanks to a saturation of redundant smilies. But that's a bit more superficial than what you guys are probably saying.

Yeah, I think "metaphor" is the right term. I also think I understand what you mean, now.

If we're talking about the phrase "locking away part of yourself", I suppose it could be a metaphor by a stretch, considering it implies that parts of yourself are a physical object that can be locked behind a door. I dunno... I'm too tired to classify figurative language right now.
