Well, it depends on what are you like to do on the holidays. If you like to stay at the seaside and lie on the beach, it's not bad, bad far from being ideal ;) There're a lot of people on them and water is almost always very cold. But personaly for me, good idea is coming here to see some monuments, like the Old Market in Poznań or Zamość, Castle in the Kraków, castle in Malbork, one of the best castles in the Europe. I completly dissuade you from going into mountains for skiing, we don't have good objects for it.

Ok, so I think the most interesting places will be Kraków, Poznań, Mazury and some places in the mountains. It'll be good combination of interesting natural places, which aren't very changed by people and also interesting outputs of Polish culture. Kraków in general is interesting place, Old Market, Castle of Poland Kings, Kazimierz (in the past city near Kraków, right now quarter of Kraków), Wadowice (place where John Paul II was born), monastery in Tyniec, salt mine in the Wieliczka (with sculptures made in the salt). In Poznań Old Market with beautifull renaissance town hall, Ostrów Tumski with cathedral, Cytadela with museum, some other beautifull churches, Malta Lake, castle in Kurnik, palace in Rogalin with beautifull gardens, Gniezno with museum of first Piasts and cathedral, Biskupin where is the reconstruction of oldes village in Poland, Ostrów Lednicki. Mountains are good for a walking and to see some other castles. On Mazury we've got a lot of beautifull lakes, this is generally low populated grounds with Puszcza Białowieska where you can see wild European bisons.

I also don't must say that the most interesting thing to see in Poznań I am ;) Also in Poznań you can see one of the best roads in whole Poland

I write you here only some of the interesting things which you can see in this places, but I think they're worth seeing ;)

to be honest if I did list all of them it will take forever  so I'mma just start with the ones I know. In my home town Bradford there is a famous and beautiful park forgot what it was called. There is the National Media Museum and there is the David Hockney Art Museum. In Leeds there is mostly shopping, very good place to shop. In York there is the castle, the cathedral, the wall and soon hopefully a furcon  . In Scarborough there is the castle and peezone park very nice but not much else. not sure if Hull and Manchester are in Yorkshire but Hull has the Sea-life centre with Europe's longest underwater tunnel and Manchester has Confuzzled  :P

I also told you about some of many things ;) I forgot to say for example about Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie (Poznan International Fair), so don't think I told you about eveything about even my city ;)

I must say that it sounds very interesting, what you said about Yorkshire, I wish I could one day see this all things :)

Mardi Gras is pretty crazy in New Orleans. I've lived here all my life and I still haven't been unfortunately... but I know they have an excessive amount of floats and decorations drifting through a crowded street with so many colors you could think you were on something. Cheers shouting and hands raised everywhere. (There is alcohol, but that is inevitable) Hails of beads flung into a crowd wildly, sometimes even coconuts too! It's something I'm going to miss when I move away. But it's definitely something to see.

This year I went to somewhere else for the parades and it rained hard during the parade but we wouldn't stop the floats. We couldn't see down the road and see the floats coming. All we saw were lights shining through the storm. Mardi Gras in a Hurricane (figure of a speech)... it was quite an experience. Ironically a tornado touched down one street over and flipped a car and caused a motorcycle racer to crash into a tree, and we didn't even know till afterwards.
