Is Fox and his father's name(Bill) a subtle reference to the X-Files? Fox Mulder being the son of Bill Mulder and all?

It is possible but i'm doubtful that it is. Fox was one of the characters from the original comic rick wrote as a child, and i doubt that rick was influenced by the x files as a child...

Ultimately though, it would be best if u sent him an email or pm or something, he may see this topic and reply, or he may not. And after all the only way you're going to get an exact answer is by asking him

But you can't be sure naming someone named Fox's "dad" Bill wasn't influenced by it.

So we go onto Rick's forum that he reads, conspire to privately contact him, get a private response, and then post that response publicly.

More direct and less shady route: ask him on the forum, publicly, and hope he responds, also publicly. Like what this thread is already doing in the first place.

Or, if you do decide to go the PM route, you could ask him if it would be alright to post his response. Much more above-board that way.

Or you could just PM him about this topic so he knows you want him to post in it and see if he posts in it.
