Something tells me that Pueblo is trying to alert his mom.

Also, gotta love the Buttons and Mindy reference in the alt text.

Don't think so. Possibly but I think he just wanted to meet the guys and Rockstar irritated him straight away.

A happy little chappie turns up
to mess with the hunting Wolf pack.
Having fun whilst being nice
and keeping them from their snack.
Going loud to thwart their fun
after reacting to their little insult
If they even think of hurting him
it’s his mother they need to consult.
The sweeter of the stalking horses,
innocently trying to interfere;
the truth is this is his ground;
the Wolves have to handle him here.

Did Zach overhear the predators and pray is polite about escaping or did Pueblo delay the wolfs long enough for Zach to leave of his own accord?

Something to think about, according to fenrirblack wolfs will kill cougars in the wild, so Rockstar Hawk may be making a legitament threat.

Okay back in the 90s animaniacs had a segment where an oblivious toddler kept getting into trouble and her dog got beaten up looney tunes style to save her. The running joke was that Mindy always called her mother “Lady.”
“No call me Mom.” “Okay lady.” *sigh

Buttons and Mindy is a segment focusing on the misadventures of Mindy, an oblivious toddler who frequently manages to get herself into dangerous situations, and Buttons, her faithful dog who is always trying to protect her (usually at his own expense).

The cartoons always end with Mindy getting out of the dangerous situation safely and her parents scolding Buttons, believing he got her in the dangerous situation.”

I hated Buttons and Mindy because of what happened to him every time. It was so cruel. But I love the “Call me Mom.”

Gale appears to be a head taller than her son, and Pueblos and RSH wolf seem to be about the same height. So we're starting to get a sense of the comparative sizes of wolves and cougars...

.... My kids loved Animaniacs which provided me perfect cover for enjoying the cartoons with them. Mindy and Buttons were special favorites. Buttons always served as a reminder that hard work and good deeds often are misinterpreted or go unnoticed and unappreciated. But he always got a Mindy hug in the end.

.... and all of us worrying about Zach and the gang can exhale for the weekend. Thanks, Rick!

Actually, Rockstar Hawk is kneeling in this strip, so Pueblo is a fair bit shorter than he and his brothers. Gale is likely around the same height as Miles and the other adult wolves, who are a little taller still than Miles' pups.

Edit: Also, looking back at the first strip Pueblo appears in, it looks like he's standing on higher ground than his mother. Their torsos are at the same height, but his mother clearly has much longer legs. So she might be a bit taller than I thought.

I figure he knows the locals worship that Skinny Rabbit and could cause problems if he ate him.

Or he's under Moms' instructions to mess with the cubs.

You think someone should tell Miles about his kids hunting without his permission?

Without permission? The whole idea behind this outing was to serve as a learnin' experience so when they went back to human civilization they would appreciate all the easy food. While it's true Miles did not explicitly, on-screen, give his cubs permission to hunt, Rick Griffin doesn't have time to show every detail and what has been shown indicates Miles wants his kids to be hunting.

(On my tablet so I hope I got the right tiny text as the quote and the proper person is being quoted.)
(Also I don't have my glasses on)

Miles did say they were to hunt. King told us as much when he used the spatulajutsu on Jack.

I'll give Miles the benefit of the doubt. He didn't know any of his neighbours would be out here and delicious.

Well, there was also the other running gag in the show that is being referenced, where Mindy would ask some random person what they were doing, and then keep responding with "why" every time they answered her until they got annoyed or just said they didn't know, causing Mindy to say "okay I love you bye bye" and leave.

My favorite scene of that was when she was doing it to an alien, they kept responding in their language.

I'm partly done with my mental health break and slowly trying to get back to professionally discussing the comic.

Do you think Pueblo went rouge in this scene? Is he doing this as part of Gale's strategy to expel the wolves or is this just his personality? Here's my thinking, Gale is going after the wolves "commando ninja style" so that leaves Pueblo to do his own thing. Now the question becomes what does Pueblo do during this time? He has two options. He can support his mother by finding the wolves and collecting intel and, as this scene shows, sabotage them (whether it's under her orders is unknown). Or is he doing this because, while he supports his mother's vendetta, he is still a little kid who enjoys (for lack of a better word) pranking those he sees as his enemy by disrupting their hunt.

The question then becomes is he doing this as part of Gale's plan or is he just being a pain in the tail?

fenrirblack wrote: The question then becomes is he doing this as part of Gale's plan or is he just being a pain in the tail?
Gale's plan. Divide and conquer was her strategy. So if he's annoying this Rockstar, then DV Sanchez is out there unsupported. The plan was to cut off Zach's escape and the rabbit is about to, well, rabbit. So even if DV can cut off the escape the second half of the hunt team is distracted.

Does this give Gale the chance to catch one of them?
Does it possibly make the wolf pups fight internally, thus weakening potential "pack tactics"?

Time (and Rick) will tell.

I know it is preferred that we not post multiple and keep it all in one, but this post is a completely different set of thoughts inspired by the comic, but not necessarily on topic to the current offering.

How do the animals in Housepets age. We know they live longer than their real world counterparts, but how do they age in other ways? Pueblo would have left him mom at 2 years as a RL cougar. Grape and Peanut were kitten/puppy when they met. Fox and Bailey's "dad" asked who got the puppies when she was getting married to King.

So at what age do animal kids go it on their own? Do those in the wild stay longer? At what age do 'civilized' humans force a mom to give up her children? When Ace, Rook and Olive start to talk, is that a sign to give them away as housepets to other people? When the pups say their first words how will their parents react? Will King have a human reaction of delight when they speak? Will Bailey be upset that this may mark the time at which she loses her pups?

Interesting thoughts, Tef. Haven't much to model in generational transitions. We do know that Fido and Sabrina are older than Grape, Peanut, and Bino ... and that Sabrina is VERY SENSITIVE about her age. Joey, on the other hand, is younger than the others ... are Dallas and Lester also?

Tarot seems older than Peanut, more Sabrina's age but maybe that's because she acts more "mature". Or more humorless...

How do the mice age?

The plot advances the age as per the flow of the comic. Although there is a template for the idea in the comic world, i accept that the pets age whenever Rick feels it's necessary. And incase you think tha'ts weird, other comics can have over 10 christmas episodes but only age 6 years to move with the plot. This is a comic. =P
