Title Text: organs are gross anyway, that's why you originally got rid of them no wait that was involuntary

Well, that was surprisingly easy.

Yes, you have to blink quite constantly.

And of course there's remembering how to use the bathroom, eating, sleeping, drinking, and many other things.

Now it will hurt when Duke tries to stab Breel in the face.

So being able to incarnate is a reward. Alright.

Let's just hope the shock of suddenly being alive doesn't give Breel a heart attack. That would be the crowning irony.

Also, it’s not unheard of for people coming back from the dead in theology - it’s just not usually so long after the fact. But if this is going to be anything more than fan service, there’s got to be some real character development. I expect for Breel to struggle with the problems associated with mortality, especially after being habituated to being immortal for so long.
Called it! :) Hoping to see even more rehabilitation in the near future.

Well that answers the question of what body Breel gets when he gets a body. I was afraid the body would be very different and Keene would 'love him no matter what Breel looked like' because I don't like it when that is used to drive a scene. I guess I needed to stick to the Third rule of Housepets!. I also didn't expect incarnating to be as easy as removing the halo. In all, I have no quarrels with how this turned out. If the option of incarnating is just a standard perk for helping out outside of heaven but nobody actually takes them up on that, I wonder why Rufus volunteered. Breel and the huskies got to spend time with Keene and Fox, but as far as we know, Rufus doesn't have any special someone, post-mortem or otherwise. I suppose we hardly know any thing about his personal life. Maybe he got a thing going with the collie at the house over but that wasn't important enough to spend comic time on. I wonder if there are other rewards for heroic actions in heaven and what they might be.

Breel's in for at least a day's worth of awkward adjustments to biology.

...though a few of them might be fun. <_<

A ring pull is all that’s needed
to prise open a can of worms.
The Heart’s not a thing that beats;
it’s the thing they have that squirms.
Paradise is perfect, Heaven’s a reward.
Good deeds are all that there is.
There’s no need to repay anything done;
He could be the first to request life’s fizz.
Leaving Heaven for his Ferret angel,
learning that he doesn’t know the score;
Breel steps down from the aether
into a world he’s only seen before.

Well, that was nice a quick! Man, it's weird to try and think about how such a thing would feel. Getting used to having to breathe and have a heartbeat again. It's not something I've seen tackled in fiction that often if at all.

Also he need to remember to eat healthy again. Can just dig into all the sweets when hungry. As we saw in heaven he did have a smartphone, so at least he should be pretty caught up with what is available in life. To me it looks like heaven(in this comic) reflects the current time on earth. So that those who have been there a long time gets new stuff when new people enters and brings their memories with them(just guessing here).

At least he knows how a camera works ;)

Heaven doesn't reflect the current time on earth, it reflected how Keene sees the Earth, which happened to be the current time for us. Breel needs to learn about all the new technology that has been invented as well as relearning how to be alive.

I was assuming since he was the angel most recently deceased, Rufus would just be more willing to come back to life. Either he misses his human family, the other farm animals, or mortality itself.

I'm reminded of how the Auditors reacted to incarnation in Pratchett's Thief of Time.

And she felt hungry. And that also made no sense. The stomach was a bag for digesting food. It wasn't supposed to issue commands. The Auditors could survive quite well by exchanging molecules with their surroundings and making use of any local source of energy. That was a fact.

Try telling that to the stomach. She could feel it. It was sitting there, grumbling. She was being harassed by her internal organs. Why the... why the.. why had they copied internal organs? Yuerkkk.

It was all too much. She wanted to... she wanted to... express herself by shouting some, some, some terrible words...

'Discord! Confusion!'

The other Auditors looked around in terror.

But the words didn't work for Miss Tangerine. They just didn't have the same force that they used to. There had to be something worse. Ah, yes...
'Organs!' she shouted, pleased to have found it at last. 'And what are all you... organs looking at?' she added. 'Get on with it!'

Well, if you think about it, he already had a body. If he was pure spirit he and Keene couldn't have interacted on a physical level, such as the kiss that dissolved the hell chains. All that was needed was to change the immortal body mortal. Removing the halo was symbolic of removing the divinity.

Basically, Breel just downgraded.

My concern with this comic is that Breel is refered to as a "him" by Keene. Typo or am I missing something after all this time? Could have sworn Breel was female based on the design alone.

To be fair, Breel's gender was never mentioned except for the 3 comics where Keene was searching for him in Pandemonium. It was ambiguous for nearly two years before then:

... So, Keene, how's this railroad plutocrats dandy gonna break your heart? Cerberus wasn't balking because she's just an instinctive kill-joy. Wondering ... Is Kitsune off-panel again?

If Breel decides to go back to Heaven, could he be an organ donor?
