In all honesty, I have to say I'm glad that Rick did a Thanksgiving one. All that time spent on Halloween, and then no Thanksgiving comic? I would have been distraught.

This comic felt like a "Housepets meets xkcd" crossover. It has a surprisingly charming effect. I wonder if peanut reads webcomics...
Oh, and Happy late Thanksgiving!

Okay.

I knew there was Pete.

I knew that Joel was going to come back.

I did not predict a situation like this.

This was likely because Pete wasn't necessarily real at the time.

Didn't Pete have more feathery ears when we last saw him?

Pete is very blue.

Joel is pretty calm, considering the situation.

I'm typing in fragmented thoughts.

It's a wonderful dog's life. It's the start of the Christmas arc. Here comes the insanity.

"I don't suppose this is what they mean when someone says they flown the coo~"
"No."

and i'm left wondering if Pete can just wisp himself into places like that. Because Tarot forgot to mention he's a total hax :D

EDIT: I also recall that Pete's ears wern't like that either, but to Rick's defense, he might've never drawn them forward to show the inner ears when they aren't, they can easily be mistaken for the rest of his feathers.

Okay, this is all now too confusing. I can't wait for this arc to resolve! I can't take the amount of questions anymore.

But the most obvious one: How did Pete get inside? I mean, if there's really a hole in the wall big enough for him to get in, then Joel could have escaped with ease, right? Also, the man in the first panel could have seen him.... but he didn't react! The only explanation is that Pete appeared out of nowhere, you know, teleport. But are griffins able to do that? And then why Joel? And how does Pete know Joel? And... this is a weird dream someone's dreaming.

Maybe it has to do with Tarot's prophecy. Joel doesn't look like he uses to hold much love in his heart. Perhaps his soul will be crushed into many, many tiny fragments...

Note that this -is- a new arc? Oops I Arced is over. Pete's still around.

On to the Eblycomment:
I'm kind of getting annoyed at what seems to be plot convenience... I'm still waiting patiently for the other shoe to drop. I guess it kind of just doesn't sit well in my expectations, but it's not like I can't change my expectations, and it's not like my expectations of a webcomic matter in the scheme of things anyway.

...Unfortunately, part of what made this comic really attractive to me personally was the reality of it (despite animals walking and talking - but it seemed that most of the jokes wouldn't have worked without that being so anyway) and the really quality writing on Rick's part. I have no problem with a change in genre (Rick could have taken Brittles' and Tails' ideas and made Housepets totally sci-fi and I would still enjoy it), but I have to admit, it does seem an awful lot that Pete is plot convenience, which is a bit disappointing. Additionally, the reality is starting to evaporate (even in sci-fi and fantasy there generally is an aspect of reality, an explanation, as opposed to flat out saying 'this is how it is becuase I say so and it's convenient so accept it').

This can't possibly just be me being picky; either -some- form of footwear is going to convert gravitational potential energy into kinetic energy one of these days, or something really significant has happened and it's going to really change the comic and people's opinions and appreciation of it.

Is it entirely possible for me to... not like this? U:

Okay, so, I acknowledge that Rick can't spend all his time on Housepets making it some kind of perfectly written supercomic (a dur) and that he has absolutely no reason to do anything with his comic unless he so decides (a dur x 2) and that I'm only one person (a dur x 3) and I think the only person that's said anything like this in an open forum (basically I'm saying that this is just my opinion and it doesn't really matter at all), but I'm really, really, looking forward to an explanation or something similar one of these days. I dunno, but I -do- know I'm not the only one getting a little irked over Pete and such.

I too passed through that phase with this webcomic, Ebly. In the end, I accepted to just relax and anjoy it as it is. Rick is just unpredictable, and that's his magic. And so far, DESPITE THE PEANUTXGRAPE FAILURE he hasn't let anyone down.

I was worried people would see my comments like that.

I attempted to not sound arrogant or abraisive in my comment, and trust me when I say I'm not worked up in any kind of flurry over this. It's just a comment with the hopes of being at least mildly constructive in showing what at least one person's opinion is. I don't mean to give off some kind of upset air. Yes, I went fancy, because frankly my typing is usually a little less than grammatically correct and definitely a lot less than serious. I'm not saying I hate the comic forever and I'm not saying that this is a horrible mistake that totally should never have happened and oh I have no respect for Rick now. That's well on the ridiculous side there. U:

Besides that, your comment seems pretty patronizing to me right there, and I enjoyed your little insult by basically saying I'm an idiot that thinks the comic should be based around my opinion. Thanks for that, broskee~

NOW TO SINDER WHO IS COMPLETELY RIGHT 8DDDDDDDDD

Edit: okay i'll admit i was a little annoyed and uncalm THIS time but hey, that was more because i really don't appreciate being called out for being something i made every attempt not to be

Hmmmph, I think that's a borderline insult. This is a forum, and we're allowed to discuss our ideas and thoughts. If you have a counterargument, then give it, although it's usually fruitless to argue an opinion...

That aside, switching the focus to my opinion, Pete does annoy me a little. He can be used for random plot convenience because of his magic. So far, Rick has used Tarot responsibly and charmingly, hence why none of us have complained about her. *shurgs* I'm sure Rick's writing standard is high enough to avoid that kind of thing with Pete, but the worry still remains, and it's no crime to express that worry.

This is all certainly different and interesting, and quite a setup. No doubt the arc will be enjoyable, but...Pete. Let's see what Pete does.

Although, I must admit there are far worse ways to introduce a transformation. Simple magic by someone semi-omnipotent was probably for the best.

Ebly, I must say that I actually agree with you. I mean, I'll like Housepets even if it changes its genre, but I doubt I'll like it as before. Mythical creatures, magic and unexplainable events definitely aren't better than the reality of the comic (Except pets who walk and talk) and the shenanigans the pets get into in their life with their owners.

I must be honest, I don't like the fact that Pete is real. Not at all. But hey, that's just me.

Ebly wrote:even in sci-fi and fantasy there generally is an aspect of reality
Nah, sci-fi story can take place in some different universe (or place), which has no concept of reality, because of totally different laws of physics. Well I could not have even concept of "laws of physics", or concept of "universe" or "story". Also even concept of the "concept" couldn't exist there (as well as concept of "existence"). Just something totally different, very unlike to our reality, where every one of the previous and following words I said doesn't just make any sense in there. Ok I'll rather be quiet, before I loose concept of pressing the Submit button.

Also, Joel's face in panel 3 is very cute :) as well as this unpredictable story line (stupid quantum physics, if this universe was deterministic like the classic physics says, we could calculate with proper variables all the next comics :D ). When I first saw this strip while standing on the bus station, I actually thought that Joel is animal, which was turned into human for some reason and now Pete is turning him back, but that was just few milliseconds ago before I read the text bubbles. :)
