She certainly has i’d say a more “curvy” build in this strip, but max kinda does too. Probably apart of the new art design for Housepets! (for the cats at least)
She definitely does have more curves, though Max has a somewhat straight, hourglass figure. But his scarf looks like a cape so he looks like a slightly, toned superhero.
Maybe they’re different raccoons… after all, the face markings of the one who guided the Opener of Ways do not match either of these two, nor do the markings of the broom-to-the-face raccoons. And regarding the former, these two don’t strike me as religious zealots…
Whaddya mean new? They’re the same racoons from the near beginning of Housepets! in arc #4. In case you don’t remember Grape does not take kindly to uninvited guests!
Maybe it’s because I’m a Christian, but to me, the idea of playing a hymn on one’s belly seems kind of crude. I do have to admit, though, that I would like to hear some Gilbert and Sullivan.
Hearing something like “When I Was a Lad” played on his belly would be interesting, and playing it would be no small feat on his part.
P.S. In retrospect, using the word “maybe” wasn’t the best choice. If I could edit the first sentence in my response, it would read like this: “Because I Christian, the idea of playing a hymn on one’s belly seems kind of disrespectful.”
As a musical entrepreneur, I find the idea of playing most any song via stomach grumbling to be rather low brow… but it sure would be interesting to witness.
Also, I don’t think any of us think of you as judgmental. Your opinions and values are your own. I would only advise that you relax just a little, and don’t expect quite so much reprisal for your faith– at least from us Housepets! readers. (Unless of course, you were honestly not satisfied with your wording- as I often am with my own writing. In which case, kindly disregard. ^_^)
Of course, I can’t speak for everyone, but I believe our primary reason for being here is to enjoy Rick’s fine work and critique it as we see fit. The last thing we should be doing is pull apart the comments of others because they contain elements we ourselves find disagreeable, and the moderators are fully aware of this. You should feel comfortable expressing your position on matters and moving on, and whoever slights you for it is misunderstanding the purpose of the commentary feature. (Unless of course you were honestly dissatisfied with your wording etc. etc. ^_^)
P.S. I guess I’m lucky Australia chose another song as its anthem, because I’d personally love to hear Truck play Waltzing Matilda!
The more accurate way I should have phrased that: As a matter of fact, I would venture to say that from midnight to midnight on any given date, I pray at least once for forgiveness.
I would definitely recommend an edit button for the commentary feature. Also‚ is there any particular why we’restillableto use the reply button? I thought this one would have closed by now.
I am not sure when these comments are supposed to lock; I believe it is somewhere around the one-week mark.
As for edits, I agree. That ability would be nice. I guess until we’re given that ability, I suppose in your case you aught to write what’s in your heart and then take a moment to make absolutely sure you said it. These comments are practically a permanent record, after all.
I really like the new look of max, his body is thinner and also looks smaller, his bell is smaller, and the bite in his ear is also smaller. All great changes to his look.
It’s cute to see that Max is hosting a party at his place. These days i figured Jeff to be the house tyrant type of owner, but this changes things. I wonder how often he agrees to stuff like this?
So what your really saying is that Grape is gonna wipe the floor with those wiley racoons. Shout out to RvB though they have done some really great work with that show!
Definitely seeing a bit more “V-shape” with Max and bit more “hourglass-shape” with Grape. Which is weird for me since I was JUST commenting that she looked more boyish a few strips back. Of course, it might just be because they’re walking and she’s turning to face Max.
Certain comics she is drawn like that and sometimes it’s not. It mostly comes off as her attitude at the time from the way i read it. Normally when i see her coming off as scoffing at an idea or when she’s asking questions in a innocent manner, i see that trait.
I noticed the same thing to be perfectly honest, and though i am enjoying the slight style changes, I would hate to see Grape fall prey to a cliche girl like figure, we all deep down inside she wants to punch someone :3
Tough first, act girly later with a side of good detailed exposition. That’s what i think makes Grape so pleasing to the viewers with the exposition being very fun to listen to.=)
I definitely can see the “hourglass” in Grape, and her ears look a little kangaroo-ish. I dunno… I guess I’m just used to seeing cats tilt their head when confused and not really moving the base of their ears to the side of their head. Still looks good, tho’.
oh another good one and we now have their names!? oh and such good ones,i’m not too familiar with the references or anything about the names that was said but i can agree that they are good names indeed. and “strangling a moose.” is a funny line.lol
Sorry, neither. Grape… definitely Grape. I just want to rub between her ears and feel the purr. By the way, has anyone else noticed how we’ve never actually seen any cat purring in this comic? We’ve seen Peanut all excited and happy (a tummy rub from Grape, wasn’t it?) But we’ve never seen a cat purr.
Max didn’t get the crawfish from Lake Poncho Train did he? if so… DON’T LEAVE THE CAR MAX!… oh wait he’s walking… DON’T LEAVE THE GRAPE MAX! DON’T LEAVE THE GRAPE!!!
I agree about crawfish. still with max and grape who knows what will happen max can do just about anything. and grape just has to support him to doing it.
Sorry but for the sake of pointing it out, though this appears to be physically possible and it is no doubt, the implications of inducing sounds in consecutive order to mimic that of a melody that by name appears to be folk in nature are sure to result in tissue agitation of the small intestine from the now physically aided process of the walls of the small intestine adjoining; though it appears in this example the “song” in question is actually large Southern Georgia river spelled incorrectly for the sake of sounding like that of the character or another as “Swanee River” is in quotes.
Of course, if you read everything I just said in high hopes I am right, I would hate to clarify the fact that what I just described does not in fact agitate your body because it happens consistently all day, every day. The reality here is Truck has to fart… :3
I thought of the Drew Carey Show for some reason when I read that last panel. Probably because there was this guy in one episode who played the same song on the phone but I can’t really remember what the episode was about.
And from experience, it’s never fun to be that hungry.
Anyway, I tried crawfish once about 2 years ago. In my opinion, they aren’t that good. But I’ll give the “benefit-of-the- doubt,” and say that perhaps it wasn’t a great restaurant.
According to Euell Gibbons you if you pull the middle structure on the tail out pulling the lower intestine along with it before cooking, it no longer tastes like river mud.
Ooh, very interesting turn you’ve taken the style here. Seems Max has slimmed down and it seems to me Grape is starting to look more ladylike now than ever.
-Overthought warning.-
On a thought, we all remember Peanut’s gender confusion early on in the story, but I don’t think this would void that as much as some might think. (and no, NOT because Peanut has not always been firing on all pistons ) In fact, it seems the idea of coming out of one’s shell has long been Grape’s guiding principle as a character. Now that she’s branched out and formed relationships with animals other than Peanut, she could very well be in the midst of a more profound transformation than what is implied, and I think that is very cool. ^_^
It is said in some circles that we ‘become ourselves through others.’ …If I’m at all accurate in my theories, Grape is a prime example of the pursuit of optimum social health. Also a thing I find very cool. ^_^
‘Course I am by no means certified to make any of these statements, so I could very well be spouting fanboy gibberish. I thank you for humoring me, though! Great strip with great characters. Much obliged.
Yush more Grape and Max! ^^
I like to see some arcs about cats, but nothing beats more Max and Grape
Are you saying Max and Grape aren’t cats?
Of course they are! I just think when the focus is on Max and Grape, it’s usually on the characters, not the community.
But I’m beginning to think I spoke too soon. If there’s a party, lots of cats will be there. Two birds with one stone!
Mind you, 75% of the cat community is Mr. Bigglesworths…
Is it me or Grape looks more femenine ?
She certainly has i’d say a more “curvy” build in this strip, but max kinda does too. Probably apart of the new art design for Housepets! (for the cats at least)
Even her tail is curvier than usual.
Even peanut looked slightly curvier.
Everyone is falling prey to the craze of dieting! Curves everywhere! :O
She definitely does have more curves, though Max has a somewhat straight, hourglass figure. But his scarf looks like a cape so he looks like a slightly, toned superhero.
Even more so that usual.
Even more so than usual.
New comic just in time!
Isn’t this the first time we’ve seen the racoons names? Also Truck is adorable.
Yes, I did just name them for this arc
yay we finaly have a name for them
only one. The other should be named garbage.
The name Falstaff shows up in the the tags, so I assume that’s the other raccoon.
Ah thought so.
That’s awesome Rick!
How did you come up with their names? And, in-universe, how did they come up with their names?
Truck is one of the main raccoon characters in Architect of Sleep. I just about jawdropped when Rick made a reference to that book.
Good catch, does that mean Falstaff is a Stripe?
Wait, wait, that Truck is a girl.
I don’t think Truck has been referred to as a He. So Truck could very well be a girl.
Or a truck. In disguise. TRANSFORMERS YEAH!
Okay that kind of got away from me there.
you mean there names weren’t The and Raccoons respectively?
there both great anyway
The is one of Spo’s younger siblings.
AH! I see what you did there, I see what you diiiid. :3
Finally!!!
Nice! New arc can’t wait.
The question still stands though… was it Falstaff or Truck who guided the Opener of Ways? (also which one got the broom to the face?
)
The ratio of his height to his width in that appearance was high relative to the raccoons as they appear here… I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Truck.
Yes but it was one of the broom-to-the-face raccoons and back then they were both drawn pretty much the same. So it could be either one!
Maybe they’re different raccoons… after all, the face markings of the one who guided the Opener of Ways do not match either of these two, nor do the markings of the broom-to-the-face raccoons. And regarding the former, these two don’t strike me as religious zealots…
Falstaff and Truck! Those are very cool names. +10 Awesome points to the new raccoons! X3
Whaddya mean new? They’re the same racoons from the near beginning of Housepets! in arc #4. In case you don’t remember Grape does not take kindly to uninvited guests!
By ‘new’ I meant new style and the fact that they’re named now. :3
Of course I know they’re the same ones who fear a “Broom to your face!”
they have names now? *reads through comments* oh, wait, this was already answered XD
I like Truck. He reminds me of me.
interesting…..but can he play amazing grace….
Maybe it’s because I’m a Christian, but to me, the idea of playing a hymn on one’s belly seems kind of crude. I do have to admit, though, that I would like to hear some Gilbert and Sullivan.

By the way, if I came across as judgemental, I didn’t mean to. I do, however, stand by what I said, which is meant for future reference.
P.S. I just want to edit my previous post: As a Christian, I find that the idea of playing a hymn on one’s belly seems kind of disrespectful.
And yes, I realize I should have typed “I’m a Christian” in my last post.
Also, I admit that I, too, happen to be prone to sin, and often ask for forgiveness from them in my prayers.
I think we understand now. Thank you.
As a musical entrepreneur, I find the idea of playing most any song via stomach grumbling to be rather low brow… but it sure would be interesting to witness.

As a matter of fact, I would venture to say that from midnight to midnight on any given date, I ask at least once for forgiveness in my prayers.
If this weren’t the internet, we would have most certainly collided headlong into each other! Heheh, pardon me
The more accurate way I should have phrased that: As a matter of fact, I would venture to say that from midnight to midnight on any given date, I pray at least once for forgiveness.
I would definitely recommend an edit button for the commentary feature. Also‚ is there any particular why we’restillableto use the reply button? I thought this one would have closed by now.

That is very true.
Is the one-week thing new?
Falstaff and Truck! Awesome looking forward in seeing these two!
I just love Truck! :3
They look pretty good, especially in the second panel
Rick outdid himself again
agreed.
that’s his standard
always.
How would people feel if he never got better?
This would be a boring comic then.
Falstaff is just amazing. :p
They remind me of two old looney tunes characters based on Abbott and Costello.
OMG YESSSSSS!!!
We definitely need an Abbot and Costello arc.
They remind me of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
Specifically, from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead, with Tim Roth.
I like that movie.
Heads.
The guy’s hungry. What else is he gonna think about?
I really like the new look of max, his body is thinner and also looks smaller, his bell is smaller, and the bite in his ear is also smaller. All great changes to his look.
Ya (chuckle) still on catnip though, isn’t he?
Truck is so cute! ^^ I think I would have named him Baby Bear, Navi, Skipper!
Truck is still a good name
oh!oh! play born on the bayou!!!
also, does Maxwell have a kinked tail? if so i find it completely adorable…
I think its that way because Rick would have it go off the panel if he drew it straight. But if i’m wrong it does fit his character.
No scrollover?
Also, I sense an uproar from PetFriendly and all the other fan-writings…
“it was probably all that catnip you just ate”
I like Falstaff, he looks like a smart guy that his plans never work
Literally the “Wise Guy” of the two if you catch my meaning
Uh-oh. Pinky and the Brain?
Pret-ty much!
It’s cute to see that Max is hosting a party at his place. These days i figured Jeff to be the house tyrant type of owner, but this changes things. I wonder how often he agrees to stuff like this?
I’ve gotta say I like where this is going, though I think those racoons are borderline insane if they plan on raiding a Crawfish fry with Grape there!
Cats vs Raccoons! Its gonna be epic! But with Grape around its gonna be a tough one
Nah. Grape only needs to look at them and the raccoons will run for their lives.
If they don’t, it might end up like that RvB revelations episode where Tex demolishes the Red team and Tucker in an epic fight.
So what your really saying is that Grape is gonna wipe the floor with those wiley racoons. Shout out to RvB though they have done some really great work with that show!
I think they plan on raiding the trash after the crawfish fry.
Knowing this comic, the raccoons will probably try pulling something before the crawfish are cooked… surgery to follow.
I hope the TF2 Medic does not visit when that happens, they might end up losing there skeletons IF they’re lucky.
It feels like your style changed a bit again o.o I like it!
They all look extra-cute, I blame the winter coats :3
Well, he did say he was still finalising the look when the shift first happened
“You didn’t see anything.” http://www.housepetscomic.com/2012/12/21/at-least-im-gonna-say-that-i-tried/
We last saw the ‘coons in that strip.
You-know… … I wonder if they got away with that, I mean it seems like it. -_-…
I want to know now!! lol.
Falstaff is either a Jedi or he knows Madagascar’s Skipper.
Definitely seeing a bit more “V-shape” with Max and bit more “hourglass-shape” with Grape. Which is weird for me since I was JUST commenting that she looked more boyish a few strips back. Of course, it might just be because they’re walking and she’s turning to face Max.

Most huggable character: Truck or Itsuki?
i’d say truck. he’s also cute.
Truck, because nothing’s cuter than a little brother
Truck and Falstaff are brothers?
Well, not that we know, but Truck does act very little sibling-ish, don’t you think?
I was getting more of an “odd couple” vibe.
I’m a sucker for chubby raccoons, so i say Truck.
I’d have to say Truck. Overall he’s much more “raccoon-esque” than Falstaff, but they’re both ridiculously cute critters.
Itsuki looks fluffier, so I say him.
This may sound like a strange comment ,but I like the way Rick draws mouths
O_O… … … I uh … don’t know how to react to that.@_@… (head explodes)
By telling him he’s really observant of the art?
Trying to steal food when Grape is around is like stealing food from the TF2 Heavy or attempting to assault RvB’s Tex by any means.
Don’t you mean stealing a sandwiches from TF2 Heavy? Cause that’s basically the only thing he eats.
He also eats steak, chocolate and sandviches made of metal
HE EATS METAL???!!!!!!!!
Yep! The robo-sandvich is a promotional item in tf2. Sadly, it can’t be obtained anymore.
I don’t know what you’re talking about but I’m EXTREMELY interested.
I wonder if grape will do the broom to the face technique like she did in The Raccoons Arc
I wonder if he could do “Smoke on the water”
No! The song lazy that’s a better song from Deep Purple.
Also… I guess naming a tall and skinny character “Falstaff” is comic irony.
What concentration, what skill, what a hungry airhead Truck can be.
The raccoon that called Zach the opener of ways had yellow eyes.
yay the Raccoons have names, finally.
and another thing… is Maxwell wearing a Cape….
I think that’s a scarf.
It is a scarf.
okay then It looked like a Cape…. it might just be the way he’s wearing it
Ya know that would be hilarious if he was, dut du du, super Max!!
WOW what a spin-off that would be!
And he’d face-off his arch-nemesis: Spot (superdog)!
Super Grov** Max has to have an Annoying Ray as his power. It doesn’t hurt, but it drains the hero’s patience level quickly.
Mmmm, crawfish. Fun to catch, delicious yet a pain in the tail to eat.
Max didn’t get the crawfish from Lake Poncho Train did he? if so… DON’T LEAVE THE CAR MAX!… oh wait he’s walking… DON’T LEAVE THE GRAPE MAX! DON’T LEAVE THE GRAPE!!!
Lake Ponchartrain?
I agree about crawfish. still with max and grape who knows what will happen max can do just about anything. and grape just has to support him to doing it.
Haha, that’s too funny. Hilarious.
I thought we all already know that.
I can’t believe catnip isn’t illegal.
According to this comic: http://www.housepetscomic.com/2012/06/11/oldie-but-goodies/
… it might be illegal to sell it directly to cats. Or it may merely be a in-store regulation.
I personally wouldn’t be surprised if it was a law. Cats can be so persuasive…
Hey, they’re finally named! This could easily be a really fun arc, though I really must wonder what will happen with an arc named “Trash Pickup”.
wow, with today’s comic it’s even more clear WHY Peanut has a crush on Grape
THOSE TWO ARE AMAZING
Sorry but for the sake of pointing it out, though this appears to be physically possible and it is no doubt, the implications of inducing sounds in consecutive order to mimic that of a melody that by name appears to be folk in nature are sure to result in tissue agitation of the small intestine from the now physically aided process of the walls of the small intestine adjoining; though it appears in this example the “song” in question is actually large Southern Georgia river spelled incorrectly for the sake of sounding like that of the character or another as “Swanee River” is in quotes.

Taking into account what they might have eaten, I do not what to be there for that poot.
Cartoon Physics.
Yay Raccoons! Highfive!
I thought of the Drew Carey Show for some reason when I read that last panel. Probably because there was this guy in one episode who played the same song on the phone but I can’t really remember what the episode was about.

Aw man, that was a totally awesome rainbow! Ruined!
i thought it was pretty cool.lol
If you want something invisible holding it in place, you need to use
For visible, options are endlesss, but periods are customary.
Wild: Ya know i’ve got a feeling we gonna see a “mission impossible” arc, Either that or an “Oceans”.
Wisp: ohh i wounder if their will be a team of wood land criters you work together to steal the food like in a spy movie.
Wild:-_-
That, my friends, is a hedge! It is not to be feared!
those arcs would be fun to see in a PG way, especially since this is housepets.lol
Good luck with your surgery, Rick.
Wat? ._.
He was talking about some kind of procedure in his twitter, but it seems to have turned out better than expected.
Yeah, that was back in November. But don’t worry, He’s a healthy ferret again
He went back to the hospital a couple of days ago.
I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Hehehe, racoons XD Their thief lifestyle is so racoony
Truck, what did you do all afternoon?
“Hung out”
How could Truck be hungry? He’s full of gas! hahah– *gets shot*
Haha, that little one is adorable as all heck.
Ooh, very interesting turn you’ve taken the style here. Seems Max has slimmed down and it seems to me Grape is starting to look more ladylike now than ever.
