Whoa now! Speak for youself –if you be male, friend– That’s an awfully stereotipical statement, which I resent. Some of us men actually think before we speak and try to be gentleman, thank you very much.
Why is it people always beat me to the best jokes?!
Still, I can’t believe this is the first iteration of the Cone of Shame in all of HousePets! I mean, not even Bino in all his injuries ever got the cone…
…Oh, hey, I just got it. Now that King has the Cone of Shame on, he can’t chew the wound anymore. X3
For me, it updates at three in the morning, so I’m either asleep, or really embarassed of having nothing better to do than check this webcomic first thing in the morning for updates.
Did you hear that? That was the sound of my brain leaving my skull with a sudden burst of energy originating from you, in other words you just blew my mind
I don’t know about that… JoeKing might have gotten away unscathed if he had sad something like:
“I’m just saying that what happened to you doesn’t seem to be fair to you. I enjoy being around you, but I don’t like how this situation seems to be at your expense.”
It seems like something JoeKing would say if he could find the words.
Joel, not Joe.
But it’s true, had he found the right words he might have actually convinced her.
Then again, being grandilocuent when someone’s yelling at you is hard.
Remember that comic in which it was said “In this comic, somebody buys the farm”?
Well, uh…
….
….
Bino bought and is now living happily and confortably with all his friends (A.K.A. alone)! X)
It involved not being taken aback by the beauty of particulary gorgeus, albeit imaginary, bar mistress (I think it was a bar mistress).
Though I’m sure if Bino played D&D, many of the players would like to loose early.
Feel old? Feel old?! Don’t ever say that again!
If loving the Monkey Island franchise is being old, then I was walking the Earth when the king of hearts was still a prince.
I was nervous at first, but the new art style is really starting to work. The use of overhead perspective and the repetition of narrow panels in 3-5 is great for communicating the fight on a visual level. Much improved over the newspaper-comic style of perpetual side-panel squares.
Methinks Bailey got that cone out of a back shed somewhere, or quickly fashioned it out of cardboard. I doubt she had him fixed (although she is angry enough right now that she might of).
Also I think Bailey point with the cone is this;
Yes, dogs like to chew at their wounds, that’s why there are preventative devices/actions to keep the dogs from doing themselves permanent physical/emotional damage.
I don’t know why, but I almost feel like the comedy detracts from the underlying storyline here. I mean, in real life, this is so similar to a lot of relationship ending arguments that happen. To me I’m thinking ‘what is King going to do or say to try and resolve this?’. But no, he tries to make a joke and then somehow gets a cone on his head.
But again this is just my opinion. All in all I love reading this comic and I’m still looking forward to see where this arc goes.
The point is that King doesn’t know how to react here, so he makes the classic mistake of trying to defuse the situation with humor. Bailey feels like he’s not taking her seriously, and so this is how she reacts.
Or, yaknow, it works but it isn’t a miracle cure.
Stuffing a cone on his head seems like a good ‘I see you’ve realized you goofed, but I’m not quite willing to forgive’
After all, it’s not JUST a joke, it’s also essentially a way to say he’s not got a reason.
I wonder that myself, but if he didn’t do a reveal when he was drunk off of orange soda back at the “Dog Days of Summer” arc, I don’t think it will be him who does the big reveal. He’s obviously afraid of losing Fox’s friendship.
Bailey’s physical dominance over King has seemed understated until now–finally seeing it in full force here is great. Bino’s sucker punch (while both vicious and funny) has nothing on the hulking-over angle of this strip.
I don’t think their relationship is completely out just yet. I mean she’s on the point that she didn’t care who she hit last strip (which probably broke Bino’s nose) and her punishment against King is the cone of shame.
Even when things are going bad, Rick still makes me laugh with both “FACE” then the alt text in this one. It took a moment to get the joke but when I did I laughed out loud. X3
Now that I saw Bailey say that, I decided to takee her side… Even tho King just wanted her to see how humans “use” pets and wanted her attitude to think about it and live her life, but all result from it was “chewing her wounds”.
As someone already mentioned, his trauma as Joel reflected on Bailey, and somehow I feel like he does something as a former PETA member.
It’s sad, so sad
It’s a sad, sad situation
And it’s getting more and more absurd
It’s sad, so sad
Why can’t we talk it over
Oh it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word
Well… it could have been worse. Considering what just happened to Bino… yeah. I blame the fact that King probably has minimal experience with showing sympathy.
If I were King, I probably would have shut up a long time ago, and if not, then I would at least have said something like “You know what, if you are going to be so mad at me, it won’t do me any good to say it, and I should probably leave you alone for now, so I’ll see you when you calm down and decide to actually think about things instead of simply argue about them.” Hopefully that would prevent me from getting clobbered by she-who-literally-goes-red-eyed-with-anger, and it would also hopefully make her feel guilty and want to apologize for being so rude towards my own opinions, at which point I would apologize for being so rude towards her own opinions and we would, as some say, “kiss and make up”.
Bailey makes a very good point here. I don’t think King realized that just constantly reminding her of how much getting left behind kinda sucks…. sucks. That said, I agree with what he said last strip. Time for middle ground.
Bailey should realize that he keeps talking about it, because he cares about her, and he’s angry that this happened to her. She should have more patience with him.
King needs to realize that his constantly bringing it up is aggravating an already sensitive situation. He needs to think more about Bailey’s feelings here.
I think this is all set up by Pete. Pete causes baileys family to move away. King see’s how sad bailey is and strikes a deal with Pete that if he brings baileys family back to make her happy again, He will become Petes pawn in his little game. Only catch with the deal being that he must no longer date bailey.
I really hope I am wrong on this entire scenario, I really want king to find happiness. He will not find it going back to being a human.
Hey Rick, ive been following your comic for a long time now and i gotta say, while i love the new character designs, the change in background is not one i like..
the background is too heavily inked and therefore draws too much attention to itself, the foreground where the characters exist looses its ability to stand out.
keep at it though, i absolutely love this comic and i cant wait to buy the hard copies! along with a bookshelf to keep em on too of course.. =3
It was better off seeing Bailey tackling King in a cute playful manner all happy….
Aaaaand the red eyes still there … nice … not (although she looks good in red … just saying)
Keep in wind where ‘just saying’ just got king.
Just saying?
You would think he would have learned by now — stay clear when her eyes turn red like that…
umm…did she hurt his face like bino?
No, she put a cone around his neck to keep him from chewing at wounds.
Oh King, you always know the wrong thing to say.
All males, humans included, know just the wrong thing to say.
Whoa now! Speak for youself –if you be male, friend– That’s an awfully stereotipical statement, which I resent. Some of us men actually think before we speak and try to be gentleman, thank you very much.
That is pretty stereotypical of me…
It does apply to me occasionally though
But in order to say the right thing you have to know what the wrong thing to say is, so that you can make sure not to say it.
Also, by saying that you think before you speak, you imply that the RIGHT thing to say is not the FIRST thing that pops into your mind.
look thats not the point but king laidy iz mad
i’m guilty of it from time to time…… just sayin
I couldn’t agree more
King: Wrong answer, well now he can hear foreign Radiostations
The cone of shame…
I do not like the cone of shame
Then take it off! He’s got hands, after all.
Dug will be sad seeing King!
Squirrel!
…Hi there!
Bonus points! Haha Dug is so cute. X3
Hi there. My name is Doug.
Yea tell me about it. You gotta get up pretty early in the comic-update to get first crack at making the most obvious jokes.
For me, it updates at three in the morning, so I’m either asleep, or really embarassed of having nothing better to do than check this webcomic first thing in the morning for updates.
Funny, I thought it could’ve been a lampshade…
Snark and ye shall receive…
Where did that even come from?
Magic, everyone! Magic!
Hammerspace!
…Now where IS that wand? Oh, I forgot; I put it away.
Cinderella was around long before anime took over the idea.
Western cartoons call it “back pockets”. Even when they don’t wear pants.
Is Hammertime found in Hammerspace?
Did you hear that? That was the sound of my brain leaving my skull with a sudden burst of energy originating from you, in other words you just blew my mind
we shall call it hammerspacetime
Yeah … King … you shouldnt had say that
I know right? Very poor choice of words King!
At this point, *everything* beside apologizing is the wrong choice of words, man
I don’t know about that… JoeKing might have gotten away unscathed if he had sad something like:
“I’m just saying that what happened to you doesn’t seem to be fair to you. I enjoy being around you, but I don’t like how this situation seems to be at your expense.”
It seems like something JoeKing would say if he could find the words.
Joel, not Joe.
But it’s true, had he found the right words he might have actually convinced her.
Then again, being grandilocuent when someone’s yelling at you is hard.
Is Bino okay?
well … he is just knocked out unconscious in the snow … he´ll be fine
Remember that comic in which it was said “In this comic, somebody buys the farm”?
Well, uh…
….
….
Bino bought and is now living happily and confortably with all his friends (A.K.A. alone)! X)
bino has friends thay just are not willingly
I was going to say… wasn’t it Bino and his friends that Rick showed playing D&D, and multiple wanted to forfeit the “save roll”?
No, it was Joey and his creepy friends.
It involved not being taken aback by the beauty of particulary gorgeus, albeit imaginary, bar mistress (I think it was a bar mistress).
Though I’m sure if Bino played D&D, many of the players would like to loose early.
King really messed up here for sure. There isn’t really a good way out of this one.
Yup.
Gonna be a sad Christmas for someone…
First Max, now King. They really need to practice their dramatic pauses and come up with better lines =P
Wound chewing, there’s an
appcone for that.Maybe it’ll absorb a Bailey Punch. Just not very well.
King just doesn’t know how to handle these situations.
What, did she have him fixed between panels?
that’s BAILEY for ya!
For all we know, a week could have passed between panels 3 and 4.
King I’m going to give you the same advice I frequently must give to one of my best friends: don’t talk.
oh, poor King. at least if the relationship end we can likely laugh at King’s exploits of stumbling over himself trying to get her back.
if not, we still got to see Bailey go hulk and cream Bino.
Was Bailey just keeping that cone in her inventory or something?
It was folded up in her jacket :O
If videogames such as Resident Evil or Silent Hill have taught something, is that anything can fit in the pocket
Actually I think the Monkey Island games where the first to do that :p
god I feel old.
Also : Poor King
Feel old?
Hope the extra effort is sustainable!

Nicely done, sir.
Oh, holy… didn’t even notice.
I feel that I deserve some sort of prize.
I’m pretty sure it will be alright in the end.
In my personal opinion, I see things completely the opposite way … (referring to the end of the story arc) … lets hope im wrong
knock on wood! Knock! On! Wood!!!
I wish they’d fix the lines/cause my baby don’t know/that I’m leavin’ in the morning/and I/m ready to go
What the title said
Some dogs like chewing heads off too |3
King looks absolutey adorable when he’s staring at his feet to avoid the question.
Also, stupid response. he deserves the cone of shame.
how did she get that on him???
Leverage.
Leverage? As in… hitting him with a lever?
I believe the correct response should have been “The Aristocrats”
Ya done goofed.
Bailey is kind of frightening when she’s angry =<
Methinks Bailey got that cone out of a back shed somewhere, or quickly fashioned it out of cardboard. I doubt she had him fixed (although she is angry enough right now that she might of).
Also I think Bailey point with the cone is this;
Yes, dogs like to chew at their wounds, that’s why there are preventative devices/actions to keep the dogs from doing themselves permanent physical/emotional damage.
King is still going at it, even though bailey spared his life in last comic strip.
Well, this is a comedic webcomic; drama may happen here and there, but mostly in a humorous manner.
How long before he either accidently or on purpose spills the beans?
I wonder that myself, but if he didn’t do a reveal when he was drunk off of orange soda back at the “Dog Days of Summer” arc, I don’t think it will be him who does the big reveal. He’s obviously afraid of losing Fox’s friendship.
The foot still fits though.
So far he’s got a nice deal out of this mess: he’s still alive…
Bailey’s physical dominance over King has seemed understated until now–finally seeing it in full force here is great. Bino’s sucker punch (while both vicious and funny) has nothing on the hulking-over angle of this strip.
CWN’D!
rip king’s and Bailey’s relationship
I don’t think their relationship is completely out just yet. I mean she’s on the point that she didn’t care who she hit last strip (which probably broke Bino’s nose) and her punishment against King is the cone of shame.
It won’t fix everything, but it’s a start I bet.
King is still PETA. Oh King! All you do is to criticize. I feel with Bailey, but i don’t like the frightening version.
He didn’t follow PETA’s ideals though. He was ex-ASPCA so I’d personally assume that’s where his current mentality comes from.
Even when things are going bad, Rick still makes me laugh with both “FACE” then the alt text in this one. It took a moment to get the joke but when I did I laughed out loud. X3
And for those that can’t see the alt text: “How can you even reach your foot all the way to your mouth with those stubby legs”
Thank you!
I think there’s a triple meaning here. The “cone of shame” is also an upside-down lampshade, in both the literal sense, and in the tvtropes sense.
It’s actually easy: he has four legs.
Two of his legs end in hands!!!! Aaaaaah!
Well that isnt good
Now that I saw Bailey say that, I decided to takee her side… Even tho King just wanted her to see how humans “use” pets and wanted her attitude to think about it and live her life, but all result from it was “chewing her wounds”.
As someone already mentioned, his trauma as Joel reflected on Bailey, and somehow I feel like he does something as a former PETA member.
Ahh, the Dark Paladin’s Aura. Its influence seems quite strong on this one.
Well King… Look on the bright side now you don’t have to watch all the people party naked!
But that’s always the best part!
D:
umm…. depending on the person
Depending on which person? The one who watches, or the one who “forfeited the oppression dispensed by the consructs that human call attires”?
I’m gonna go with option “C”, the guy who got naked and pretended to be an elephant.
xD
Oh my… The cone of shame.
Can I have vainilla cone instead?
Here you go.
That’s 5 bucks please. :p
I’m out of bucks, wouldn’t you prefer does?
Lol you got me on that one.
awww… yeah kings in trouble. u gotta feel bad for bailyl too though.
Bailey is losing it lol
EEEEEENNTT!! wrong answer!
King that’s not “You are completely right, I’m sorry.” now is it?
It’s sad, so sad
It’s a sad, sad situation
And it’s getting more and more absurd
It’s sad, so sad
Why can’t we talk it over
Oh it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word
Welp. King’s in for it.
Unless that last statement went over Bailey’s head somehow…
*sigh* King, just admit you were wrong and APOLOGIZE! Just seeing you two fight, your making me very depressed.
Where on earth did she get a dog collar?
Again, does someone mind posting the alt text?
Alt text: “How can you even reach your foot all the way to your mouth with those stubby legs”
Ouch, but I think he got off light.
PS.
King is lucky Bailey didn’t have a muzzle to hand.
COOOONE OF SHAAAAAAAAAAAME
exactly what I was thinking XD
I’m surprised no one else said that.
“looks at the commets above”
One could say Bailey’s response was *in the bag.*
BA DA CHSSSH
King… she just want’s… (begins to sing):
“Three Little Words… that’s all I live for… is three little words….”
No fat chicks?
Well… it could have been worse. Considering what just happened to Bino… yeah. I blame the fact that King probably has minimal experience with showing sympathy.
king nows the time to take out helth insurence
And King looks oddly chibified in this strip, while Bailey’s eyes looked scarier the last time they turned red.
HAH! It can’t be chewing a wound if you were okay in the beginning, so either she admits it, or she has no reason to do that!
Cone of shame. Ouch.
~Neo
Bailey makes a very good point here. I don’t think King realized that just constantly reminding her of how much getting left behind kinda sucks…. sucks. That said, I agree with what he said last strip. Time for middle ground.
Bailey should realize that he keeps talking about it, because he cares about her, and he’s angry that this happened to her. She should have more patience with him.
King needs to realize that his constantly bringing it up is aggravating an already sensitive situation. He needs to think more about Bailey’s feelings here.
Methinks a bit of Joel is hampering things here. You know, most of life as human and all.
Also, Red Eyes Take Warning.
I thought it was “red sun at morning sailors take warning.”
Oh, King. You’re trying. You’re failing, but you’re trying.
Very trying.
King definitely got the better end of that deal. She punched Bino without a second thought. He just got a cone of shame.
Well she does love him… even though he oviously gets on her nerves XD
Regardless of my usual opinion of new style, King looks really adorable here! And how small King actually is! =D
Btw, isn’t it actual reality that Huskies can get red eyes when they go mad?
I think this is all set up by Pete. Pete causes baileys family to move away. King see’s how sad bailey is and strikes a deal with Pete that if he brings baileys family back to make her happy again, He will become Petes pawn in his little game. Only catch with the deal being that he must no longer date bailey.
I really hope I am wrong on this entire scenario, I really want king to find happiness. He will not find it going back to being a human.
King where’s the cone of shame
hey at least with the cone of shame he can make stuff and mix it together rly quick or just eat it right away.
Huh, a living, breathing mixing bowl. Never thought about that.
There is this…
http://gifs.gifbin.com/112012/1353522872_dog_wearing_cone_of_shame_eats_with_other_dogs.gif
King should it just apologize to her and everything could it been alright.
Be careful King, don’t keep sticking your foot in your mouth.
Really hope she cools it soon.
I’ve got a feeling that King will go berserk in the very near future…
THE CONE OF SHAME
I think Bino needs it more than King.
Agreed.
See…
I have no idea where this is going…
IF KING KEEPS THIS UP THEY MIGHT BREAK UP
that cone gets em every time
ha!!! he got a cone on his head heehee
…I think I didn’t get the joke… I was too distracted thinking on how adorable King looks from that perspective x3!
Sorry, King, you have failed your Diplomacy(Angry Girlfriend) skill check.
