That’s Tragedy!

Seems like the Gargoyle’s Quest was a failure.

    • GarrisonSkunk

Alt Text: Then somehow Zach’s shephard’s hook reaches over like a stage hook.

      • legendario13

        HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Thats exactly what I was thinking!

        Thanks for the alt text!

  2. Ryu

Oh wow what a save there lol!

  3. Kimo

not where i saw this going

  4. Arjay

-insert corny dancing and music here-
    also,
a light switch? apparently this temple has been recently renovated…

    • anon

yes, a lightswitch to turn on the apparently fire torch. *gasp* they must be everburning torches! loot them!

      • Starcat5

That or gas. Be very afraid if you flip the switch and they DON’T come on.

        Ka-BOOM! ;-p

        • Bruce Bergman

Oh, don’t worry about that – Real easy to rig the Wall Torch up to a light switch, just like a Gas Log. You can use the same sparker, flame sense pilot and everything. Only the Main Burner is the torch head, and it’s “Wick” is ceramic fabric, and it’ll take 5 seconds or so to light.

“Click!” {tic-tic-tic-} (pilot light catches) {psss-Whoomp!} (Torch lights.)

Blew my mind the first time I really saw the gas sconces at Aladdin’s Oasis, Disneyland – with a manual reset Mercury Safety on the burner head.

  5. xhunterko

Hello my darlin! Hellooo my honey! Helloo my ragtime gal! *gets hooked*

    • xhunterko

      Okay. Sorry. Bad pun.

    • Argent Stonecutter

Oh mighty warrior of great fighting stock, might I inquire to ask… eh, what’s up doc?

I’m going to kill the wabbit!

O mighty warrior, ’twill be quite a task
How will you do it, might I inquire to ask?

I will do it with my spear and magic hewmet.

Wait a second, Karishad really DOES have a spear and magic hewmet, I mean helmet…

      • Perfesser_Bear

Is it twue Elmer Fudd gwew up in Pwovidence, Whode Iswand?

        • Argent Stonecutter

According to Wikipedia, Elmer Fudd came before Bugs Bunny!

          • GarrisonSkunk

If you consider the character Egghead to be a prototype Elmer.

          • Argent Stonecutter

There were cartoons using the name “Elmer” before the first cartoon using the name “Bugs”.

          • Perfesser_Bear

Yes, he sure did — he sort of evolved from a geeky character named Egghead (oh wait, if you read it on Wikipedia, you already knew that).

Listening to:The Carl Stalling Project, the soundtrack of my life.

      • Xane

So I guess Karishad’s costume was designed entirely just for this strip to occur.

        • Redallover

He does have a Spear and Magic Helmet

      • ToaSoul

did anyone know that that episode of Loony Tunes is in a nuclear vault, so that if society is wiped out that is in there to show who ever finds it how amazing the human race truly is

        • Aeonera

‘Amazing’ doesn’t seem to be the right word in this context.

          • ToaSoul

okay but its true one day an alien could find this and say “OH MY GOD THIS IS AMAZING” in there native language.

    • Foxtrack

Exactly the first thing to pop into my head when I saw the dance panel.

    • Snowstreak

That is exactly what I imagined him singing

  6. IceKitsune

Ah Karishad hes just perfect in this strip XD

    • Ephesus

The ferrets should hire him as an actor in an old-fashioned ragtime musical or something.

  7. Exulen

    Bring out your dead?

    • xhunterko

      That got better?

      • Doitean

        I’m not dead yet!

        • Anubis

          *smacks over the head*

          Now you are.

          • ToaSoul

            you so nice Anubis
            *rolls eyes*

          • RedDwarfIV

            “That must be a king.”
            “How can you tell?”
“He ain’t got **** all over him.”

  8. Elwood Blutarsky

    Cornhole?

  9. Marco

Michigan J. Frog theme lol! Gonna watch Looney Tunes now :P

    • rtlstien

It’s also parodying “What’s Opera Doc?” a great episode from Looney Toons,

      • Salenstormwing

It’s both, and that makes it hilarious. Also, who knew ancient temples had light switches?

      • bug

You know, there are three things in hear that make this F#@%*($ hularius!!

One ,the lightswitch, two the line from “What’s opra doc?”& the
Michigan J Frog thimed dance at the end! XD

This has been braking it down by bug. ;)

      • Foldo

Ooh… That makes more sense now!

    • Keldor

Of course! That explains everything! Karishad is an escaped backup from the Loony Tunes cast!

    • Billy MT

      Hello, my baby!
      Hello, my honey!
      Hello, my ragtime gal~♪

  10. Gabe23

Did Karishad split the group ? ok people we need to remember, DONT split. Its a simple rule … but at least he found Zach …

    • Marco

How is there a light switch in an ancient site?

      • GarrisonSkunk

        Good question…possibly rule of funny

        • Verp

So I take it the ones in the atrium are on a motion detector switch.

          • ToaSoul

well now the mystery of the lights is solved who knew Pete went with the more modern style of temple.

          • Frank

Well…. it is openned by the click of a button….

          • ToaSoul

so doesnt mean that the entire temple is modern… well now we know that it is modern but i digress earlier it wasnt exactly clear on that point

          • Verp

I still suspect the dungeon is the byproduct of The Curse of the Mysterious Temple, so I think the dungeon might be the work of the dragon or kitsune. Of course if Pete is the one who decides what the inside of the temple should be like, then who knows what is up. Then there is still the question what role a follower of the dragon’s avatar has in all this.

    • Argent Stonecutter

Karishad’s unique talents make him the only one who’s safe alone.

      • Gabe23

Indeed … let´s just hope the other ones stay together

  11. Zaitsev

THE HELMET ALL MAKES SENSE NOW. RICK IS MASTER PLANNER.

  12. thefirstonethere

Oh rick, how you invoke the utmost of writing hilarities!

    • bug

Agreed, we should have a feast in his honer!! :D

  13. GarrisonSkunk

Karishad…..looking directly at me in last panel…..staring into your soul…..cannot lookaway….

  14. cesarinthewhitedragon

Zash so cute in the arms of that silly fox!

    • Xane

Karishad’s expression in panel 7… cutest fox ever!

  15. bene

I think the irony here is I like Wagner. Lpl

  16. Shuma Jindivi

Zack……what kind of cleric are you if you can’t cast light?

    • Koranos

One who doesn’t have clue about what he can actually do here?

      • GarrisonSkunk

Indeed…he only agreed to be the cleric so that he’d be protected by the others.

        • ToaSoul

yeah Sabrina is the only one right now who knows what abilities she has while Zach was left “alone in the dark” about what he can do.

  17. Zane

One of my all time favorite looney tunes referenced here, now we are just missing some Opera.

    • cheetahwolf

“thaaa thaa thaaaa thats all folks!!”

  18. Rick-O

Ah, the march of technology; time to upgrade my torches – I’m getting tired of refilling my lighter.

  19. john willow

i loved this strip!! the references were just ingenius

  20. fancore

    the glue is a reference to the game “don’t starve” ? ^^;

  21. WingedwolfGirl

    you cwazy, Karishad.

  22. Mega Creep

Oh… Look at Karishad’s innocent eye… That makes me be fond of him!!! Love ya~

  23. GarrisonSkunk

Poor Zack THUNKed face first into that hard floor. Teaches him to go running off. By the way….did Kari leave Daryl all alone fighting the gargoyles or did they finish them off first?

    • ToaSoul

possibly or they are right behind him either walking calmly towards them or running screaming for their lives.

    • Gabe23

I hope Zach learned the #1 lesson, the basic rule, NEVER … well you know the rest

  24. Lauren

Well what did you expect in a Housepets comic – a tragic ending?

  25. Blucan

    Nobody’s said this yet? Ha-Cha-Cha-Cha!

  26. humanplague

Zach is not amused, but I am very much so.

  27. The Maverick Man

Do do do do That’s Kirashad

    • Score

      Housepets / Death Note crossover?

      • The Maverick Man

        What do you mean?

  28. Argent Stonecutter

What do you expect in an opera, a happy ending?

  29. Draven

    That’s all, folks!

  30. GreighVonGottreich

    Heyo! >XD Nice one Karishad.

    • bug

Karishad is on a role latly. Hopefuly he keeps it up!! :D

      • Spork Master

        Me too!

But I’m afraid that if another opera is quoted, we won’t be able to expect a happy ending. o_o

        (Another reference.)

  31. Texascateh

Justttt to make sure Zach is a guy right?

    • Texascateh

I don’t know what makes me think he is a girl sometimes…

      • Xane

Being small and lavender probably doesn’t help.

      • Argent Stonecutter

        It’s the Bugs Bunny effect.

        • bhPixelFire

          Cross dressing?

          • ToaSoul

            oh dear
lets not go that far lets start with gender-confliction

      • GarrisonSkunk

If you thought Peanut had a shock when he discovered Grape was a girl, imagine how much the tightly wound Tiger would freak out finding out the same about Zach.

        • ToaSoul

but why would a girl be named Zachary?

  32. Dontlookmenaked

    This was wonderful.

  33. Quez

I picture Karishad saying Gasp instead of actually Gasp-ing.
    Kari is best pony evr.

    • Rick Griffin

(That’s actually why I didn’t put the little sound effect marks around it)

      • Argent Stonecutter

        What sound effect marks?

Does that mean that Daryl is *saying* “Eeeeeeek” a few strips back?

        • Wanderer

Yep. Unless you have *gasp* instead of “gasp”, the characters are actually saying what they’re saying.

  34. The Cape

    YaY, Bugs Bunny reference!

  35. D-Rock

annoy the beast away, a very seldom used strategy.

Also, this made me feel nostalgic for old cartoons.

  36. Frederick

Kill da wabbit, kill da wabbit, kill da waaabbiittt..!
… Oh what have I done? I killed da wabbit…

  37. legendario13

    Bravissimo!

    Housepets!
    Always the Coolest references!

  38. ZNickel

    Exit panel right.

  39. bhPixelFire

    DAH WABBIT KICKED DAH BUCKET

    DAH WABBIT KICKED DAH BUCKET

    • Argent Stonecutter

One of these days they’ll come up with a gadget that can outsmart a rabbit,

      • bhPixelFire

        NEVAR

        • GarrisonSkunk

Even the Coyote caught the Road Runner once.

          • Silly Zealot

Using non-acme roller skates, that is.

          • Wanderer

After being shrunk to the size of the bird’s big toe, yes…

            Okay, wise guys,
            -you always wanted
            me to catch him-

            Now what
            do I do?

            – Wile E. Coyote’s “sign language”, “Soup or Sonic”

          • bug

Ok just…WHEN WAS THAT?? he never caught the
Road Runner!! Please correct me if I’m wrong.>:(

          • Argent Stonecutter
          • bug

            alright you win wise-guy. -_-

    • Rick Griffin

I approve heartily of this post

  40. bhPixelFire

    BADA BAAPUHDAPDAP

  41. bhPixelFire

    CROAK CROAK CROAAAAK… AGOOONYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!

    *cough cough*

  42. Silly Zealot

Huh! Why the animals of this comic are all three toed? Real canines have four toes on their forelegs.

    • Argent Stonecutter

Same reason they’re four-fingered. Cartoon characters are always shy a digit.

      • GarrisonSkunk

The main reason is that it is much easier to animate four fingers rather than five.
The urban legend of it was Walt Disney having all his characters four fingered so his animators didn’t slip any one finger salutes into the movies, either accidently or otherwise.

        • Silly Zealot

So the rumors are true!! Housepets was intended to become an animated cartoon since the beginning all along!!! :D

      • Wanderer

Yep. The fewer digits, the easier to draw.

  43. SilentCobra

    SPEAR AND MAGIC HELMET!

  44. *white fang*

zack shall live on everyone ^_^

    • zeroslash

But I don’t want him to live on me.

  45. FerreTrip

    Karishad, you ham X3

  46. GameCobra

Then Keene, Sabrina and Daryl arrive and he’s just a normal fox X3

  47. Aexxys

Oh gosh. Karishad is officially my favorite character now.

    • volkoseba

But… he wasn’t before? You MONSTER!

      • ToaSoul

Calm yourself for calm is the answer plus i didn’t have Karishad as my favorite character until he locked Keene in the Ferret cage in the zoo.

        • volkoseba

          Blasphemy!

          • ToaSoul

your taking this WAY to seriously volko

        • Facade Kitsune

          shun the non-believer shunnnn, shhhhun

          • ToaSoul

oh god you take favoritism over Karishad way to seriously
hes awesome and all but everyone has a different favorite character and reasons why: you dont have to shun every one who doesn’t or didn’t have Karishad as their favorite character

  48. ToaSoul

i just realized that Kari is crying in panel 6 and how fast he calms up and goes back to normal behavior, which isn’t very normal.

  49. *WhiteFang*

    Its called awesome acting

  50. Keldor

I thought ferrets were the ones that fainted!

    • Argent Stonecutter

Zach also faints in “The Age Of Aquarium” and “The Problem With Volunteer Help”. I don’t recall any ferrets fainting.

      • Keldor

I meant more in terms of ferrets fainting in real life. It tends to happen when they get overexcited, something to do with blood sugar levels. I’ve never heard of rabbits fainting.

        • Argent Stonecutter

Rabbits are notorious for suffering from shock when frightened or startled.

          • ToaSoul

i should know my friends rabbit is startled every time he pulls in the driveway, when i went over to the cage he was rolled onto his side heart beating fast… well faster than normal

  51. gameangel147

This is by far one of my favorites strips, Karishad seems impervious to danger.

  52. Ranger One

Heh, so many amusing references in this one… although that last panel also had me wondering how long even the 4th wall will last against Karishad (nothings safe from that fox it seems).

  53. RedDwarfIV

Karishad has a highly mobile helmet.

    • Xane

At first I thought he was starting to gain toon reflexes, but then I realized his ears perked up in surprise and made the helmet pop up.

  54. Monk! i need a MONK!!!!

    Hilarious.

  55. Grip Moonwolf

    … *Facepaw*

  56. Argent Stonecutter

For Karishad, the fourth wall is just another place to hang a lampshade.

  57. Billy MT

Yannow, sans the guns and katanas… And the cancer altogether… Karishad is looking more and more like Deadpool XD

Just short of the whole “speaking with myself in those little white boxes” stuff XD

  58. Grip Moonwolf

Oh, Karishad, it’s impossible to be angry with you!

    • Gabe23

I tried once … didnt succeed.

Ok thats a lie, I didnt even tried, you just cant be mad at him

  59. GuyFace101

Why does this fox constantly remind me of Renard?

  60. Argent Stonecutter

Hmmm. The grue talks in the voice of David Bowie as the Goblin King from “Labyrinth”.

  61. overzen

I love this strip so much!

  62. lala-wa

    apparently cornhole is grue repellant.

  63. Facade Kitsune

stray thought in the wild, foxes eat wabbits

  64. DreamsFar

Ok, long time reader that’s NEVER commented before – but this post and hte last one finally forced my hand. The whole grue thing pushed me over the edge: AWESOME! You can’t believe how awesome I find these two strips (And the comic as a whole, and the long arcs in particular). Seriously – best two I’ve ever read. Just: wow. I salute you, Rick. Very well done indeed. Thank you. Also: the comments on this one really educated me on cool stuff and made me laugh, too. :^)

  65. digitale

Is it bad that I immediately had the loony toons theme playing in my head once Karishad started dancing?

  66. illeatyourself

Oh GOSH do I know that reference! And I love that he turned on a torch WITH A SWITCH!! XD

    • illeatyourself

And I miss the days when people would dance like that and do it well. And the hook gag? Haven’t seen it in so long I’ve started to miss it. XD
